Brought in to be the ace for the Seattle Mariners, Robbie Ray did not live up to the hype in 2022. Will he be able to bounce back in 2023?

  1. Robbie struggled, added a sinker to address it, taught George Kirby that 2-seam (which he then used to perfection,) had a stellar August, and then struggled again at the end of the season. He never should’ve been put in the position of being the closer in the playoffs; it was a bad managing decision by Scott Servais (who I think overall is a fantastic manager—shaddup to anyone saying he should be fired.) That decision asked Robbie to play out of position and it was a vote of no confidence in the rest of the bullpen. Eric Swanson would’ve been the right call as he excelled vs lefties and had the best chance to get Alvarez out.
Robbie just needs to not treat his 93-96 mph 4-seam as a more dangerous and scary pitch than it is—it’s not some Mariano cutter.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
