“Tengai Makyo 2: Manji Maru” is the second installment in turn-based RPG series which is extremely popular in Japan, and is known in the West under the name of “Far East of Eden”.
Developed by Red Company and published by Hudson Soft in 1992, this title contains a huge amount of content for the time it came out, and this was possible thanks to the use of CD format.
We’re talking about over 20000 game screens, 300 types of enemies and 50 bosses, a soundtrack consisting of more than 100 themes and cutscenes that, just for the intro, last more than 10 minutes.
The only technical flaw of this title is the huge difference between the care dedicated to create the animated sequences and the effort they put for the in-game graphics, which are quite basic even for that time.
Regardless of its quality and its popularity in the land of the Rising Sun, which earned it the adaptation for PS2, Gamecube and Nintendo DS, “Tengai Makyou 2” still remains an untranslated japanese RPG, which means it’s basically unplayable for those who don’t understand the original language.
In 2008, the game was included on the “Tengai Makyou Collection”, published exclusively for the japanese Playstation Portable (PSP), while in 2020 Konami decided to put it on PC Engine/Turbografx Mini Console’s library.
