Did you ever think about what would happen if you sold an Elder Scroll to the librarian, especially considering that you would need it again during the Dawnguard DLC quest? I decided to test it out. First, I sold the scroll to the orc who manages the library. Then, I embarked on the DLC quest, waiting until the point in the story when I would require it. After some time exploring caves, I finally reached the part where Harkon tasked me with finding two Elder Scrollsโone held by Valerica and the other by the librarian. After that, Serana spoke to me, shedding some light on the situation. As a result, I received a quest to repurchase the Elder Scroll from the orc to whom I had initially sold it. So, I headed straight to the College of Winterhold, where the librarian was waiting for me. I initiated a dialogue with him, and here’s what happened.

Could you not have stolen it back?
Thatโs why I sell it after all is said and done playthrough wise.
It just works.
doesnโt let me do it
You're goddamn lucky that Orc Likes youโค
Urag: Let me guess… Someone stole your Elder Scroll๐
If I found out the answer to the question "what do you do if you sell an elder scroll?" was just "just buy it back", I wouldn't think it was worth a video.
I did this the first time.
Can you pickpocket the scroll from him?
Bro, I almost have 1,000,000 coins. 4,000 is nothing ๐.
What happens if you kill him before buying it back?
"Cant make a profit", last I checked the library funds should be going to the college and then redistributed for budgets each year…
Someones been a naughty naughty little orc.
"I'll sell it to you for 4,000 coins!"
Well as the Archemage I have a nifty spell for when I'm broke. It costs 0 magicka and I can teleport and create anything I want with it too.
People finding it cheap, but it's not like an Elder Scrolls is useful to everyone
Classic bethesda writing.
"I dont know how you expect me to keep this place in order when i cant make a profit"
Really, you think anyone else is going to buy an elder scroll? It would be dangerous to even let it be known that you have an elder scroll.
I still don't know why you even need the Dragon Scroll during Dawnguard, you don't even use it
Where do you find the scroll im stuck lol
canonically worth 80% of a 2 bedroom house in whiterun
I'm the Arch-Mage, everything you are selling I own, thanks for holding it for me, I'll take it back now.
Bro I literally just sold the elder scrolls to the librarian and I have not gotten that far in the dawnguard. I better start saving up. ๐
I accidentally did this on my first play through and it saved me the trouble of getting it again in the dwarfern ruins and thinking back about it that was pretty dumb to think about then
If you're watching in '25: I sold a couple of books to him on a side quest, he offered an amount (500) and I could agree or keep the books. Then I realised I could offer the scroll too. I did it on a gag, but he IMMEDIATELY took the scroll and gave me 2k gold without me agreeing to anything. He basically took it from me as soon as I told him I had it, lol.
