It looked like he leaned in, good call
The pitch started outside so he thought it was going behind him but instead it curved to him and hit him.
It’s an offspeed pitch and he turns around blind and moves to where he thinks it’s not gonna be but it went into him. Should’ve had first base.
Umps gambling on game
He leaned into the pitch , if he backed up it would've missed.
Go to first base!!! Dumb call
I think that’s dumb as shit
This is 50/50 call either way may be correct
There was a player for the rays years ago I forget his name at this point but he basically made a career out of getting hbp lol. He must have lost all feeling in his thigh over the years…
Split second decision, from umpires view seems like a reasonable call, based on the letter of the rule.
Rizzo is known for this probably didn’t help the call
pitch wasn't behind him..he literally leaned into it..announcer is blind
Learn the rules. He doesn't have to get our of the way. He can't move into the pitch, which is what he did. Only question is if it was intentional, and the ump has to make a split second call on that. I do not have a problem with that. Rizzo is such a smart player that he probably did move to get hit.
Hit him in the batters box. Go to first. Does not matter that he leaned into it at the end. The ball was still in the batters box at the time of impact with the batter!
Folks, it's Anthony Rizzo.
He knows DARN WELL where that pitch is going, AND that it is going there very, very slow.
A lob pitch to his leg? That's a gimme-freebee for a guy like Rizzo. He just got CAUGHT, is all.
He's been doing that since his early Cubs days, and he got caught a couple of times over the years.
Lastly…I was a bit chubby when I was in little league (then I wasn't, now I'm old, well, things literally went full circle, but I digress…) and I would take those inside pitches off my flabby tummy all day, every day.
Couldn't hit for snot those years anyway, so sure, get on base anyway possible. I literally made the 'All-Star' team because I had some absurd on-base percentage (like .678 or something insane) and trust me, that wasn't from bat-swinging success. Later in the year, everybody knew I'd take the hit, so the pitchers would pitch away from me so much, they ended up walking me anyway. I didn't care, as I trotted down to first base.
Bro put his leg in the way 😂 either way they both look like dummies
I agree w the ump. Go Phillies 😉
Actually It Looks Like Rizzo Leaned Into The Pitch
I hate these new rules.
You have to try to get out of the way? What happened to taking one for the team? This is almost as bad as the automatic runner on second in extra innings. The pitch clock, only one batter timeout, terrible. Next, they won't be able to bunt or throw a 100mph fastball.
Looks like he got in the way .
He attempted to do something, he switched directions last milisecond. Kind of a ridiculous call. He should’ve gotten first base.
That’s a terrible call
How on earth was that pitch behind him?
