8月12日のDeNA戦（神宮）で劇的なサヨナラ弾を放った。1-1で迎えた9回無死一塁、打った瞬間に確信歩きを見せ、力強いガッツポーズ。打球は中堅越えへ消えていき、5号2ランとなった。

故郷の熊本が記録的な豪雨被害を受けていることに、「少しでも元気を届けられれば」と語った村上。この日は両親が球場に足を運び、「父さん母さんが来てくれていたので、打ててよかった」と笑顔を見せていた。

ニューヨーク・メッツの編成本部長、デビッド・スターンズ氏がわざわざ来日し、この試合を視察。その目の前でサヨナラ２ランホームランを放ったのは運命だろうか？

ヤクルトファンとしては勿論、行って欲しくない。今シーズンを見てお分かりの通り、元気のないヤクルトにとって、復帰してからの活躍。いるいないでは全く違う。しかし、本人の将来性を考えてみれば涙を呑んでメジャーの活躍を期待したい。

In response to the record-breaking rains hitting his hometown of Kumamoto, Murakami said, “I hope I can bring some cheer to the area.” His parents were in attendance that day, and he beamed, “I’m glad I was able to hit the ball because my parents were there.”

As a Yakult fan, I certainly don’t want him to go. As we’ve seen this season, the Yakult Swallows have been lackluster, and his performance since his return has been a major factor. Whether he’s there or not makes all the difference. However, considering his future potential, we’ll have to swallow our tears and hope for success in the majors.

Yakult is an excellent team that has produced many players who have gone on to the majors in the past. These include pitchers Masato Yoshii, Kazuhisa Ishii, Shingo Takatsu, Akinori Iwamura, Ryota Igarashi, and Norichika Aoki.

With such great players as my seniors, I want to cherish the feeling that I can do it too.

The Yakult team has allowed Murakami to try his hand at MLB through posting, and some in the US say that “Yomiuri Giants player Kazuma Okamoto, who has no history of injuries, is currently more highly rated.”
