The US Media always paints American Military members as almost perfect. So if you (as an American) are ignorant about this fact, I can see why people would believe the soldiers to be innocent. There is a large portion of the American population that think being patriotic = always defending the military. All US mainstream politicians will never say a bad word about the military because of those military fans.
So media will always cater to those people too.
Secondly, if you pay attention to the US military, no matter what, the US military will almost never admit to the overseas US soldiers as doing anything wrong.
However, any American that knows these 2 tactics by the media and the US military, will easily be able to figure out that something is not as it seems. So as soon as I heard about this story, and found out the criminal was a military member, I knew there will be a really good chance that what the media is telling us Americans, is not quite true. And when I looked up the info, I was right.
That guy should have stayed in prison.
Bauer seems like either ignorant about politics (US military + media tactic), or he's one of those people that will think being "patriotic" = to defend the military.
