Don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the name Aizel is a reference to one of melia’s guards in xenoblade 1 that died fighting a telethia with her.

Just to point out that Sword snowy area is not post game, it's where the City was before moving later in the game. 😀
Melia was one of my favorites to control in the original game. If you wanted her in the party, you almost HAD to play as her though because the ai for her didn't know how to use her abilities correctly.
It's a shame Dee wasn't able to beat the dragon superboss – the little touch of lore, or homage, you can find by doing so broke my heart all over again when I found it. Hopefully Dee can carve out some time on his own to do the hero Ascension Quests (truly breaking the combat system with extra talent art options etc.), farm the arts for the Soulbinder class (which becomes such a fun version of a blue mage), and fight the superbosses and challenges for the extra character moments and satisfying gameplay.
Either way – thank you for coming back to this truly special franchise, and letting us experience the joy of seeing you finish it 💜

"what else is there" well, EVERY colony has a questline about their particular struggles and EVERY hero has an ascension quest (like the "Side Stories" of the main party). While it wasn't relevant to the ending you've gone through, there is much more to those characters than you'd think.
Ofc it's more of a completionist thing, maybe in a month or two you might feel for a one-off, some of them are great little stories (Segiri, Gray, Zeon, Alexandria, Asheraasherasheraasherashera)

I wish he had done both ashera and ino’s accession quests, one is straight XC2 fanservice and the other makes some parts of the story a lot more clear
I know DeeBee is not as obsessed like me when it comes to Xenoblade lore but sometimes is so frustrating how many things go above his head…
