  1. Schwarber just hit 4 HRs with an inning left in the game to lead the NL in HRs and one off from Cal Raleigh's 50 HRs for the MLB lead. Ohtani's second in HRs and total WAR in the NL, leads the MLB in Runs Scored and Total Bases. Is Ohtani still the MVP favorite?

  2. Our senses are numb, but a player who hits 45 home runs and gives up one run in five innings is a different dimension.

  3. From the way he speaks, it's clear he views his current pitching as merely a phase in his rehabilitation process toward a full recovery as a pitcher.

Therefore, he doesn't get overly excited or disappointed by the results of a single outing. instead, he's clearly focused on completing each step of the process and moving forward one step at a time.

He approaches each start with specific goals and checkpoints he sets for himself. This time, his goals were to pitch five innings and consciously test whether his curveball and split-finger fastball could be effective against batters.

He stated that he cleared today's objectives.

For him, securing a win with the Dodgers isn't his direct, top priority. He views it as a byproduct that will eventually come if he clears his daily rehabilitation tasks.

This doesn't mean he isn't focused on winning; it shows his goals lie much higher.

His ultimate goal is to fully recover from his injury and second surgery, returning as a winning rotation pitcher for his team. This is his true final objective. It reflects his desire to control his emotions, not letting the daily wins and losses sway him, and to never lose sight of that higher goal.

For him, this isn't yet a full comeback as a pitcher; it's a phase within his rehabilitation period for pitching recovery, where he continues adjustments under the pressure of competitive situations. Of course, it's the quality check phase in the final stages of rehabilitation.

This is a way of life driven by high-goal supremacy, building long-term plans and advancing steadily.

Moreover, he believes this mindset is essential for turning dreams and goals into reality, and he acts accordingly.

That's why he can always remain calm and act rationally in any situation or any outcome, unaffected by emotion.
(Or rather, he actively tries to adjust himself to act that way.)

I've always thought Shohei isn't just a physically gifted athlete; he's also exceptionally intelligent.
Furthermore, he mastered methods for maintaining emotional control and keeping his mental state level-headed and calm during his formative years in Japan.

Using Major League games as part of his rehabilitation program is not a desecration of the majors.
For him, rehabilitation is only complete when he proves himself in the more brutal reality of actual games. Only then is his full recovery as a pitcher capable of winning in competition complete. Otherwise, he cannot win consistently as a pitcher in the majors going forward.

Shohei is deliberately imposing a harsh path on himself because he genuinely and strongly desires to return as a pitcher who can truly win in the majors.

  4. If Aaron Judge beat Ohtani for the MVP in 2022 simply because Judge's home runs exceeded Ohtani's–even though Ohtani had a better overall record for that season, including pitching. Therefore, if the total home runs were the deciding factor, then, in this 2025 season, Cal Raleigh should be the MVP over Judge. Fair is fair. To date, Raleigh has 50 HRs, Kyle Schwarber has 49, Ohtani has 45, and Judge has 41. The shootout continues to the end of September. However, Raleigh and Schwarber are in the NL along with Ohtani. Hence, Judge may still win the AL MVP. The real HR race is in the NL between Raleigh, Schwarber, and Ohtani. However, neither Raleigh nor Schwarber can pitch as Ohtani does. Hopefully, that will be the difference in the selection of the 2025 NL MVP award.

Ohtani received the AL MVP award in 2021 and 2023, and the NL MVP award in 2024. Judge broke that string for the 2022 season because of his 62 home runs. Aaron Judge hit .311 with 177 hits, 62 home runs, 131 RBIs, and 133 runs scored in 157 games in 2022. He won his first MVP award and his third Silver Slugger award. A bit of trivia: Aaron Judge's wife, Samantha Bracksieck, has Shohei Ohtani as her favorite player (who she says she loves). She married Aaron in 2021–a year before he won his first AL MVP award. He tolerates her not having him as her favorite player. LOL!

  5. The tears after the 5th inning… Dude must have been emotional after all he went through

  6. 二刀流から打者に専念すると打率とホームラン数が20%アップしました
    つまりピッチャーに専念したらどうなるか想像してください

  7. Until now, the best WAR ever by a full-time DH was Edgar Martinez’s 7.0.
Ohtani just blew that out of the water — 54 homers, 59 steals, a 50–50 season, with a 9.07 fWAR and 9.22 rWAR — while leading the league in almost every major hitting stat except batting average, just missing the Triple Crown.
It literally took a once-in-history kind of season like this for him to finally become the first DH-only MVP in MLB history.
