I didn't take it as Trishtan being an addict as much as a hypochondriac.
Rainbow Shell has to be turned in through the guild, as are the robes, and the Mackerel.
There is no X and Co. shop, and even if there were, would you help X over Chiepoo?
Most treasure hunting is random, at least with what items are buried, but you can treasure hunt on every map.
If you kill the elementals on the map, you limit how much treasure hunting you'll do.
Dig spot 1 in the Ruins of Collanbal was supposed to be around the bottom right enemy group of 3 enemies, and dig spot 2 was supposed to be around 2 enemies in the middle of the map, just before the bricks.
