  1. This game 3 is what people thought the whole NLCS would be like. Phillies had a powerful team and they took the regular season series from the Reds (8 games to 4, if I recall correctly). Instead, the Reds dominated the NLCS.

  2. I mean what did the pitcher think would happen feeding two power hitters a meat ball pitch?

  3. Afternoon playoff baseball, Ahhhh. I’m a yankee fan, the Reds were about to move on and play my Yanks. I was 9 and it was the 1st WS I watched. Even at 9 I knew early they were just better than us.

  4. Rose, Bench, Perez, Morgan, Griffey, Foster, Concepcion, Geronimo – best starting 8 ever? You can at least argue it. Rose, Bench, Perez and Morgan are HOFers (saying Rose would be on baseball alone), Concepcion and Geronimo were multi-time Gold Glove winners, Griffey was solid and Foster was a power man for sure, with a cannon in Left.

  5. It's amazing how I take HD and multiple camera angles for granted today.

  6. Also love the lack of hot-dogging by Foster and Bench after hitting those homers. Total professionals, all business.

  7. Poor Ron Reed, probably still has bad dreams over giving up these two taters to Foster and Bench…

  8. Reds trailing 6-4 in the ninth inning but up 2-0 in the five-game series, I was sitting in the green seats in left field and what happened next was about the most amazing thing I've witnessed live. Vintage Big Red Machine. Watching those balls as they seemingly came right toward me was super exciting–we all knew they were "no-doubters." At the height of their game in the mid-70's, it was very typical to see the Reds find a way to win. They did, in fact, go on to win the game 7-6 and swept the Phillies. Arguably in the top five best teams in the history of baseball, and maybe the best.

  9. I had this white plastic radio with a clear dial. I'd listen to Reds games on it more than watch them on TV. Heck, my carpet was even red.

  10. I'm from the Philly area. Sorry to say I cheered for the Reds. I lived near Mike Schmidt. My buddy did renovations on his house.

  11. 1975 & 1976 Reds, best offensive line-up ever. 3 of the top 50 players in mlb history were on this team.

  12. While I enjoyed the homerun and was a fan of Johnny Bench as a 13 year old kid, what I enjoyed more in this video was what I saw at the 1:36 minute mark, Rose and Morgan so happy! Morgan!

  13. MLB has juiced up the ball, there's no denying that. The stats bear it out. This season, 2021, teams collectively are averaging 1.23 homers per game. That's the 4th highest rate in MLB history. All four of the highest HR rate seasons have come in the last five years. In the year 1976 the HR rate was 0.58 per game. You have to go back to 1948 for a rate that low. The 70's produced the lowest homer rates of any decade in modern times yet saw some of the greatest sluggers of all times. I shudder to think what Foster and Bench would do in 2021. Shohei who?

  14. 76 Reds were the greatest starting 8 in baseball history. They went on to destroy the Yankees in the series in a 4 game sweep like it was nothing.

  15. Foster should have been a much better player. At his best, he was arguably the best hitter in baseball. It just did not last long enough.

  16. First trip to Cincy was in '76 to watch Big Red Machine play the Padres. Was 10 at the time. Me and Dad! Fantastic!

  17. Yeah, that’s those Reds beating my Phillies. The Phillies were awesome team throughout the 70s, but the Reds were just too much for them.

  18. I was there! I was in six grade skipped school that day to see my Reds. The big red machine was the best team ever!
Had seats in the green level just above Johnny’s and George’s home runs. Great memories!

  19. Ron Reed just got inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame this past weekend(8/6/22) and he talked about this.
