The Royals entered the final series of the season on the heels of an up-and-down road trip that saw them ultimately go 3-3. After a scoreless top of the 1st inning, the Royals offense went to work in historic fashion, setting a new franchise record by reaching base safely in their first 10 times up to the plate. Salvador Perez and Kyle Isbel each drove in two with RBI doubles and Edward Olivares belted a two-run home run. Jordan Lyles turned in 6.0 innings on the mound in the winning effort. In the 7th inning the franchise history books had a new chapter added when Bobby Witt Jr. blasted his 30th home run of the season, making him the first player in Royals history to record a 30-homer, 30-steal season. The huge lead helped the Royals coast to a comfortable victory over the Yankees.
