Former Pirates pitcher AJ Burnett joined the show. AJ talked about his retirement life and how he is trying to get into golf, since he was mostly a fisherman during his playing days. He’s jealous of Neil Walker being good at everything, including golf. AJ described how spring training is the same and different from his playing days to now. The guys asked AJ about his feeling going into a season when he had a locked down spot versus one he had to prove himself. AJ said he misses ‘everything but the suitcase’ about the game and shared that he still keeps up with the game a good bit. AJ would love to compete again and wishes he could still do it in the majors. The guys asked AJ about how the game has changed with a lot of batters going for all power. AJ cannot wait to see Paul Skenes this year and wants to see him pitch in-person soon. AJ discussed the cerebral nature of Skenes and the adjustments he’s already making to his game. AJ said the way Skenes speaks makes him want to pitch again and can’t believe the maturity level he has at such a young age. The comparisons were made between AJ and Jared Jones based on their swagger on the mound and attacking nature, not necessarily their build. AJ said Pittsburgh still has a top spot in his heart.

  1. I love Burnett. But calling Burnett a Pirate legend is a bit of a stretch. Dude only played what…3 seasons here?
