Trees are pretty crucial to the world of Dark Souls 1. But are the in-game trees really up to par with their significance? Let’s find out.

  1. fwiw regarding trees growing through stone, there is some arguable precedent for it, with plants rooting into whatever small gaps and crevices they can find in the stone's surface. It's possible the young trees crept through much smaller holes in the rock and then grew large. Afaik plants can even crack open the stone they root in as the plant grows and it's roots swell inside, though to what extent I'm unsure, but magical stone trees probably would have a much easier time of doing exactly that.

  2. Wow. Props, bro. This video was waaay more interesting than I expected.
Edit: there IS a type of "walking" tree irl, so ya. Makes sense to me.

  3. Im so glad Any Austin has gotten bigger and is inspiring other creators, love this style of video.

  4. Wasn't expecting to hear the Professor Layton theme in a Dark Souls video, but hey i'm all for it!

  5. 1:20 its cool, but it gives way to the lore later on when you get to ash lake and see all the giant trees spanning up into the surface, you connect the 2 together and realize that tree in firelink is the tops of one of the world trees

  6. Being at 8am after a sleelpess night watching a video about Dark Souls trees was not what I had in mind, but Im not complaining

  7. As someone with Master's degree in forestry, the trees make sense. Maybe they're a bit exaggerated at times, like the big tree coming out of a cliff. Trees do grow on cliffs and rocks but their size is limited due to lack of proper nutrients (they do get some nutrients and minerals from the rocks, fungi etc). Though I cant comment much on giant trees as we don't have those giant redwood-esque trees in my country

And the dude at 11:31 is pruning trees to either increase the number of brancless logs (which are quite valuable) or most likely for esthetic reasons. I own forests and I also cut down some dead and overgrown branches from the bottom of the trees to make visibility better and it helps the vegetation underneath get more light. Overall the forests in DS1 look fairly well taken care of. If they weren't they'd be hell to navigate through

  8. i always assumed the tree in firelink shrine was the surface part of the tree in Ash Lake, like how the Erdtree in Elden Ring has a massive underground portion. between Ash Lake, Hunter's Dream, Fountainhead Palace, and the three ___trees in Elden Ring, it's clear Miyazaki loves big magical trees

  9. This was a very interesting video. I learned some cool facts about trees today. Thank you

My only question is: what song is used during 1:50 to 4:32?

  10. "Rivers in Morrowind are not rivers"
"How bad are toilets in Dishonored"
"Trees in Dark Souls dont make sense"
We live in the best timeline ever

  11. What is this trend of weirdos with a mic and green screen, talking about pointless obscure concepts in media?

  12. The bed of chaos reside at the bottom of the Izalith archtree. Thus I raise you: trees are demons!

  13. 10+ minute video examining the trees in a single video game by a channel I have never seen in my life? fuck yes

  14. Ive played over 1k hours of Dark Souls 1, 100% prepare to die edition, and beat NG+7. Never did I ONCE notice the squares in the leaves in Darkroot.
