Love Meeko! I usually save that interaction until I've adopted children. If one of your kids sees you with Meeko, there's a chance he/she will ask if Meeko can be his/her pet whenever you're not roaming around with the dog. That way you can tell him to stay safe at home rather than risk getting him killed.
I love Meeko, from my understanding (mind you I heard this from big name YouTubers like ESO_DANNY), have said that a long time ago that Meeko was unkillable, and then got nerfed big time if I recall correctly. So I just take Meeko home to my character's family.
