People are over reacting here a little bit. It was a slick move, but he could have fielded that and thrown to the short stop faster than it took the ball to get to the short stop and than the short stop having to field it.

It was rather stale on 21st April 2023 vs. KC, Shohei performed his pitching part of his TWP resulting 7IP, 11SO incl. 6 consecutive, 0ER, 3rd win in the season!! He was a beast then too!! We all want to see his pitching next year….

For anyone confused, Shoeho Ohtani is the pitcher. He could grab the ball as it goes past him, but he lets it go, so the second baseman can get the out, throw it to first base, and get the batter out too. Many putches would grab the call and throw it to first, getting only one out.
