I just started playing today after 8 years of modding.
The only amendment I feel should be made is in regards to stealing. I'd say there's more than just gold that's safe to steal before joining the Thieves' Guild to access fences. Lockpicks and arrows are also safe, as they are both weightless (unless you're playing Survival Mode). I'd also say other things can be safe to steal on the condition that you're planning to use them relatively soon, like ingots and ores if you're working on leveling Smithing or Soul Gems if you're leveling Enchanting, but also restorative potions if you're running low or skill boosting potions if you're planning to make use of that skill soon (steal a Potion of Haggling, drink it, then sell off a bunch of stuff for extra money), certain foods (especially in Survival Mode), or, rarely, better equipment you don't have easy access to otherwise. Crafting materials and ingredients get used up, and the products aren't considered stolen, so you can grind Alchemy with stolen ingredients and then sell the potions you don't plan to use. And if it's equipment you're actively using, I don't think you should be worried about the additional weight, it would be the same even if it wasn't stolen. But if you do steal better equipment, you might want to join the Thieves' Guild pretty quickly. It won't remain "better" forever.
I played Skyrim for the first time in 2016, barely knowing any English. Still, had so much fun and the game is so good at guiding you through it that I finished without problems.
Years later and I still play Skyrim, now delving deeper into the roleplay aspects and I owe a lot of my improvement in English to this game.
Skyrim beginner tutorial in 2025 is crazy
Great tips right there, but there are a few things you may forgot though:
Take the road east directly out of Helgen to find a skill book on a bandit robbed card and another further east to the left off the road guarded by wolves. Once you've discovered Riverwood both locations would disappear.
If you go to Bleak Falls Barrow before talking to Farengar, Delphine will not place a otherwise unobtainable unique book on Farwngar's desk.
Directly left of Bleak Falls Barrow behind the corner behind the main door is a hidden strongbox with minor loot
Entering most caves at a low level will permanently lock the enemies and the loot within to your level.
I just started this game and these tips seem super helpful thanks
New subscriber! Thank you for doing this series! I just recently decided to do a playthrough on the PS5, and your work is giving me a good refresher and ideas on how to play through (yet again) and do things a little different.
I like to make my own custom classes (like a bard type) do you have suggestions for a mixed class type character, or plans to make a video on mixed classes?
I always go to dawnstar first after getting to whiterun since the trip is only like 50 gold
(mostly for the merchant chest by the mine, I don't abuse it by forcing a restock just go by it anytime I'm there, as many places have those chests like that but some might can it "cheating" though. it's more of a glitch since they put it to close to the surface of the ground in those places)
I first played this on ps3 in 2011 but I kept thinking “I was playing it wrong” and decision making was poor. But there’s no corr3ct or incorrect way to play this.
Why starting guide why not just get on and play
Like Todd Howard actually plays Skyrim 🤣 If he did, it would probably have less bugs…
Always keep one bottle of Honninbrew Mead with you in case you meet the three revelers 😉
i have been playing this game literally since 2011 and i even i didnt know some of these tipps….
my first time playing skyrim I killed one of the whiterun farmers because he made fun of me for looting cabbages
So Helgen was very cold?
Another piece of advice is to avoid mods on your first playthrough, excluding ones that fix bugs and glitches exclusively. Once you have a feel how the game functions, you can go into ither stuff. Also, do research on mods. A bad mod can brick your character or even force you to install the whole game.
Also, although this goes against what I just said, if on Anniversary Edition, get the Anniversary Content Picker mod. There is zero options otherwise to disable any of the included Creation Club mods. Without getting into technical details, the mod tricks a script/code that checks if Creation Club content is installed by having them present but only actually having the mods you have chosen to install installed. Be warned that things like the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch requires certain mods to be installed, unfortunately.
Just started the game yesterday and I’m a huge Bethesda fanboy. Go figure. Glad this video came out
just start another playthrough but in survival mode.
Rachel Ziegler is revolting my dude.
I personally sneak past the bear, then kill it.
