FP1 Highlights | 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix

F1’s back in the entertainment capital of the world, racing under the lights of the Las Vegas strip, preparing for the first Grand Prix at the final triple header of the season. Three races plus a sprint and three drivers still in contention for motorsport’s most coveted crown. A few Vegas specific surface changes worth pointing out early doors. Lewis Hamilton was sporting a glittery silver helmet perfectly suited to the local. The seventime champ went drifting through turn one during his opening laps. Not to be outshawn, Ferrari teammate Shaolair has added some gold trim to his usual red lid. And it’s possible they would go faster stripes as the Monagas went quickest of all in first practice, clocking the top time at 1 minute 34802. Some new skins, too. Kicka with a checkered flag adorment for this weekend, signaling the final days of the famous team’s name as they start the transition over to becoming Audi F1 next year. The Racing Bulls have added a dash of purple to their palette, and the Williams team have gone for a second new livery in as many races. This time, the Grove Outfits cars have a black pace with their usual dark blue as highlights. Carlos Signs is running his FW47 low, the Spaniard, leaving a trail of sparks in his wake. Teammate Alex Alburn suffered a big lock up approaching turn five and later upset Isaac Hajar, who felt impeded. Like, what is doing? Yeah, massive infin. We will report it. The tie driver was second fastest, but his final tours were a little scrappy. A couple of late lockups marring an otherwise fairly decent session. It’s worth remembering that he clocked the fastest time ever recorded in an F1 car here 12 months ago, 369 kmh. Getting the tires up to temperature can be an issue here. Oliver Bman was one of the early victims of the lack of grip. The Hassman going into the runoff at turn seven twice. Gabriel Bortletto found the same spot tricky as did quite a few others. Kimmy Antonelli cutting the corner and Oscar Pastri also taking the shorter route. McLaren teammate and current drivers championship leader Lando Norris also went off pie on the seemingly slippery surface. He had a bigger scare later, jumping on the radio and declaring that he’d hit the wall, both front and rear tires exiting turn nine. Turn 12 also proved tricky for some. And Lando Norris bailing out of a lap there. Lewis Hamilton locking up his front left and taking the safe option. Breaking, turning, still a little bit of steering lock on. And that’s what initiated that left front lock for Hamilton. Alpine’s Pierre Gazdy steering a similar line. Just couldn’t commit to the turn. Lovely little pirouette. And off goes Pierre again. And Lance Stroll taking his Aston Martin for a brief excursion there too. Turn 14 was where Fernando Alonzo opted for the exit as did Liam Lawson. So a tricky FP1 finished like this. Nowair topped from Alburn followed by Yuki Senoda who finally bested teammate Max Steappen in a session. Then came signs Norris Hajar Pastry Russell and Antonelli. P1 for Hamilton and he was ahead of Gazzley, Lawson, Alonzo, Stroll, Bman, Okon, Hulenberg, Bortletto and Colpinto.

The first practice session of the weekend got underway around the streets of the Las Vegas Circuit. Catch up on all the action from the opening hour of round 22!

  1. i get its only practice but atleast give decent onboards how can you say albon is impeding and then not even show the incident?

  2. I thought Bottas got the fastest speed recorded in an F1 car, going 378kph in Baku 2016? 🤔

  3. Hamilton went from being the second fastest driver at Mercedes to the second fastest at Ferrari. Maybe a little less of a focus on fashion?

  4. It was a bit cringe hearing the commentators play down how empty the stands were. I went to the first ever Vegas GP and the stands were packed in FP1, but the prices are just unreasonable and the empty seats are reflecting that. First Vegas GP since the F1 Movie and clearly it didn't spark a whole lot of interest.

  5. So, the colors of Scuderia Ferrari are same as Charlie Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel and Blitzo Buckzo from Helluva Boss at the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, while Charles Leclerc went fastest in FP1.

  6. Mais quelle pleureuse cet Hadjar! L’autre voiture ne le gênait absolument pas. Le boss de Ferrari a raison: que les pilotes se taisent et pilotent!
