From what I saw, it was the right call. A genuine double play. Infield fly rule called, then they tagged the dude going into 2nd. Good call by the umps.
WHAT IS THIS ABOUT "fires to first"?!?! It's obviously a throw to 2nd, not 1st, and the runner, who had no tag-up obligation because of lack of catch, is obviously tagged out.

I wonder what possessed the runner to leave from first base? The problem I actually have however is that there was no reason for this Fielder to miss the ball. At all. If he intentionally did not catch the ball, it is improper call. And there's no reason to think it was anything but an intentional drop.
How do baseball players reach the major leagues, after playing baseball for most of their lives, and still not know what to do as a runner when an infield fly is called?
I suppose the answer is that it doesn't actually happen that often to an individual player. Even as an umpire, while I encounter infield fly situations in every game (for which the umpires exchange signals), I doubt I actually call an infield fly more than once every 10-15 games or so. So I guess some players may go years between actually being on base for a called infield fly.
