Bad: all of it except power stance
Good: power stance
I had a lot of fun playing this game in it's time.
6:58 Adaptability is not the stat tied to your i-frames and healing speed. Agility, a secondary/derived attribute, is what's tied to that. An AGI of 99 gives you 12 i-frames on your roll, which is one more than rolls in Dark Souls 1. AGI is derived not only from ADP, but from Attunement as well. Because spell buffs are so strong, even melee-only builds are going to want to invest into ATN. Assuming you want a modest three spell slots, you can get 99 AGI with 16 ATN / 20 ADP which is a pretty small investment. Full casters could even ignore ADP entirely: 60 ATN / 6 ADP = 99 AGL, nine attunement slots. In short, you should figure out how much ATN you want first to calculate how much ADP is needed to make up the rest of the AGI score. Never just arbitrarily level ADP. You could argue that this is poorly explained, but that criticism applies to every Dark Souls game.
For me ds2 is the best game in the series mainly because of the visuals, ost and slow paced combat, mostly fair bossfights, game mechanics that actually work (armour and weapons durability) and no toxic swamps, pvp that isn't even comparable to other ds games even in ds4(ER) it sucks
It's not a perfect game though i dislike a lot of stuff like for example life gems that in my opinion are too op, boss runbacks, easy bossfights and more minor stuff
Dark souls 2, remastered.
TIL that you can dress up as a butterfly in DS2
4:29 part of the reson behind this point is that Dark Souls 2 is a dungeon crawler also the channel Domo3000 has made many videos about why these complaints don't make much sense
I love Lords of the Fallen (2023) because it feels like DS2. I get why it's considered the black sheep of Fromsoft games, but I just can't hate it.
DS 2 as a game is fine, but it’s a terrible Dark Souls sequel, you could tell that the original creator wasn’t involved, the (pun intended) soul was missing.
That said, they did some really cool stuff with pvp factions , and I absolutely loved hexes having their own dedicated spell class.
Overall, I didn't like the feeling of being slow and weighed down in DS2, whereas I love the mobility and speed that you have in Sekiro and Elden Ring.
Also, the boss fights made by FromSoftware have improved so much since then. I expect the DS2 bosses that are brought into Nightreign will have new attacks and more variations in their patterns.
How did you not mention the FUCKING WEAPON DEGREDATION holy shit its bad in this game.
“Feels like there was no cut content.”Isn’t Ds2 the game with arguable the most “cut content”?
I had an horrible time for my first playthrough of this game so I won't play it again and can't like it (but I love all other FromSoft games I've played). The worst part to me is all the random things you can miss just because you don't have enough consumables to unlock important parts of the game (the stones you put in the walls that most of the time do something completely useless but sometimes open a completely new part of the game. Or the consumable that stops petrification, that you have to use on a random guy in the middle of a level that doesn't block any path but actually is very important to unpetrify…) Never seen bullshit to this level in any game. If you want to enjoy the game the first time, and see most of what it has to offer, you can't do it without looking up most secrets online…
Worst things: it's existence
Best things: it actively prevents you from playing it by forcing you to fiddle with settings to get your mouse & keyboard or playstation controller to work properly.
im currently on my 1st playthrough of DS2 and what ennoys me the most is most of the maps are hell, bullshit, made to piss you off hard navigation or lots of enemies or just being cheap (open the door and 500 enemies pop out) when you get to the boss its the easiest boss ever,i only had problems with pursuer and smelter demon the other bosses i beated on my 1st or 2nd try
does anyone else level stamina first or am I the only person that invests my first levels into making the game less annoying not doing more damage or being able to take more
We need a DS2 SotFS remaster for series X and ps5 or a remake… well, I need it.
I NEEEEED IIIIT !!!!!
I actuallynreally like ds2. Apart from the Adaptability stat
simp
Dark Souls 3 when ?
Dark Souls 2 is the only game in the series that actually cared about Casters as a standalone build from a gameplay perspective, whereas games like DS3 and Elden Ring highly encouraged Casters to play as Spellblades instead.
Examples of this catering to Casters in DS2 are:
Attunement determined Cast Speed, not a random stat like Dexterity.
Catalysts (Seals/Staves) could be Infused.
Catalyst's R2 attack actually did semi-decent damage.
Hybrid Catalysts
Catalyst Shields and Weapons, both of which could be Buffed and/or Infused.
Caster Armors support a variety of effects beyond damage scaling.
No overreliance on stacking spell damage raising effects.
Duplicate Spells were useful AND easy to get.
Spell Merchants useful beyond selling spells.
Herbs/Spices/Waters
Iron King Crown
DS3 butchered Caster builds, and Elden Ring basically made a non-effort to improving Caster gameplay.
I honestly want FromSoft to make a Caster/Magic focused game so that Casters can actually get an overhaul on the dated Demon's Souls era gameplay and move beyond the "Missile Turret" style of play.
The good: "mild praise delivered neutrally"
The bad: 'HOLY SHIT GARBAGE DESIGN ARGH HATE HATE HATE"
Yeah you really nailed that delivery lmao
Hot take here: I personally liked the ADP stat.
The reason why is because it felt like having a good roll was earned rather than spamming it because it's an abusable exploit like in DS3.
Everything about Dark Souls 2 sucks.
The end
2000+ hours of og DS2 and Scholar. Most of it in PvP.
My biggest gripe with dark souls 2 is probably the soul memory system, the amount of times I’ve convinced a friend to play it and they’ve given up because we got to a point where we couldn’t summon each other is really annoying, I know it’s just a git gud thing for them but it’s sad to me that they’ll buy into the memes of “DS2 bad lmao” just because they don’t want to go through on their own
best souls 2
definetly the worst soul for me. hell, even the worst soulslike. im maybe halfway through it and i had fun like 20% of the time….
My favorite in the series. The build variety and fashionsouls is top
9:08 hit your foot. pay attention more
9:26 super Orenstein did too
Weapon and build variety is nice but its auxiliary, the core game needs to be good – and the world and levels variety are the best points of DS2 and ascetics/ng+ add to it too making it more replayable. As for the issues – yeah you could sum it up as bad movement and controls, gimped stamina and roll add to it, and the enemy AI is mostly pretty bad resulting in a bad/primitive combat, where enemies are an annoyance instead of fun encounters. And its very true that other Souls have even more 'ganks' and enemies but fighting them is more fun due to better movement and controls, even DS1 being a slower game never feels like you are struggling with controls so you focus on tactics instead of wrangling your character, DS2 only becomes good once you pump 20 levels into stamina and ADP each. (and Ive replayed DS2 like 10 times, done all the deathless/no bonfire challenges – its quirks are still as annoying as ever)
I'll never EVER understand people deffending DS 2's New Game+ for adding more enemies. Like "DS 2 sucks becaus it' has way too many enemies, but DS 2 NG+ is great because it adds even more enemies" (??). I know it adds a few more things, but new enemies is always pointed out as a positive and I will never get it.
I had been watching pewdiepie play Dark Souls 1 and had so much fun. One day, I was at a video game shop and saw dark souls 2 and instantly thought of the game pewdiepie was playing, i think i mixed it up at the time and thought i was buying the same game he was playing on those videos I had watched.
When i started to play it I slowly started to realize i was playing a different game, but i didn't even care at that point, I was just happy to play this cool game genre about dark fantasy and knights and monsters.
It ended up being my first souls game and i loved it, later on i tried dark souls 1 and kinda of didnt get it, it felt old and clunky with the dodges and running animation, but the thing that made me not want to play ut was the fact that I had no teleportation between locations.
I think your first souls game experience is more important than people think, and in my opinion, I was lucky to have ds2 be my first souls game experience
Absolutely wild that Horsefuck Valley made 0 appearances
Despite its problems ds2 is still my favorite of the soulsborne series
Beat ds2 and dlc 3 times! I just learned what adaptability does 😂
Ds2 is a good game. Ds2 sotfs is not fun
See it's quality of life that holds me back from visiting older titles because they need a.i. to update or even fix them rather than have a $60 remaster
When playing souls games i find myself stoping and taking the scenery in but in ds2 SotFS and especialy in the dlcs i cannot do that, the areas are soooo crowded with enemies to the point i ran past all of them, you cannot feel the acomplishment of "clearing" an area, in my opinion the original ds2 had much better enemy placement and was a decent game
The first 10 seconds of this video is hilariously off base
After having beaten Dark Souls 2 the most times out of any Souls game and beating the DLCs in their entirety i consider it the best of the Dark Souls trilogy despite its' flaws which are really big flaws. So here are my own three good and bad things in Dark Souls 2:
Good 1: The build variety is second to none and only slightly beaten out by Elden Ring to a degree.
Good 2: The world and area designs are the best of the trilogy and only have a few outlier areas that are bad.
Good 3: The Bonfire Asethetic is the single most powerful and useful item in the entire game and makes the DLC actually doable if you farm enough Asethics to farm the Giant Lord.
Bad 1: Adaptability while not as bad as people say is still an awful unnecessary stat.
Bad 2: Way too many bosses are just "dude in armor" despite some like Raine having dope designs and fights, it gets boring fighting them.
Bad 3: Shrine of Amana and Frigid Outskirts are so awfully designed and balanced and look so bland with shit boss fights that they could be removed and nothing of importance would be lost.
GOOD: The ideas
BAD: how the ideas where excuted
DS2 is a good game, but it is a good game surrounded by master pieces. Is my least favorite DS, and I would still recommend it. Great video.
Small correction, weight load is not tied to endurance in the other games.
5 things I love about ds2:
– Everything is buffable and infusable
– The weapons sounds
– Greatswords having horizontal light attacks
– Last stamina attack does less damage, which is logical and adds skillcap
– Offhand does half damage, balances dual wielding
Oki idk if its just me also but it may or may not be easier to level up in DS2. By the end of normal playthroughs I usually find myself at the lvl 120 range, and given that I’m not coming across that many souls when killing mobs, especially with the despawn mechanic, it means leveling up is pretty cheap. For example me being lvl 90 ish costs me alrdy 50k souls to level up, but I slightly remember me being lvl 200+ in DS2 and only needing 20k souls to level up.
