  1. If you want to praise someone you should praise the old man with white hair in the red shirt. When the ball was thrown and didn’t make the distance he picked up the ball and gave it to the boy in the red shirt probably thinking that he was friends with the boy in the black shirt and he would pass it on.
At the top of the stairs red shirt looks directly down like something was said then nods and walks down the stairs. It is obvious from where the red shirt boy is looking that the old man in the red shirt probably said “ hey that ball was for the boy in the black shirt not you” he walks down the stairs and although somewhat blocked by the seating the old man makes gestures like he is talking he hands over the ball then black shirts mum looks down where the old man is and say thank you to the man!
Hate to be a spoil sport but red shirt was told to give over the ball (hence the ooh I’m in trouble look on his face as he walks down the stairs the reluctantly hands over the ball to the crying boy)
The old man in the red I imagine is probably a ground official possibly. It’s only the announcers comments that make his act seem voluntary, I’m sure his dad did view this a praise his son for doing the right thing and call him I’m even cool with him getting the bat as a gift. (Simply for complying with the officials directions) but when they do the post interview with Ian (red shirt) and he states he sore the boy crying and thought he should do the right thing he is lying. This boy has learnt the lesson if you look like you have done good and are rewarded it’s ok to go on tv and crap on about how well you have been taught. Watch the video again and you will see the ball falls short and rolls down and away. Someone off screen collects it and places it in the boys hat. (Old man white hat)
Ian clearly stops and turns like he is being spoken too! He walks down the stairs and his eye contact clearly shows he is listening to the man directly in front of him he never looks on a diagonal to his left where the mum and son are situated. Kids will be kids and told to or not he gave the ball to the kid it was intended to go to.
The assumption by the announcers he is acting on his own principles is incorrect! Although it doesn’t really matter until the kid does the follow up “ I’m such a good boy bit” very shitty parenting allowing that/ and if the parent wasn’t aware the kid definitely was and should have come clean.
All 3 of them know he was directed to return the ball you can see it on the faces, watch the vid again and concentrate on the man on the bottom of the screen imagine he did say something and all the red shirts facial expressions make sense. I don’t think there was malice by red shirt, until he is trying to give himself praise for doing something false!

  2. At 0:19 you can see the staffer grabbed the kids attention probably telling him to give the ball back. Damn you know what, that old lady down below who threw the ball looked like she made eye contact with the kid who got the ball afterwards. Maybe she was saying it was for the other kid and to give it back to him. You can see she was kinda pointing to the other kid at 0:20 seconds. I’m only speculating. Although she did just dropped it in the hat 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. The employee in red suggested he gave it back. It kind of ruined the premise of the whole thing. However, he could have said no, but he didn’t even think twice to head down there. So I feel he was still kind-hearted to respond the way he did and didn’t talk back to the lady who he didn’t even know.

  4. Bravo… Well done young man, excellent character…could teach us adults a thing or two ✌️ lol…

  5. Dang dude this was 8 years ago that kid is really a man now he is prob 20 now

  6. Even though the employee in the red shirt obviously told him to give it to the younger boy, Ian is still a great kid for immediately handing it over. He recognised it was the right thing to do 👍🏼

  7. Red shirt kid didn't deserve the praise. First he blocked the Brewers kid from catching the ball from a Brewers player who specifically threw it to him. Then he only gave it back because he was threatened by the red shirt security guy who saw the whole thing. Not a ton a virtue that I'm seeing.

  8. Enough with the “red shirt guy told him to give it to the Brewers fan”.
Just because he was asked to do it, how many kids would actually give the baseball up? Some would, but most wouldn’t.

  9. That's what confident individuals do. A free thinker, a leader and a bad ass.

  10. employee may have said give it to the other kidm however, SOMEONE PUT IT DIRECTLY IN HIS HAT!

  11. Wow it’s like finding out Santa Claus isn’t real, I got to Grady, I watched it too many times, just like so many others I now realize he was being yelled at by that employee to give it back to the younger fan, yes yes of course it it is still nice that he went along with it but we all were moved by the initial thought that he saw the little boy crying and that’s what changed the emotion on his face, goddamn why couldn’t I have just watched it once and thought it was a nice thing…😔
