Is the softlock really a softlock if there are skeletons? If you can get a boneward drop from them I am pretty sure if you don't fire Majula bonfire you'll get teleported there always. That should be an escape.
I read somewhere that Dark Souls 2 was originally supposed to have an "overworld", like Elden Ring has, which is backed by things like the weird transition between Earthen Peak and Iron Keep. I think that the map in the basement could be a remnant of this.
Fun fact: it's possible to trigger Sweet Shalquoir's greeting dialogue from outside the side of the building, making it seem like Majula has a talking corpse that simply THINKS it's a cat.
EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure the damage requirement for aggroing is different for different NPCs in Dark Souls 1. Laurentius, for example, isn't particularly tough but is particularly resistant to being provoked.
I'm not gonna lie, I was VERY disappointed when I first played this game. I even bought the collector's edition (I'm Brazilian, so believe me it's not easy for a third worlder to buy stuff like that because even the base game costs 1/4 of a minimum salary here). If you watched Matthewmatosis's critique you know exactly why i disliked DS2. That said, i did played it several times because i felt like i had to make my money's worth, but i ended up liking the game eventualy. Playing other RPGs (like Skyrim and Dragon Age) also helped me see the value in DS2, as it was still a very good game by comparison with most western slop. I still think that out of all of the Souls games this is definitely the most flawed one, but i learned to love it anyway.
I personally love Dark Souls 2, it's not my favourite souls but it's still great. In saying that, Majula is FAR AND AWAY the best hub. It's so relaxing and beautiful, it's awesome.
It's always nice to see other's perceive ds2 and it's absolute weirdness the same way I do. Like, just, yep, that thing right there sure is a one-off really specific thing that ds2 does, for some reason, because dark souls 2.
Everyone always talks about how "beautiful and calming" Majula is, but it was always more creepy to me than anything else. Even the music has that one low ominous note that cycles in every 2 minutes or so.
Bro is a newgen. The BEST area for pvp was Iron Keep Bridge. I remember always hosting pvp games. Red summon signs everywhere, and when I summoned them, the red players only fought each other as I summoned their next opponent. Bro doesn't know the OG Souls 2.

Dark Souls 2 has my favorite NPC invader out of the series, how could anyone forget about Maldron?

Dig the low key Joe Pera vibes

I don't like snoop dog anymore 😩 it's been coming for a while tbh, and featuring on that PSY song "gentlemen" did allot.
But yeah man my god, it's starting to look to me like snoop might have been like this for allot longer than anyone realises.
I miss vanilla ds2 before scholar. Man lightning at launch was so good

This is great! I've been playing this game for 10 years and didn't know half of this stuff. Can't wait to try it out. Bravo!
