#’01年にトライエースが開発、エニックスが発売したスターオーシャンシリーズの外伝的作品であり、エニックスから発売されたGB用タイトルとして最後のゲームタイトル且つ最後の8ビットゲームタイトルでもあった。
時代的にはSO2(PS/’98)の後日談で、シリーズで唯一他作品と同じメンバーが仲間になる作品となり、成長した各キャラたちと出会える。
BGMは桜庭氏が担当、桜庭氏特有の特徴的な曲調は異機種でも健在。アバシティの曲がマリオテニスGB(GB/’00年)のレストランの曲とほぼ一緒というお遊びもある。
