The purpose of this compilation is to showcase Xigbar’s character using reasonably high-quality footage. I also made this for fun because I wanted to and felt like it.
The cutscenes are presented in entry release order (with the 358/2 Days HD remastered cutscenes taking the place of the original game in that order)—while it can be interesting to look at the progression of his character over the course of in-canon time, for the purposes of this compilation, I prefer to look at how his character is presented and developed over the course of the series.
This compilation does not nearly contain every cutscene he is in. It does contain every cutscene where he speaks out loud, and many cutscenes where he doesn’t.
I omitted a handful of cutscenes where he doesn’t speak—for example, there are a couple of cutscenes where he is visible during a pan around the Organization XIII throne room, but for less than a second, without him emoting or reacting to anything. For the sake of brevity, I did not include those.
I also cut down many cutscenes to omit portions irrelevant to his character. Some cutscenes I left in their entirety, including portions where he doesn’t appear, because I felt that those portions provided context for understanding his character in the scene as a whole. Admittedly I kinda went with my gut on this. You may disagree with my choices. After all, the only way to really understand his character is to look at it in the context of the entire series.
I did not include any of his boss fights, which I feel are worth analyzing.
