  1. Some other cool stuff that DS1 did that I didn’t mention:

-Adding more spell types and making them all viable

    -PVP covenants and arena

-Setting the standard for high quality DLCs

    -Removed finite healing

    -Adding lightning damage

-Adding a jump (OG had circle jump tho which was awful)

    -Resting at a bonfire

-Leveling and upgrading weapons at bonfire

    -Cool opening cutscene

-Built the foundation for an amazing trilogy

  2. The run of areas from depths to blighttown to sens fortress to anor londo might be the best thing in the entire series

EDIT: actually it is the bloodborne dlc but these areas are a close second

  3. I pleyed ds3 before ds1. The world design blew me away, the combat didn't feel too slow or clunky as I play unlocked and the game felt pretty familiar, even with the differences such as weapon upgrade system. However, the second half felt just as bad as you said, feels like another company or team made it

  4. I played Elden ring then sekiro then dsr than ds3 and I still loved dark souls remastered despite the jank

  5. I played Elden Ring and sekiro first and then bought DS1 for 9 bucks. I know it’s old, but the gameplay is just so slow too me and I really hate it. I know it’s because I’m used to more fast-paced games, but it makes DS1 not feel fun to me.

  6. So, I'm one of the people who started first with elden ring and then sort of worked their way backwards to the prior FromSoft titles (PC only). What I can tell is that while DS1 felt incredibly sluggish by comparison (could compare to trying to swim in Vaseline), I went ahead and didn't take the key as my starting item, therefore got to experience the interconnectivity of the first half.

I found it amazing to be honest, especially since Elden ring didn't really have much of it, or at least not on that level. That being said, after Anor Lando, I did feel the game kinda dipped. I didn't mind Blight town that much, but stuff like Tomb of the Giants was the worst on first play. I wouldn't say it's nearly as bad of a second half for me (probably cause the last stretch of elden ring also dropped in quality in my eyes, like the mountaintops and the reuse of bosses), but let's just say it's apparent the game was rushed out by the time they got to that half.

The combat (once used to the speed of my own character) I'd say was easier once used to Elden Ring, since you don't have minutes long combos at breakneck speed to keep track of.

Lastly, the one thing Elden ring didn't prepare me for were the runbacks. Boy oh boy am I glad the studio slowly moved away from some of these. SOME I repeat. Others once you had the shortcut were fine by me.

I do find that I replay this one the most (After Sekiro), mainly due to the fact that it's neither too long nor too short.

  7. Theres no real defense for lost izalith, I understand it was cut short and all. But post OaS it's really not as bad as people claim.

  8. hot take: bed of chaos is one of the best ds1 bosses for its innovativity (a better dragon god) and avoidance of the terrible game combat.

  9. I still remember as a new paying trying to go south first and screaming “why do the skeletons keep coming back!”

  10. the first half of Dark Souls kind of makes me feel that the idea of a game with no fast travel is underrated, because of the way this first half was done. It never really became much of a problem to go from any point A to any point B because of how masterfully connected everything was, and with no fast travel the sensation that you were actually adventuring and getting yourself into places was on a different level

  11. I started my first DS1 playthrough like 2 weeks ago and I really like it. Been playing it alongside other games so I'm slowly progressing through it. I've only played Elden Ring and a few other soulslikes but I love the genre.

It feels so good going through the giant cathedral and all of the castle areas but now that I'm closer to the end I'm not having as much fun lol I just beat that big ass firetree dude in the lava area and I wanted to tear my hair out. That fight just isn't fun at all.

I think its those insane run backs to fight these bosses. Like 3-5 minute run backs is so tedious for how janky some of the bosses can feel. The QoL is insane in Elden Ring and it's really cool to see how Fromsoft have made their games better.

Okay I commented before watching and alot of your negatives are things that I mentioned lmao

  12. Here's a very long review (yap) if anyone cares coming from someone who got into ds1 after elden ring. Haven't seen the video just figured I should share this since it was asked of in the first minute lol

All in all i didnt dislike the game, im just really not a fan and its not for me.

My 2 big criticisms are the world (as you get into late game) and the bosses

    Level Design (large scale):

The interconnectivity of the world is fucking great. Its fucking awesome, and its really cool to see. But thats it.

As you go through the game, that idea becomes less novel. It's not less impressive, just less impressionable(? [if yk what i mean]). That idea becomes less interesting and more annoying when the thought process changes from “holy shit Im back in firelink!” 4 times to “welp now its time for another 5 minute runback to a bonfire I’ve already lit because the game wants to promote this interconnectivity. Tldr: its really fucking cool, and its awesome but means a lot less as time goes on. Also, I said from the getgo, that's not something I really care about

Don't misinterpret this nitpick. The level design is fucking INSANELY GOOD. All of the areas were insanely well crafted. But that's more small-scale, and I'm talking about how it feels large-scale. How this interconnectivity was just a pain in the ass by the mid-late game. The first runthrough of areas was awesome but every subsequent time felt like a chore.

Bosses: disclaimer – i fought all bosses except taurus demon, priscilla, and gwyndolin.

This game has 1 good boss, artorias.

When I say good boss I mean artorias is the fucking goat and how I wish more bosses were.

It feels like EVERY single boss in ds1 was “heres a big fuck thing that does big fuck attacks” “you are a small thing that does attacks and whittles away your big fuck enemy as they do big fuck attacks. It was for that reason that none of the bosses were really engaging, and I didn’t like most of them.

Here's a short tier list (wall of text is big enough lol):
Good bosses – ones i enjoyed | Sif, four kings, sanctuary guardian, artorias
Okay bosses – ones i didnt mind but didnt particularly enjoy | asylum demon, belfry gargoyles, ornstein & smough, pinwheel, manus, gwyn
Bad bosses – not fun to fight | everyone else lmfao (look up a boss list, trust, im right)

Also, personally, I really don't like runbacks in soulsgames and in this game they were so prevalent it was way too much. I dont mind some sense of runbacks but it was just too much in ds1.

    As for some other categories:

Combat: regardless of speed, the combat feels really fucking smooth in ds1 esp compared to ds2. All in all really liked it.

I missed an entire opening cutscene of the game and for that reason I won't comment on lore lmfao.

I also only played the game once so I wont comment on build variety. I don't like that there's no respec system but i can kinda get why they did it.

  13. Funny how we went from jokes like: "Imagine if you were transported to the world of your favorite game, how cool would that be? Souls players: no, thanks", to "Dark Souls 1 feels cozy and homey".

  14. Elden Ring was my first souls game and after roughly 400 hours, I played DS3 then 1 then 2 (sotfs) and I really enjoyed DS1 (and 3)! The world design is really top notch and the thing I found the most frustrating was the restricted 4 directions dodges but I really enjoyed it a lot after the first hour when I figured out that going through the graveyard was not the best way to go to start the game 😀
I despised DS2 which I thought was extremely clumsy in so many ways that it was really not fun. Way too much knowledge stuff for me to enjoy the first playthrough and way too many punishing mechanics that are not interesting. Abnoxious levels with too many mobs but shit bosses, I could go on and on about how its design is bad in so many ways.

  15. I played Bloodborne then watched a DS1 playthrough on YouTube (regrettably), then played DS3 then played DS1 remastered then played Sekiro then ER.

I have DS1 and DS3 tied at 3rd or 4th fav in the series

  16. I more or less started with er and worked my way backwards, and yeah, id say that ds1 was my worst experience, though mine was probably uniquely bad, going all the way through tomb of the giants (worst level ever made BTW) then getting cockblocked by a big golden door only to realise I had to climb back out made me almost quit

  17. I've never even considered that you can get to ash lake before unlocking fast travel. how the fuck do you even climb out lmao

  18. My order was Bloodborne, DS3, then DS1. If you dont lock on, its pretty enjoyable. Love the first half; maybe better than any other section of the other games.

  19. As i played elden ring first going back to play ds1, was hell of an experience. At first i didn't like it so i dropped it but after a few months, i gave it a fair chance and i am glad i did because i loved it.

  20. I started with Elden Ring last year when the DLC came out and then later bought and played the Dark Souls Collection starting with DS1 Remastered. I went into all of them completely blind.

DS1 was fun, I liked it the whole way through (except blighttown). I missed the Marika statues because some of the runbacks to bosses sucked. Not being able to teleport until maybe halfway through the game kinda sucked too. Zweihander carried me the whole playthrough though.

  21. Wait what?! These tentacle thingies in Lost Izalith have a grab animation where they eat you??? 😂

  22. I first found my love for these games when I played DS2. After playing DS2 I felt a bit alienated trying DS1 and DS3, and DS1 in particular just didn't click. I only really "got" DS1 after I played DS3. DS2 and DS3 had much better combat and movement mechanics, as well as smoothing over a lot of the sore spots of DS1. Even still, I think DS1 is quaint and has some nice atmosphere.

  23. I started with Elden Ring then came back to play Dark Souls 1 Remastered! It did take a bit of an adjustment to get used to, but I love the atmosphere and how interconnected the early areas are. I can overlook a lot of its issues due to the age of the game and just knowing where they have gone since. Probably my favorite of the Dark Souls trilogy!

  24. The first time I played ds1 I had the master key, the second time I played it without the key and I was so confused with how much I didn't see

  25. i just love it how you cooked dark souls for a whole 60% of the video and then proceeded to say its probably your favorite game ever average dark souls mindset😂😂
