Race Highlights | 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
It all comes down to this green flag at the back. It is time to crown a champion. The title decider of 2025 is underway. Maxappen drops across. Lando Norris as they were into the first turn. Very tight between Fernando Alonzo and Shalair. Lando Norris is in second position and chasing your race leader. That is Max Stappen. Then it’s Lando Norris. That is Oscar Pastry who crucially maintained third position with that launch off the line on the harder compound of tire and they’ve all safely made it through the first few corners. There’s a look to the inside from Shalair who’s upper place. Alonto is upper place as well and George Russell has dropped two but the three contenders for the title are breaking the toe as we make our way down to the first really big opportunity for overtaking on this opening lap. And it’s side by side between the two McLarens. Lando Norris has the inside line. Oscar Pastri is closing in. Aston Martin versus Ferrari in the background and it’s Charlotte on the power first. Max Estappen leads. Yeah, Max has got the absolute the dream start. He’s broken that slipstream as Oscar continues to weave and Oscar’s going on the outside of Lando. Can he go the long way round? This would be audacious. That is absolutely unbelievable. Still fighting for this title. Oscar Pastri up to second. Wow. Wow. What a move on the hard tire to go around the outside in that turn. We’ve just seen the pass of the season surely. Now here’s George Russell making Fernando Alonzo check the mirrors or at least he was. Brake pedal might be going long but he’s able to take the pass on the Aston Martin. No contest into turn six and Russell is up to P5.Lair’s really close to the back of Norris. Here we go. Jumping on board to Shal. Should be too far back. It’s not such a big breaking zone into nine but he’s closing. It is very close with the Ferrari not part of this championship battle. And then rather than putting the pressure on Max Stapen like he would have been hoping to do. So it’s Lando Norris looking in his mirrors right now at the Ferrari of Sha Llair and Lando Norris into the pits for a hugely pressurized stop for every member of this McLaren pit crew. Yeah, Ferrari following in as well. So it will be a battle of the pit crews. It’s a superb stop. 2.1 seconds under pressure. So he should be covering off Russell. There goes Antonyelli and Russell is is still behind. To the inside of turn five on those hard tires. Lando Norris clears one. Those are the moves that he’s going to need in the next couple of minutes. And he’s in a great position and gets himself space on the inside. The Williams fighting his own race. Doesn’t put up any battle. Norris up to seventh position. That is two cars cleared nice and quickly. It might get a little bit more funky when he gets to Lawson who we know has got a penalty. But Stroll, I think it’ll be easy work here with DRS. It’s always funky racing Liam Lawson, isn’t it? He’s an aggressive driver. The DRS for both of the drivers here. Lando Norris in the papaya McLaren going past one, going past two. He needed efficient passes. He’s finding them. Track position for Lando Norris. And another exam question answered in his quest to be the Formula 1 world champion. Lawson will get DRS to potentially have a go back. He’ll hug that inside line. Will Lawson go back ahead? Lawson is going to risk it around the outside. There’s grip out there. Norris keeps it pinned and Lando Norris kept the place. Can Norris use the slipstream and get ahead? Cenod. Oh, nearly off the road there. Lando Norris decisive move to the inside. Cenoda thinks about the lunge, but there’s nothing he can do. And for all the talk of tactics, first chance for Lando Norris offered up. First chance taken and he’s back in P3, which he needs to become the champion. It’s a 5-second penalty for Yuki Cenoda for more than one change of direction. Does that mitigate things for Lando Norris, or did he leave the track and gain an advantage? The turn five incident involving Lando Norris and Yuki Cenoda. No further action for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Max Stapen trying to win his fifth world championship in a row tonight. 2.3 is what you need. They’re already the constructor champions of this year. Is he going to be the driver champion of 2025? 2.4 seconds back into the fast lane and this is the battle for the lead of the Grand Prix. Long stint for Oscar Pastri yet to stop. Max Stapen diving to the inside taking the lead on track. Oscar Pastry passed for the lead, ran the alternative strategy, was hoping for an incident. Everyone’s still running. All 20 cars haven’t finished the Grand Prix since Singapore. No incident came. And he manages to go and complete his first stop in 2.2 seconds. He’s going to need to be 1.5 seconds quicker than you ever lap. I’ll keep you posted. So the Red Bull strategy seems to be simply beat Oscar and hope that something happens to Lando in the last 14 laps and then Max will be world champion. There’s Hamilton wheelto-heel with Esther Van Oon and he gets by. He gets through and up to seventh place and he continues his charge through the field and crucially for those at the front he does so cleanly. And he’ll have a look at Fernando Alonzo next or will he aon roaring back. They’re still racing each other. It’s still oh in the balance and the arrow wash of the house in front meant a big correction for Lewis Hamilton. And it’s Max Vstappen who is making his way to victory for the eighth time in Formula 1. He came roaring back but the comeback of all comebacks will fall short. Max Vstappen wins the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but this will be a victory lap for Lando Norris. Oscar Pastri will come over the line next. But the moment has nearly arrived for Lando Norris, who has grown resilient in order to stand center stage in Formula 1. And after 24 rounds, Lando Norris is the Formula 1 world champion. Norris wins the title in 2025. To call yourself the champion, you have to still be standing by the end of the fight. After 24 rounds, it’s Lando Norris who takes his first world championship in 2025. It’s the promised land for Lando. Uh Lando, this is Zach from McLaren. Is this the world champion hotline? Thank you. Awesome. Thank you guys. Oh my god. You made a kid’s dream come true. Lando Norris is the new world champion and he’s lighting it up on the main straight. All of his hard work paying off with the title. Mom and dad have seen their boy win it all. The feelings around just unbelievable for Norris. This the culmination of a life’s work. 26 years old. His parents have put so much into him going racing as a boy. You’ve got to find your way into the right car. You’ve got to do the job when you’re there and enjoy these moments. There are no easily won titles in Formula 1. Team and now driver McLaren win their first title since 2008. I’ve been amazed at how cool he’s been. And honestly, in that race, when you’re wheelto-wheel with so many different drivers, so many different things can go wrong, but he remained cool. And in that wheelto-heel racing, that’s where he made the difference.

Actually I wish 2025 would be four-way battle in-between McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes-AMG, and Red Bull (except for Andrea Kimi Antonelli in driver's sector because he's still a rookie), but actually I'm very glad for this season. I have many "new friends" on Instagram and Threads this year because of Formula 1®, and I'm glad to see Formula 1® fans currently no longer just ordinary people only, but also many celebs! I LOVE crossover in-between Formula 1® and entertainment industry like this! See you next year, 2026! THAT'S A WRAP! 🏎️🏁
