It’s FINALLY time to make our way to High Hrothgar and meet the Greybeards! It only took 19 episodes and a few dozen detours haha.

  1. Light armor can be effective for close range combat, however as you already have a lot of experience and perks in heavy armor I would use that instead. Trying to do everything will start to make you weak at everything. Trying to do EVERYTHING at a low level will make you fall behind the arms race. As you level up enemies will get stronger and stronger and they are generally specialized in one or two things so you will start to get out classed by random bandit Chiefs and vampires, not to mention boss fights

  2. Pelagius Septim III (aka Pelagius the Mad) was king of Solitude before he became emperor of the Third Empire. You weren't misremembering.

  3. Hello. On the Forsworn: they are a sort of political/terrorist group (for lack of a better term) of Reachmen inhabitants of the Eastern Reach (The Reach stretches from the very East of High Rock, the territory of the Bretons, and the North-Eastern Skyrim simply called The Reach (with Markarth as its capital). The Reachmen are a complex people: ethnically, they are their own group and they are still very close genetically to Bretons (in fact, all the Reachmen in the game are technically Bretons as a race). The two groups (Bretons and Reachmen) share similar genetics (basically human genetics for the most part, with some elven blood from when High Rock was under the dominion of the elves known as the Direnni, whose nobility kept human concubines). Both groups have strong affinity for magic but then they also have big cultural differences: Reachmen come from a more tribal, clan-like culture and they are, for the most part, worshippers of the Daedra (but also some of the divines, like Dibella and Kynareth, have place in their pantheon). Bretons on the other hand have a number of small kingdoms (all under the Empire's rule but semi-independent) organized in a complex feudal society that places a lot of weight on diplomacy, academia, knighthood, social class division, fine arts and commerce, so basically have a totally different society.

Reachmen have also some ties with Orcs due to cultural/geographical proximity. Their magic is considered quite mysterious and place a lot of importance in the role of their shamans, witches and usually they revere Hagravens in their society. Reachmen in High Rock and Skyrim have been at odds with possibly every other other groups: the Empire, the Breton kings and nobles, the Nords.

Forsworn are a particularly violent, extremist and savage offshoot of the Reachmen and they purposedly tie themselves to the most brutal aspects of Reachman culture.

Many Reachmen (including the guy that approached you in Markarth to investigate are actually, or the elderly owner of the alchemist shop in Markarth, for example) peacefully live in villages and cities of the Reach or High Rock, but they are often treated as class-B citizens and work and live in poor conditions.

As for the Ulfric/Markarth/Forsworn situation, it was a massively important and controversial event that sparked also the beginning of the civil war in Skyrim. I won't spoil anything else, but of you want, try to look for a book called "The Bear Of Markarth" to know more about it. 😊

  4. The model shown in the inventory defaults to the male version of a given armor piece, which is why the Forsworn headdress looks so different. In most cases the difference between the male and female pieces is just minor tweaks to accommodate their anatomy, but some sets are drastically different. The model shown in the game world if the item is dropped will also always be the male version.

  5. This isn't a spoiler, just a clarification, but the First Empire that Emblem VI refers to isn't one of the empires of Tamriel (such as the one Tiber Septim founded), but the Nordic Empire, which existed before any of the empires based out of Cyrodiil.

  6. Congrats on enchanting. Once you have a good supply of Soul Stones and spells to work with you can really enhance your and the followers gear.

  7. 47:25 – Yes, Kynareth is the Imperial name for Kyne. Goddess of thunder, lightning, rain and snow. Patron deity of Nordic hunters and warriors. Chief of the gods. Imagine a little bit of Thor and Freyja. Ancient Nord murals always depict her wearing a hawk cloak and headdress just as Freyja wears the falcon. Her spirit is in your Thu'um.

  8. And congrats on getting your first soul capture. You can enchant a weapon with Soul Capture which is easier to use than trying to hit something with the spell…for me at least.

  9. 11:25 lots on the farms around the city. Also the vendor directly outside the Mare stocks important veg. After saving her from unwanted attention her wares are free

  10. 14:00 Also, Skyrim is divided into districts called Holds. The city of Whiterun is the capitol of Whiterun Hold, Riften is the capitol of The Rift. There are 7 others including The Reach (Markarth). Holds have significance in that your “favour” with a particular Jarl is determined by good deeds done for citizens in their respective Holds. They also play a part in the civil war story arc.

  11. I would recommend to continue the Greybeards quest line with the next task, after which you will learn final word of Unrelenting Force, which gives the shout much more power.

  12. 15:43 both light and heavy have the same hard cap of 542 not including shield. So the main difference is carry weight (before getting the weightless perk in either tree), noise made, running speed, and of course aesthetics. Bottom line Light has the advantage of better sneak and carry weight early on, Heavy has a better rating early on, both are equal later with investment in their trees. If you prefer heavy but still like to sneak, get the Muffle spell, and/or take the armour off when you need to be stealthy.

  13. Depends on your character build. While you are correct in that Heavy Armor provides more protection, Heavy Armor does have a few drawbacks. Weight! You character has a limited carry capacity. If you character can carry 300, and you have a full suit of heavy armor weighing roughly 60, that leaves 240 for everything else you may want/need to carry. Plus your movements are slower and noisier in heavy army.

Perhaps the most popular character build is the "Sneak-Archer" Light armor, despite less "protection", is a must for a sneak-archer, because it is quiet, you can move quicker. A full set of Dragonscale Armor – including the shield, weighs only 26, and when upgraded provides more protection than most Heavy Armor, at a fraction of the weight.
For comparison, a full set of Dragonplate armor weighs 79.

Again, completely personal preference and style of play.

  14. How long does it take to “finish” Skyrim?

Well, @Kaminosystem is on her 19th/20th hour and almost, maybe, kind of getting close to being ready to start the main quest…sooooo, like 3-5 years.

And I’m here for every minute of it!

I wish I could play this game again for the first time and totally blind. Once you’ve mastered it, you fast track past so much without even thinking and you lose so much of the fun.

  15. I started the Heavy Armour route (Ebony for me & Daedric for Lydia)
but I evolved to Light Armour and now No Armour, just enchanted clothes + items.
Surely all Emperors are Kings too ?
"Pelagius III is generally remembered for his eccentricities of behavior and madness
that characterized his time as King of Solitude and later as Emperor of Tamriel."
