As an umpire myself I have blown calls—not of that magnitude or level (MLB) the right thing to do was exactly what Jim Joyce did .. own up to the mistake but DO NOT try to give "make up" calls for either team. That would just compound the mistake. Not every umpire is like Angel Hernandez—–Respect the GAME !!!!! Learn from your mistake and get your next calls—ALL of them right
We all know that Jim Joyce is a beloved and respected umpire. It’s a shame that a blown call(it happens) happened to him. I wish it happened to that dirtbag Angel Hernandez lol
Two incredible displays of manhood right here, by both Joyce and Galarraga. Shit happens. Mistakes happen. This is exactly how real men handle it. (Accountability and forgiveness are not exclusively male traits, obviously)
Pienso que Armando debe poner a jim joyce padrino de su proximo hijo , para que de una u otra forme parte de su familia y siempre este alli se puedan echar tragos y reirse con ese pasado, blanco para el como lanzador y oscuro para jim joyce
1:48 what is Miggy doing? its a routine grounder to 2nd base. obviously a blown call – but he made the call tougher by making it a toss to the running pitcher
I respect Jim Joyce a lot for having the guts to own up to his mistake. I bet he dreams of that call every once in a while. That's gotta be a sinking feeling for him every single time he thinks about it.
It was not a special moment and it will never be . What is right is right what is wrong is wrong period we don’t make that up is life . That was a Perfect game and it should be credited as is. Not as made up. No mercy to any cute narrative or strawberry shortcake made up story.
So many people after this were going on and on about how bad they feel for Jim and how much they respect him for taking accountability. What about Armando? He's the one that got screwed and now has to listen to everyone gush over how great Jim is. I swear by the way this all has gone down you'd think Jim was the victim. He got more sympathy than the kid that he screwed and wanted Armando to comfort him and make him feel better for screwing him over
Doesn't change the result, but being classy about it on both sides – that's how it should be. I know people who when they make a mistake, and they made a lot of them, just can't bring it in themselves to admit it and repair it. Even if it is really, really wrong. I hate that, it really stings.

Jim Joyce is a damn good umpire. Hat tip to him for not hiding from his mistake, he owned it and that's all you can do in that situation.
Errar es de Humanos. Pronto se le dará el Juego Perfecto a nuestro Armando Galarraga. Arriba Vzla

Hey Angel Hernandez….see this?
It's called, "maturity."
It's called, "owning YOUR mistake."
It's called, "The Human Condition."

now THAT is 2 real men. standing up and facing it head on
Didn't Jim Joyce save someone's life at a game once too?

No defense for that call, and no defense for MLB not immediately reversing it.
There are lots of perfect games that I do not remember. But I remember Gallaraga's that should have been.,
I think booing joyce is incredibly disrespectful, because he apologized and knew he made the wrong call and acknowledged it. And then he gets booed

I had never been so mad or as disappointed by a baseball game in my life. But if Armando Galarraga can forgive Jim Joyce….I can too.
I'm not happy about it tho.

angel hernandez would NEVER
It's been often said "it's only a game." This rather emotional moment truly placed the 'game' into a real and proper perspective. 😎

Why couldn’t this happen to Angel Hernandez!?
Class act Galarraga. Real tough thing for both parties. I get it Joyce is human but there is no way replays shouldn't have been going in since the 80s
