I thought this is just a Music Video when I see it on X, but huh. Playable. It’s not a groundbreaking caravan, but it’s solid. The overall package, though, this one is fascinating. I LOVE IT!

It’s a Miku caravan shmup fangame where Miku sings a song about… shmups. I think the translation work needs a fellow shmup nerd 😛 The primary gimmick is yes, Miku is singing. It can be disabled if you think this is much more annoying than the Bizarre Jelly 5 vocals. Within the options there is also an Invincible mode, but who wants to toggle that on? The stage design is super aware with the lyrics. If you understand what Miku is singing, it becomes fascinatingly hilarious! That’s why I subbed it!

So, gameplay. You can only move and shoot. As far as caravan shmups go, it’s not complicated. No caravan blocks, no different shot types aside of the Wide Shot later, but it does offer decent depth with the multiplier and nicely arranged enemy arrangement. It’s tricky to get 100% shot down rate. thankfully the ship speed is good. There are no advanced tech like pointblanking until you get Wide Shot, but that’s okay.

It does reward you well for performance. It tallies your shot HIT, not just enemy shot down, then the chips collected, life stock and shield. No miss is a major contributor for getting high score. Good luck practicing!

It’s solid, well paced, the music is fun, catchy, not much to complaint about aside of it being on a simpler side for caravan shmups. Give it a go. You’ll have a good time.

You can play it for free on your browser here. Can’t play it at minimum without keyboard, of course. But surprisingly it does respond to controllers. I played this with a controller.

Fun fact. This is NOT the first caravan shmup to use Miku for vocals. The earliest I know was Bizarre Jelly 5. Let’s say it’s an otaku test, since Miku doesn’t show her face in this caravan shmup minigame and she only starts singing much later in the song. This minigame is within No More Heroes 2. Very on brand with Travis. That song is a vocal remix of Pure White Giant Glastonbury theme, though.

  1. Whoever made this seems to have a deep appreciation for the SHMUP/STG genre. I could easily see various inspirations for this short caravan SHMUP, particularly the dodonpachi DAI-OU-JOU style launch and the Daifukkatsu warning siren for the midboss (with lots of hexagons in the background!), as well as the Gradius style High Speed section complete with closing doors.

I do hope the dev continues to make more cool stuff like this, even if it isn't an expansion of this concept.
