I would have ugly cried so hard 😭
Man the whole western thing about men not being allowed to show love to each other is looking weirder and weirder to me the more I come into contact with things like this
So dumb, jesse's right.
Or very good
Played the game in Japanese because it's more often than not the better version (in my opinion), and Ioved that horrible game. Hearing Noctis mature and having him be able to say that when I genuinely don't think he would have when he was younger felt so good. I just got all in my feels again. I wish they did the latter half of that game justice.
Do they not understand being gay with the homies? It’s a very common practice.
As someone who understands both languages, I agree with you, Jesse. Even in Japan it’s rare to say things like that, so it should’ve been a big deal just as much in the American version.
I have to agree. This translation feels kinda like they're trying to do a "no homo".
I think we have enough real examples of toxic masculinity that there really isn't a need to affix it to everything we see. Yeah for people that simply cannot fathom context, this does help them hide from what he's saying. And if your goal is to deny them refuge then this is a problem for you. For me there's more than one way to say a thing and he sure as hell wasn't saying anything else, so it hit me just as hard. And I don't care if the manchildren feel unchallenged by it… making them mad at that moment wasn't of particular importance to me. This is a mildly annoying take.

This just reminds me of the worst translation in a FF Game ever. The opening of FFX in Japanese makes so much more sense than in English.
honestly the same sentiment comes across and honestly feels a bit more meaningful in the English version of that scene to me
ITS 2022 TELL YOUR BROS YOU LOVE THEM 😡💕
Jesse's so full of love he needs that extra bit of wholesomeness to survive xD
Yeah! I heard that there was a similar botched translation with the meaning or concept behind Ranni's ending in Elden Ring. It was supposed to be something about giving complete sovereignty to the mortals of the world and having no more Greater Will, Gods, or Demigods to rule them.
Manga and anime are notorious for this lmao. My (least) favorite version is with Erased. In "Boku dake ga Inai Machi" or "The Town Where Only I am Missing" and they just changed it to Erased, kinda lame in comparison
I play FFXIV in japanese. I get the best of both worlds though since everyone and their dog seems to play it in english. The subtitles are one to one the english dub script as well. Some of the sentences are just entirely different between the 2 languages for seemingly no reason. Sometimes it's understandable but other times makes no sense at all.
For example thancred makes it clear way earlier that he sees himself as minfillia's older brother and ryne's father when I listened to him in japanese. In english I'm pretty sure he never clearly states how he views his relationship with minfillia.
Sometimes I don't get why they do this. Did they want people to think thancred has the hots for her that badly?
TBH the problem is that many gamers are still pretty immature or a lil homophobic. It sucks but a lot of people are still living in the '90s.
The online final fantasy, one of the first quest has a translation error…
'starvaling child' they outdid themselves.
I’ve never even played this game but I’m also mad that this man wasn’t allowed to tell his friends that he loves them
