Qualifying Highlights | 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix

From the heart of Mexico City, this is Formula 1. Welcome back to round 20 of the World Championship. It’s now time for qualifying to set the grid for the Mexico City Grand Prix with the drivers title in the balance. Antonelli has made Q3 for the last four Grand Prix weekends in a row, trying to continue that run. That’s the minimum expected for a Mercedes driver. And he goes over the line into P11. Carlos SC who’s had good form in practice so far. The winner here last year goes into eighth. And now Antonelli is just crossing fingers cuz that’s not exceptional from him. There are plenty of drivers further back trying to improve. Bletto personal best driver currently in 15th. Gazi cannot jump out of the drop zone. Aon out there as well. Alban will get another chance having come through the pitch to try and improve. Stroll’s going to be gone. Reigning Formula 2 champion over the line to 14th. Alonzo now at risk. Hulenberg in the second Sela final meters of the racetrack. Looks a good lap. Is a good lap. P1 for the Salva driver. Aon can jump ahead of Antelli. He’s going quickly. He’s going very quickly. P3 for Estan Okon. Man, did he need that lap. He got it. Alonzo only needs a 10th as well. His first sector is not great, but he’s found a personal best in the middle. Hamilton up to second position. It’s still Hajar who’s top of the pile on board with the Williams driver. Can he find a lap time to eliminate Gabriel Bortletto? Alonzo finds a lap time to eliminate Gabriel Bortletto. It’s Albert in 17th trying to escape. Antonyelli is the driver at risk. All on this bogey final sector for Alban who’s got well across that apex curb at 12. Can he stop it at 13? Just about. Pulls it back for a late apex. Feather the throttle over the curbs and it’s all on this exit. It’s got to be clean out of the final corner. Elbert looks to his steering wheel. Does he make it? The answer is no. It’s Bortletto, Alburn, Gazzley, Stroll, and this man, Franco Colapinto, who are out in the first part of qualifying. Oscar Pastri on an outlap. Currently in the drop zone, P5 for Oliver Bman, Lewis Hamilton with the fastest middle sector of anyone so far. He’s the driver at risk at the moment. George Russell, Oscar Pastri, Fernando Alonso, Kimmy Anteneelli in the drop zone. Lawson on an outlap. Here’s Anteneelli as Hamilton goes P2. So Pastri is still on his outlap. He’s just behind Anteneelli, ready to wind it up. And he will hope that Kimmy keeps it pinned down to turn one for a beautiful slipstream. We’ll see George Russell, who’s in danger, try and scrabble his way through. Russell on pole for the Singapore Grand Prix P3 at the moment. The predicted knockout time is a 1170. Signs goes over the line. Remember, he takes a five place drop. This is it for Oscar Pastry. A Q2 exit here would open the door for Max Vstappen and Lando Norris on the left hand side of your screen. Yeah, let’s have a look then through turn seven. How much does he risk keeping the foot in through eight, nine over the curves? Small correction through turn nine. Bouncing over the apex of 10 as well. He’s not arms and elbows through that middle sector. Is neat and tidy. He’s half a tenth up on Yuki Cenod. There’s not a lot of buffer. Cenod has just gone 10th. Aon is into the drop zone in 11th. Over the line goes Fernando Alonzo. He goes to 13th. Pastry needs this to be a mighty final sector. It’s fine margins. Can he make his way through? Big save out of the final corner and Pastri gets to seventh place. Ringing the neck of it. He was only 700s of a second quicker than Yuki Cenoda. Cenoda misses out by 100th of a second. Okon missing out by 300ths of a second. Hulenberg, Alonso, and Lawson out as well. First time on the board will belong to Max Stappen. It’s a 1164 to beat. Norris is now up by a couple of tenths into the final sector. This is where he did his magic in Q2. Lando Norris hasn’t been on pole position since the Belgian Grand Prix. It’s a big moment now as he stands on the power, goes over the line and he’s ahead of his rival for the title. But but but the Ferraris are flying in the first part of the lap. Llair’s nearly 2/10 up on Norris through the first sector. Here’s Oscar Pastri and he’s third of the championship contenders. Norris for Stabin and Pastri. But what part does Ferrari have to play? Here’s the man who was on pole here last year. He will take a five place grid drop. Signs to the line. Signs goes into fourth. What about Sha Llair and Lewis Hamilton? Hamilton is neck andneck with Norris.lair is up on Norris. The Ferraris are well and truly in play. Hamilton has one pole position around this circuit. Lewis Hamilton to the front row ahead of Estappen ahead of Pastri. But what about Shalair? So often he comes alive in Q3. He goes over the line. He goes to pole position provisionally. What a lap from Shaolair. Russell’s close to the top three as well. Well, the Mercedes is coming alive. First of all, Antonyelli, George Russell. Such a good qualifier this year. Only one time has he ever been outside of the top 10. That was in Monaco here in Mexico. It’s Russell to go into P6. Pastry not miles away. If he can continue this deficit, he would improve to the front row. He’s hanging on to it, but it’s quick. It’s very quick for Oliver Bman, who improves past the championship leader. He goes up to P5. Pastry needs this to be an improvement. He comes over the line and he does improve to third position. Track is ramping up and ramping up. Norris’s first sector is huge. What can Vestappen do? Chasing a return to the front row. He’ll get it. He misses out on pole position, but he’s ahead of both of his championship rivals. Norris is up onlair in the first sector. And it’s a mighty middle part of the lap as well. Science goes ahead of Pastri. He’ll take a five place grid penalty. Lando Norris, fastest in the first sector, fastest in the second sector. He’s had to wait six Grand Prix before claiming pole position. It’s been a while for Lando Norris. He comes over the line and he’s beaten Shaolair’s time by 4/10 of a second. How about that? That’s mighty. That is a 4/10 buffer. They got to find Hamilton to the front row. And now Shaollair needs an electric final sector. Chasing career pole position 28. Shaolair can’t get there. He climbs back to the front row. It’s Lando Norris. Charlotte Lewis Hamilton. Max Stappen. Kimmy Antonelli is ahead of signs and Pastry. Can Russell inflict more pain on the championship leader? He does. P4 to go ahead of Max Vstappen. And Lando Norris has waited to hear these words. Lando Norris is on pole position with Vstappen in fifth and Pastry P8. That is, I would say, one of Lando Norris’s best ever laps at the end. The championship on the line to dig that out and have it so comfortably. He is 610 up on Oscar Pastri.

  1. There's no way piastri is that slow. A true F1 fan or anyone into or in Motorsports can tell you something doesnt look right.

Yes, its true oscar had bad few races recently and could have effected his mentality but aint no way that it will cause nearly 6tenth drop compared to norris. Specially after he has been driving well up until singapore.

The McLarens should be on the front row not just norris.

Even when lando was performing badly, he was within 2 tenths to piastri. If you compare the other top teams they were all withing a few tenths to each other.

Q3 LEC and HAM within a tenth, RUS and ANT within a tenth.

Q2 TSU was within 2 tenths to VER. Tsunoda should be far worse off mentally given how he had been steuggling whole season.

I refuse to believe Piastri is that bad in his headspace. Only explanation, it is a combination of multiple things.

Bad head space since Monza, combined with a Detuning of his car and his hands being tied behind the scenes. He's not the same piastri we saw at the start of the season since Monza. You can see it from his post Quali and Race interviews.

  2. Most Indian Ferrari fans couldn’t witness the beauty 😢 becoz quali was held from 2:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. IST

  3. I wonder how much money has Maclaren paid to Piastri to let Norris win the championship

  4. Que pinche perro asco McLaren protegiendo así al pinche Lando… Ojalá choque ALV

  5. Seriously what has gone on with Piastri? Before Azerbaijan He Never Cracked Under Pressure But Is Now Making So Many Mistakes, He's Made More Mistakes In 2025 Than His Rookie Season In 2023
