The original FF7 made me fall in love with video games as a teen. But this one? Honestly not. I miss days of the turn-based battles, less visual spam and no dull two-button-mashing, before FF15 (which made me branch off into Atlus JRPGs back then: Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner, early Persona games).
Played Remake to the end and while it definitely has its moments and can be charming, nostalgia was the only thing that kept me playing. Just can’t stand the clusterfuck of a battle-system as soon as there’s multiple enemies around the team. Tried the Rebirth demo and the battles are just terrible once again. Didn’t finish it, these games just aren’t for made for me anymore. I’m glad demos are a thing again.
you havent played this game all this time? aiyooo
FFVII was the first rpg (j or otherwise) that I ever played. And so I understand your reluctance Mort. But I've gotta say that both of these games only benefit from us already experiencing the original game. I mean, I just LOVE how they fleshed out the characters more, especially the Avalanche crew.
I feel the game tries to depoliticize the game in a way, turning your position towards shinra as a company into somewhat of a gray area. Where in the original it was pretty clear the energy company was evil
Looking forward to hearing your final thoughts on this one and Rebirth, they are super interesting titles in a lot of ways
I loved the remake… Not a perfect game but it was a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed hard mode and I did basically 100% that game.
SquEnix really padding the lily here with probably 3 100+ hour games from a single game that I completed in 60 hours as a kid.
I love how they gave you a code for the first entry. SQEX is very nice to work with.
Do you never play with controller? And is Crisis Core on your list as well?
It's such an amazing game and plays really well on my ROG Ally X. Can't wait for Rebirth to drop so I can continue this epic story!
I truly detest the combat system of this game. It really felt like the worst of both worlds to me. Would have preferred pure turn-based or pure action combat instead of this bastard lovechild of both
Shinra actually enhances the Reactor 1 explosion in the original game also. After the beginning when you're on the train and also back in 7th Heaven Jesse keeps wondering what she did wrong, but it was actually Shinra all along
I come from the same situation where the original ff7 is a dear memory and was weary with playing it. Picked this up a few days ago.
Is the combat more like FF16 than FF15? 15's combat was so clunky that I just couldn't get into it.
Had a lot of fun. Pre purchased, hope Morgan likes it.
Will be interesting to see if you become one of those insane "Soloing hard mode bosses with Tifa's perfect blocking with only 1 HP" type of of players. Have fun!
god i love this Channel so much
Can't wait to watch your full review. I'm thinking about buying it every sale but could never overcome my fear about me comparing it to the original, which is very special to me. Since you described the same struggle, I really want to hear how the experience will turn out for you.
I've been debating getting this but I've also been reading about the atrociousness of the technical state, namely stuttering since it's an Unreal engine game. Was that a problem for you?
Frankly what you said in the beginning is exactly how i feel. FF7 i played as a little kid and the memories and emotions from it are still very much with me to this day. I would not like to overwrite those or change them in any way. The new game might be great, but i simply value my memories of the original too much to play the new version. Ill leave that to the new generation that has never played the original first.
Aerith. Nice
This game was just not for me.
Comment for Al Gore Rhythm.
I just can't get into either of these games. I have tried both the remake and rebirth on Playstation and I find them incredibly boring…i also tend to just not like JRPGS so I do have that bias but there have been some JRPGS that I have enjoyed :/
