This is a comprehensive review & comparison of Final Fantasy VI for the Super Famicom, Super Nintendo, PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, Android, iOS, and Steam. This includes the recently released Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster as well for PC and smart phones. We cover gameplay changes, bugs, localization, visuals, music, balance and content differences. This comparison should inform you of any and all significant differences between each different version of the game, enough so that you could decide which version you think you’d prefer. It also provides a common ground for discussion among which versions others may prefer. We have a lot to say about bugs due to the popular nature of FFVI meaning it’s been very heavily researched by fans.

  1. Update: March 28 version 1.05 of PR dropped. The patch notes are substantial, so it's worth giving a glimpse. At the very least, for what's relevant in the video, you can't swap to espers you don't have anymore. Also, outside the update, it's been brought up that the imperial salute animation is still used elsewhere in the game outside of the original flashback cutscenes. That's the only instance where it was changed.

    Anyway, patch notes: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1173820/view/3128319763052263625

  2. Anyone knows the differences between these "hacks"? Austin suggested ROSE, but it is not as popular as TED… and Relocalization….
1386 – Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition
    2247 – Relocalization Project
5037 – Revised Old Style Edition (ROSE)

  3. In graphic design featured here, I prefer android version. But I will stick to SNES version of Final Fantasy VI for cheat codes.

  4. I grew up with the GBA version so it has a special place in my heart

  5. To be honest, all remasters of this game looks like CRAP. SNES version is still the best in 2022

  6. The gba version music actually sounds really nice.

  7. I've played it so much that the only version that would be right for me is 3D.. if that ever happens. When it does happen it'll at least be better than an underwhelming DS version (like it was with FF4.)

  8. I beat FFVI at least 3 times myself plus watched a lot of it on SNES. And I beat it once mobile (apple not android). I never noticed anything wrong. Anything you call a glitch like vanish and doom was just a feature of the game to me. I never came across any real glitches that harm the game.

  9. The SNES is still the best version for me….the sprites look better the music is better and when I discovered the sketch bug on the island with the Integer's it was awesome…..I had a inventory full of the best weapons and gear after I came out of the glitch screen

  10. The next version, a native 4K resolution version or an Octopath style version, would have the bonus content reinstated.

  11. Having loved and played through the SNES version multiple times, the PS1 version was a disappointment to me. Who cares if Phoenix Down was spelled Fenix instead? The PS1 load times were terrible, and menu errors like Mog's Wind Song missing the W was an awful oversite. The 3D-rendered stuff was kinda stupid. If they had thrown in more scenes relevant to the story as the game progressed, then it would have been a nice addition. All you have is a fancy-looking 3D trailer, essentially, and then… nothing else.

  12. This game has been remastered but it's the only game that SE need to do a full 3D remake of then I will be happy. chrono trigger too

  13. Bruh I’ve been playing on max speed and I’m about half way through the playthrough at 14 hours and I had no idea that only increased enemy attack speed, I just thought the game was really hard

  14. Soundwise, I'll always choose the Super Nintendo version (man, SNES has an awesome sound chip made by SONY), FMV's aren't necessary with the top notch narrative the game has

  15. Imagine if all of Final Fantasy VI got the HD-2D treatment same way Live A Live got it….Imagine if Chrono Trigger got that treatment.

  16. I don't understand the point of these pixel remaster sprites. They're still just as pixelated as the originals, but now with a more generic color palette. What exactly was "remastered" about them?

Those PSP remakes of FFs 1 and 2 are still the gold standard for Final Fantasy sprite recreations, and all these years later, that's pretty sad.

  17. That is a shame about the alteration to the scene where Celes is being tortured.

  18. All of them except for the mobile version look terrible…these games were not meant to be played on modern displays and it shows, that raw pixelated look is nothing like what they were developed to look like, it's just a fetish for ppl with terrible taste.

  19. Why won't they port pixal masters too switch. Got ff6 on pc but it needs that console feel

  20. I wanted to play this game, after watching this video I no longer want to… thank you… I hope they block your channel and someone removes your internet

  21. Me with the steam deck, trying to decide if I want to play through all the ff’s on an emulated version or the newest steam remaster. I believe I was 8 when I first beat FF6 on SNES. What a time!

  22. I may have missed it.. can we change the pixel remastered ost back to the original? Or is that a mod?

  23. As someone who's finally gotten into the older FF games, these videos are great and makes the headache of picking a version so much easier. Thank you so much 😭
