allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<br \/>\nWinter Snow STORM Car Camping<br \/>\n<br \/>\nwelcome back everybody to another camper with\u00a0<br \/>\nTony from Baby Camping we&#8217;re going to be camping\u00a0\u00a0 there at Mount Cook the highest point in New\u00a0<br \/>\nZealand where they train to climb Everest the weather&#8217;s coming in it&#8217;s going to get bad i think\u00a0<br \/>\nwe&#8217;re going to get a lot of rain and then tonight\u00a0\u00a0 maybe a lot of snow so we got to get there set\u00a0<br \/>\nup the biggest most expensive tent I&#8217;ve ever seen and hunker down bring you back on the road\u00a0<br \/>\nwe got another 40 km that&#8217;s 31 minutes to go then I don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going to happen\u00a0<br \/>\nbut we&#8217;re making progress we&#8217;re driving along the side of Lake Pukaki right now\u00a0<br \/>\nand it is beautiful and that&#8217;s Mount Cook in the distance you can see the bluish\u00a0<br \/>\nhue of the glacias not much snow to be honest there&#8217;s hardly anything over there\u00a0<br \/>\nuh that&#8217;s going to look very different tomorrow okay we&#8217;re almost here 3 kilometers to\u00a0<br \/>\ngo just 2 minutes you can see it in the distance there got to find my spot and then park up right\u00a0<br \/>\ngot my spot i&#8217;ve camped in this exact spot before a year ago exactly in fact to the one week ago\u00a0<br \/>\nuh a year ago um I&#8217;m going to be looking at that range up there mount Cook is just over here the\u00a0<br \/>\nglacias are here we&#8217;ll be looking at that by the morning that should be completely covered in deep\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow and we hopefully will have a foot deep of snow but I don&#8217;t know anything can happen here uh\u00a0<br \/>\nit could just rain all night and nothing happens at all right so what we got to do is get the\u00a0<br \/>\ntent out i&#8217;ve got a beast of a tent it&#8217;s called\u00a0\u00a0 the Hillerberg Atlas it&#8217;s really a shelter no\u00a0<br \/>\ninner uh you can buy an inner for it and the price for this tent with the vestibule that I&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\ngot is over three and a half thousand US dollars insane but this thing should be able to take any\u00a0<br \/>\nstorm this is a warm up first time I&#8217;ve ever set this tent up and we&#8217;re going to test it just to\u00a0<br \/>\nmake sure I&#8217;m used to it and everything because\u00a0\u00a0 the camp after this on the next video is going to\u00a0<br \/>\nbe some brutal weather and I also want to use this on the top of mountain on Mars uh just to see\u00a0<br \/>\nhow it goes there in a in a really brutal you know almost hurricane force winds so let&#8217;s get the\u00a0<br \/>\ntent out let&#8217;s get it set up let&#8217;s get camp set up\u00a0\u00a0 and let&#8217;s get hunkered down ready cuz it&#8217;s going\u00a0<br \/>\nto chuck down I think in about a couple of hours and I want to get it all set up before then so\u00a0<br \/>\nfirst of all we got to get the tent out and get cranking here it is the beast Atlas uh it even\u00a0<br \/>\ncomes in a backpack look at this thing so you can hike in with it so this tent is designed\u00a0<br \/>\nfor use in polar regions uh it was used for scientists asked for it to be uh asked Hillberg\u00a0<br \/>\nto make it for them so they had a shelter in the brutal Antarctic winds uh and this is what\u00a0<br \/>\nHillberg came up with so it&#8217;s quite complex as I say I&#8217;ve never set it up before because\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s so huge i didn&#8217;t really have anywhere to set it up this is the tent these are all\u00a0<br \/>\nthe poles and this is the vestibule whether or not we&#8217;ll use the vestibule on this trip\u00a0<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t know so first thing I got to do is\u00a0\u00a0 get all of the poles laid out uh ready to go\u00a0<br \/>\nand then we&#8217;re going to set up in this spot here okay so this is all the\u00a0<br \/>\npegs loads of pegs loads of poles and there&#8217;s a spare\u00a0<br \/>\npole fixing kit in there as well so they&#8217;re colorcoded white red and blue and then this small one is for the roof vent these poles are the biggest\u00a0<br \/>\npoles I&#8217;ve ever seen for a tent massive they some of them are 7 m long oh and in case you&#8217;re wondering where my\u00a0<br \/>\ndog Bernie is he&#8217;s not allowed here because this is a national park we&#8217;re in New Zealand\u00a0<br \/>\nmount Cook National Park no dogs allowed okay this is the roof vent which which is also massive so yeah this is the roof cover I should say it doesn&#8217;t have an inner this tent\u00a0<br \/>\nor it doesn&#8217;t come with one you can buy one but it&#8217;s crazy expensive as well i\u00a0<br \/>\nthink the inner all by itself is 1,500 US and I just didn&#8217;t need an inner okay so this is the waterproof\u00a0<br \/>\nvent that goes on top that allows it all to breathe inside so that&#8217;s going to be set up last now I&#8217;m lucky it&#8217;s not windy\u00a0<br \/>\notherwise I would have to peg this out so this has two doors both identical and like all Hillberg tents\u00a0<br \/>\nthe guidelines are already attached [Applause] and now I&#8217;ve got this inside out so obviously this is a group\u00a0<br \/>\nshelter meant for like eight\u00a0\u00a0 people usually there&#8217;d be more than\u00a0<br \/>\njust one person trying to do this so there&#8217;s a door here and a door\u00a0<br \/>\nat the other end so I can turn it around once I&#8217;ve got the poles in okay\u00a0<br \/>\nso I think the first poles that go in are are white yeah okay so\u00a0<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve got to put the white poles in first so I think this is a lot easier if you peg\u00a0<br \/>\nit down first but I don&#8217;t know where I want it yet this thing is just massive okay that&#8217;s one pole in now I&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\ngot to put the other white one in so they&#8217;re colorcoded on the bottom of it\u00a0<br \/>\nhere we go so the other one goes in here [Music] so that bird is a bellb bird [Music] well I&#8217;m glad I&#8217;m not having to do this in a storm okay all right great success starting to take shape so I want the door to\u00a0<br \/>\nfa one door to face that way [Applause] okay now I don&#8217;t know what to do i\u00a0<br \/>\nthink it&#8217;s the red red poles that go in next or is it the blue no I think it&#8217;s the blue the\u00a0<br \/>\nbig blue pole goes in next okay now I might have got this wrong and\u00a0<br \/>\nit might be the red that goes in next okay so blue goes in last right so let&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nput the red in before I clip the blue down this is crazy it doesn&#8217;t feel like I should be\u00a0<br \/>\nbending this but this is what it says to do okay so once the red&#8217;s in you start clipping it in and then you do the same for the other red pole okay then the second red pole\u00a0<br \/>\ngoes in actually this isn&#8217;t so bad as I say the first time you set one of\u00a0<br \/>\nthese sorts of tents up is always going to be the hardest okay you wrap that\u00a0<br \/>\nround and stuck it in the other end okay that just leaves this one big blue pole\u00a0\u00a0 so I need to push this through enough that\u00a0<br \/>\nI can get it into these chalks at the bottom here okay and then the same on the other side tighten that up i think if you were a bit on the short\u00a0<br \/>\nside like you know Luke from Outdoor Gear Review I think you&#8217;re going to\u00a0<br \/>\nstruggle putting this together also no actually maybe not it Look that was\u00a0<br \/>\nnot bad considering this thing is built for the Antarctic for exploration and is designed\u00a0<br \/>\nto take absolutely anything you put at it i got to say pretty incredible right I need\u00a0<br \/>\nto decide whether to put the vestibule on if we&#8217;re going to have heavy rain well let me\u00a0<br \/>\nshow you inside first because I haven&#8217;t seen I\u00a0\u00a0 want to see what this is like and apparently it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ngoing to be quite amazing in there oh actually I almost forgot i&#8217;ve got to put the roof cover\u00a0<br \/>\non the roof vent because it could start raining this is the only thing that&#8217;s going to stop water\u00a0<br \/>\ngetting in those top vents the the thing with the guys I I do like the fact they attach the guys\u00a0<br \/>\nbut I wish they would tie them up roll them up because Hillerberg guidelines are so massive\u00a0<br \/>\nand they get all tangled they&#8217;re a bit of a nightmare there we go okay so I think there&#8217;s some clips yeah okay so this\u00a0<br \/>\ngoes over the top like this so this must clip onto here see this is where Luke would struggle poor\u00a0<br \/>\nLuke uh this must clip on here then same on the back end got to you got to kind of throw\u00a0<br \/>\nthis over the top and then link it up at the back this bit is the trickiest bit okay I think we got it doesn&#8217;t seem to be anywhere to clip this\u00a0<br \/>\nonto right I got to read the instructions again right I got that completely wrong\u00a0<br \/>\nway round the pole is meant to go that way i should have just read the\u00a0<br \/>\ninstructions all right let&#8217;s try that again i just assumed the Hillberg\u00a0<br \/>\nlogo would go on the front but whatever yeah that looks better already all right so you tighten these and then when I tighten the other\u00a0<br \/>\nend you should see this all seal up all right that&#8217;s better okay let&#8217;s go in have a look around this thing is massive okay so\u00a0<br \/>\nlet&#8217;s see what we&#8217;re dealing with in here holy moly wow this thing is great this\u00a0<br \/>\nis like being in the Waw Wona so I can just stand so in the middle\u00a0<br \/>\nI can stand up no problem there&#8217;s a hook in here i&#8217;ve got vents snow vents and everything\u00a0<br \/>\nup the top i&#8217;ve also got these cool ducts down here just here to let heating in uh and I do\u00a0<br \/>\nhave a heater that I want to duct into here unfortunately it&#8217;s sort of all on the wrong\u00a0<br \/>\nside so I&#8217;ll have to move the truck around a\u00a0\u00a0 bit to do this but it&#8217;s awesome i&#8217;ve got to\u00a0<br \/>\npeg it out to make it all tor there are so many hooks in here for the inner if you wanted\u00a0<br \/>\none but to be honest you&#8217;d only need the inner if you&#8217;re somewhere where there&#8217;s going to be\u00a0<br \/>\ninsects flies mosquitoes that sort of thing so the vestibule comes right out to here\u00a0<br \/>\nuh so I think I might do it i might put the vestibule up now as well so I&#8217;ve got\u00a0<br \/>\nto read the instructions on the vestibule\u00a0\u00a0 and I&#8217;ll bring you back okay not so not so\u00a0<br \/>\ndifficult you take the door off completely cuz you reuse this door for the vestibule\u00a0<br \/>\nthen you zip the vestibule on in its place so you find the zipper here we go attach the zip make sure I get this\u00a0<br \/>\nthe right way around first actually I don&#8217;t think I have here we go okay that&#8217;s uh So which end am I meant\u00a0<br \/>\nto attach this to i guess this goes here this is easier said than done uh now I did look at the instructions i\u00a0<br \/>\nmean obviously that&#8217;s the outside of it and it obviously goes like this but I&#8217;ve got\u00a0\u00a0 two zips i&#8217;ve got one at each\u00a0<br \/>\nend so which one am I meant to attach very confusing ah here we go okay gosh\u00a0<br \/>\nthis is so confusing it must go like that there we go so I think you fully attach this Right then you insert a pole i&#8217;m glad I&#8217;m not doing this in a storm but\u00a0<br \/>\nnow that I have done it once it&#8217;ll be so much easier the next time but in a storm this\u00a0<br \/>\nis going to be tricky to set up very very tricky okay so this has got\u00a0<br \/>\nto go in a sleeve somewhere uh there we go okay and then you clip it on i\u00a0<br \/>\nthink this will be worth it just to have the vestibial space so\u00a0<br \/>\nif it does snow heavily in the night it won&#8217;t be coming\u00a0<br \/>\ndirectly in in the morning and this should be able to take the weight okay now this feels\u00a0<br \/>\nvery tight am I all the way in i think so i don&#8217;t want to\u00a0<br \/>\ndamage it h that feels way too tight okay just move these all along a little bit\u00a0<br \/>\ngive myself a bit fabric to play with that was it okay there we go now the only downside is you definitely do have to peg this out\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s not going to stay out by itself there we go and then you attach the zip the door easy once you know how first time you do this it&#8217;s always going to be tricky all tents\u00a0<br \/>\nare tricky the first time you do it okay that&#8217;s it and then I&#8217;ll show you what\u00a0<br \/>\nit looks like so when it&#8217;s fully pulled out it&#8217;s going to look like that a tunnel at the front pretty cool huh so you don&#8217;t actually have\u00a0<br \/>\nto guy it out you do you can just peg it all out so I&#8217;m going to start pegging it all\u00a0<br \/>\nout um now this is very hard ground i don&#8217;t know if their pegs are going to\u00a0<br \/>\nbe any good for this ground but we&#8217;ll see so we&#8217;ll give their pegs a go if\u00a0<br \/>\nthey don&#8217;t work then I&#8217;ve got massive pegs in here cuz sometimes size does\u00a0<br \/>\nmatter she said so it comes with 20 pegs and they&#8217;re good pegs i think they&#8217;re the same as red label\u00a0<br \/>\ntents pretty hefty pegs let&#8217;s see how they do let&#8217;s see if they can penetrate this ground\u00a0<br \/>\notherwise I&#8217;m going to have to use my pegs we could be here a while nope well they kind of do let&#8217;s try this\u00a0<br \/>\none i don&#8217;t think they really are designed for this no not really okay I&#8217;m going to use my pegs i thought these might not work it&#8217;s not\u00a0<br \/>\ntheir fault this ground is solid and it&#8217;s it&#8217;s just going to demolish these pegs completely in\u00a0<br \/>\nfact look at that almost ruined it already look see that it&#8217;s already chewed it up these are meant\u00a0<br \/>\nfor soft ground not not rocks like this right my [Music] pegs see that&#8217;s a peg all right let&#8217;s try these ones night and day difference now someone&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ngoing to say to me &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you use a metal hammer?&#8221; Cuz there are a lot of people around and\u00a0<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t want to make loads and loads and loads of noise going to take me ages so I&#8217;ll bring you back\u00a0<br \/>\nwhen I&#8217;m done right all done look at this space this tent is incredible now don&#8217;t forget it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ntechnically not a tent it&#8217;s a shelter um but what a space just amazing so much room inside\u00a0<br \/>\nand I&#8217;m in two minds whether to guy it out or not it&#8217;s pretty strong already there&#8217;s no\u00a0<br \/>\nwind at all if the wind comes then I will guy it all out but as it stands there&#8217;s just\u00a0<br \/>\nno point at all um I do worry about the snow loading on here but I think it will just fall\u00a0<br \/>\noff the side if it does snow at all i I I just don&#8217;t know at the moment and in fact it&#8217;s a bit\u00a0<br \/>\nmild at the moment it&#8217;s single digits but we&#8217;ve\u00a0\u00a0 got some sand flies so I&#8217;m going to light up\u00a0<br \/>\nsome um my thermosels and then let&#8217;s get all the gear in here but right now I&#8217;ve got to set\u00a0<br \/>\nsome thermosels up in there uh so we&#8217;ll do that first okay so we&#8217;ll crank these up all right we&#8217;ll crank these two thermostats let them sit in there for a few minutes and\u00a0<br \/>\nthen we&#8217;ll unload all the gear in there right bought everything in this is such a great space i don&#8217;t know where to start\u00a0<br \/>\ni think I think I&#8217;ll start with my bed the thermostats have worked the sand flies are gone now you might hear a weird\u00a0<br \/>\nnoise like a There&#8217;s a couple of ducks paradise ducks just here\u00a0<br \/>\nthey might come around in front\u00a0\u00a0 of the camera i don&#8217;t know but it\u00a0<br \/>\nseemed quite tame they&#8217;re used to people okay so I&#8217;ve got the Oz\u00a0<br \/>\nTrail single easy fold jumbo bed this thing is quite a beast as well very high off the ground okay so it&#8217;s slightly I want my head that in there we go that works yeah I think this will be good here and then did you hear that that&#8217;s the paradise\u00a0<br \/>\nducks that&#8217;s the noise they make that&#8217;s not me making that noise so I&#8217;ve got my bedding i&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\ngot a 0\u00b0 Fahrenheit quilt and I&#8217;ve got my swivel chair i&#8217;ve got a pad the Neo Loft Therm Moest pad\u00a0<br \/>\nright let&#8217;s get my chair set up it&#8217;s one of the most important things i brought with me that\u00a0<br \/>\nswivel chair that I just got i found another swivel chair that&#8217;s on its way just didn&#8217;t get\u00a0<br \/>\nto me in time so it&#8217;s a bit easier to set up than this not that I would say this is\u00a0<br \/>\ndifficult just a little bit of a faf swivel chairs oh just make\u00a0<br \/>\neverything so much easier honestly i&#8217;ll have to go and show you these ducks\u00a0\u00a0 so you believe me so you don&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nthink it&#8217;s just me making that noise look at that so easy i&#8217;ve got a couple\u00a0<br \/>\nof tables so I got those set up now as well but let me show you these ducks okay where are\u00a0<br \/>\nthey sounded like they were right behind the tent oh there they are that&#8217;s one that&#8217;s the\u00a0<br \/>\nfemale I think and I think the male has a white head they make so much noise oh there&#8217;s the\u00a0<br \/>\nmale there trying to lead me away from the female and I think they&#8217;re mate for life they&#8217;re very\u00a0<br \/>\nnoisy [Music] so this is where I am let me give you a look it&#8217;s getting a bit breezy the rain\u00a0<br \/>\nis just starting now there&#8217;s a toilet block there but it&#8217;s all closed for winter this\u00a0<br \/>\nthis camp is basically closed for winter now\u00a0\u00a0 just sort of day people and the occasional\u00a0<br \/>\ncamper van and people walking to go and see the glacia so you can see there&#8217;s a whole\u00a0<br \/>\nlot of people over there they&#8217;re going to\u00a0\u00a0 be disappointed because the track is closed\u00a0<br \/>\nand you can&#8217;t get to it now so there&#8217;ll be even less people here so a couple of camper\u00a0<br \/>\nvans there&#8217;s a caravan that&#8217;s just pulled up hey what are you doing noisy yep it&#8217;s a beautiful valley it will be more\u00a0<br \/>\nbeautiful when it&#8217;s covered in snow i just can&#8217;t believe there&#8217;s any snow up there at all like a\u00a0<br \/>\ntiny speckling crazy it should just be coated but it&#8217;ll be interesting to see what that looks like\u00a0<br \/>\ntomorrow morning right i need to put a coffee on so I&#8217;m going to get my table set up bring you\u00a0<br \/>\nall back okay one thing I definitely do need to do open the vents so you got two sets of vents up\u00a0<br \/>\nhere you got mosquito mesh so you can have that open if you want to and you got these snow vents\u00a0<br \/>\nthat stop stop snow and spin drift from coming in so we&#8217;ll have the have these vents just\u00a0<br \/>\nopen just to keep the air circulating in here when we&#8217;re cooking later I think that will be important to do as well look how\u00a0<br \/>\nmuch room I&#8217;ve got in here it&#8217;s amazing now I wish I was staying\u00a0<br \/>\nfor more than one night but I can&#8217;t i mean honestly that didn&#8217;t really take that long\u00a0\u00a0 to set up because it was the first time\u00a0<br \/>\nI had to look at the instructions and everything else it slowed me down a\u00a0<br \/>\nbit but didn&#8217;t take that long in a storm could be a bit tricky but not so\u00a0<br \/>\nbad not so bad i think it&#8217;s doable as long as you&#8217;ve pegged it out in\u00a0<br \/>\nadvance in a storm it&#8217;ll be fine\u00a0\u00a0 i think he says the next one I do could be in a\u00a0<br \/>\nstorm and will be in this tent because I&#8217;m going on to do another camp after this in a couple\u00a0<br \/>\nof days uh and taking all the same gear uh and that will be another video so that would be pretty\u00a0<br \/>\nepic right right now I need a coffee i just want to sit there and look out um so let&#8217;s do that now\u00a0<br \/>\nI I love having this vest i&#8217;m glad I put this on actually because when it does rain it did it did\u00a0<br \/>\nrain a minute ago it means I can sit out here and I&#8217;m looking at that view that I showed you earlier\u00a0<br \/>\nof all the mountains and it&#8217;ll be fine now in the snow snow&#8217;s going to come in but I could sit\u00a0<br \/>\nfurther back and still look out it doesn&#8217;t matter if this gets covered in snow makes no difference\u00a0<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s no floor of the tent if I had an inner I&#8217;d be more worried also having an inner on this\u00a0<br \/>\nmaterial I wouldn&#8217;t like it uh again I don&#8217;t see what an inner does unless you&#8217;ve got insects\u00a0<br \/>\ndoesn&#8217;t really make a difference i guess it could\u00a0\u00a0 trap some warmth in stop the breeze but if you&#8217;re\u00a0<br \/>\nin snowy conditions there won&#8217;t be any breeze because it will have packed down the sides you\u00a0<br \/>\nwait till you see my heater later i&#8217;m going to set\u00a0\u00a0 that up soon actually because it is getting cold\u00a0<br \/>\nright now I&#8217;ve got my my Iwatani my Iwatani grill this thing is awesome i&#8217;ve got my fast boil kettle with the heat exchanger we&#8217;re going old school i&#8217;ve got a Avalanche 99% sugar-free flat white remember when I used to have these all the time maybe camping thank you to\u00a0<br \/>\neveryone who&#8217;s bought merch by the way i think the camping cups the\u00a0<br \/>\ncamping cups the AV camping cups and um the hoodies they seem to be favorites oh and\u00a0<br \/>\nthe the hats okay now I need to make a rubbish bag right and while I&#8217;m waiting\u00a0<br \/>\nfor that a zesty drink as well cheers everybody oh yeah what else have I got other gear well I&#8217;m\u00a0<br \/>\nwearing those same boots that I wore up the tops uh my last trip which is the uh Hoka Kaha 3s these\u00a0<br \/>\nthings are fantastic so comfy so warm so grippy i&#8217;ve got some Kaharta pants on that are that are\u00a0<br \/>\nlined windproof and warm these are lovely better than wearing jeans they they look like jeans\u00a0<br \/>\nthe material but they&#8217;re not got my swan dry like farmer&#8217;s anorak thing fleece waterproof top\u00a0<br \/>\nbut mainly it&#8217;s windproof lovely and warm and you saw all the other gear that I brought with me i\u00a0<br \/>\ngot a ton more stuff i&#8217;ve got a couple of puffer\u00a0\u00a0 jackets an Extreme Expedition puffer jacket i\u00a0<br \/>\nprobably won&#8217;t need that on this one but I&#8217;ll need it on the next trip because I&#8217;m I&#8217;m staying\u00a0<br \/>\non the road um I&#8217;ve got two sleeping bags with me i&#8217;ve got the Diamond Park 0F and I got a\u00a0<br \/>\nUGQ which is all also uh 0 Fahrenheit just in case just in case one gets wet and I need\u00a0<br \/>\nthe other one i didn&#8217;t know i don&#8217;t know if\u00a0\u00a0 this tent&#8217;s going to leak hillberg tents are not\u00a0<br \/>\ndesigned for the rain they&#8217;re designed for snow there&#8217;s no seam sealing so the stitching it\u00a0<br \/>\nseals up uh they do sort of say you&#8217;re meant to seam seal this stuff yourself i don&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nknow we&#8217;ll see we&#8217;ll see fingers crossed it doesn&#8217;t leak the top of the tent though that\u00a0<br \/>\nbig vent cover is sealed so I&#8217;m hoping it I&#8217;ll cinch it up like that so it&#8217;s going to be\u00a0<br \/>\nthis this system here goes in and then cinch this up completely like so and then this plugs into my diesel heater which is here this is a heat port diesel heater so I&#8217;ve got an Anderson plug\u00a0<br \/>\nthat plugs straight into my battery bank okay and I&#8217;ve got a remote control so here&#8217;s what you do this end goes here like this and then this is the intake might expand that out a bit so I want to actually run it there we go\u00a0<br \/>\nlike that something like that we should be [Applause] fine okay all right so the smoke will smoke will rise we&#8217;ll be all good right now I\u00a0<br \/>\nusually cover it a bit because\u00a0\u00a0 of the electronics but you don&#8217;t actually have to but I levels okay it&#8217;s set to P5 so that&#8217;s the hottest so this\u00a0<br \/>\nis going to start cranking in a couple of minutes i can keep this closed i&#8217;ve got\u00a0<br \/>\nspare diesel in here i think it&#8217;s a 5 L tank [Applause]\u00a0\u00a0 and that&#8217;s just going to go in there now I need\u00a0<br \/>\nto set this up so that it kind of doesn&#8217;t pull uh will that be okay i think that&#8217;s going to pull\u00a0<br \/>\nwater though i need to pull it outwards like that i need to keep it here so I might have to use some\u00a0<br \/>\nstones just to stop the thing from moving around a lot ah that&#8217;s it there\u00a0<br \/>\nperfect might get another one okay and you&#8217;ll see the smoke start coming out of here can you hear that clicking and soon we&#8217;re better\u00a0<br \/>\nthan a hot tent any day no no smoke nothing just nice dry air and I can sleep\u00a0<br \/>\nwith that on low tonight that&#8217;s going to be lovely this is awesome i&#8217;m telling\u00a0<br \/>\nyou this vestibule superb and the view out here I know you can&#8217;t see it\u00a0<br \/>\nyou&#8217;re looking at a toilet block which\u00a0\u00a0 isn&#8217;t very nice but I am looking\u00a0<br \/>\nstraight up at the mountains it&#8217;s stunning and I&#8217;m dry and soon I&#8217;m going to be very very warm cuz that thing&#8217;s going\u00a0<br \/>\nto be cranking out a ton of heat so I think before we get to a deluge\u00a0<br \/>\nI will take you for a walk up to look at the lake up here okay sit rep it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nchucking down i was going to take you for a walk just to look at the lake but\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s really horrible out there it&#8217;s cold it&#8217;s just so grim i don&#8217;t want to go\u00a0<br \/>\nout i&#8217;ve closed the door almost full um just so it gets hot in here and it is warming\u00a0<br \/>\nup very quickly but I just don&#8217;t want to go out in this it&#8217;s horrible so I&#8217;m just going to chill\u00a0<br \/>\nout cuz what else is there to do i&#8217;m here to wait for the snow i&#8217;m stormchasing it would be nice if\u00a0<br \/>\nthere were some windows uh so I could see out cuz I I don&#8217;t like being cooped up it&#8217;s like the RBM\u00a0<br \/>\ntent i couldn&#8217;t see anything um but this is much bigger than the RBM tent so there&#8217;s a lot more\u00a0<br \/>\nspace it just feels like you&#8217;re at home you&#8217;re just not looking out at anything but yeah no\u00a0<br \/>\nwindows is a disadvantage um couple of panels would be nice in the vestibule maybe just one here\u00a0<br \/>\nand here that would be nice just to be able to look out but uh it&#8217;s not a big deal it&#8217;s getting\u00a0<br \/>\nwarm quite quickly in here now i&#8217;m just going to leave that thing cranking constantly so yeah\u00a0<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s all there is to report nothing else going on just chill out all right it&#8217;s quite a bit later um so I&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\nmade some adjustments we are now wet in here look at this it&#8217;s stopping everywhere just pools\u00a0<br \/>\nof water flooding through but it&#8217;s okay cuz you know I expected this 100% because I knew I&#8217;d\u00a0<br \/>\nbe on gravel um anything that mustn&#8217;t be in the water isn&#8217;t in the water that&#8217;s a waterproof\u00a0<br \/>\nbag there so it makes no difference that&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0 waterproof the Hillerberg bag so again makes\u00a0<br \/>\nno difference i&#8217;m up off the floor i bought a couple of car mats in just to put my feet on um\u00a0<br \/>\nthe heating I accidentally pulled it a bit too hard when it was wet and I ripped this piece\u00a0<br \/>\noff so I&#8217;ve had to cut it a bit and adjust it but that&#8217;s still cranking out lovely warm air\u00a0<br \/>\nnow it&#8217;s never going to be as hot as having a stove when you have a stove it&#8217;s baking hot\u00a0<br \/>\nand you have to turn it down all the time and honestly you cook a hot tent is just it&#8217;s so\u00a0<br \/>\nuncomfortable uh whereas this I can control it i&#8217;ve got it cranking on full and it&#8217;s warm in\u00a0<br \/>\nhere compared to outside it&#8217;s there&#8217;s a there&#8217;s a huge difference let&#8217;s go out have a look\u00a0<br \/>\naround because it&#8217;s been pelting down nonstop just really chucking down i&#8217;ve been checking the\u00a0<br \/>\ntent for any leaks i haven&#8217;t found any yet touch wood but you never know you just got to keep\u00a0<br \/>\nlooking i keep looking for drops [Applause] um it&#8217;s quite deceiving on the eye you think you see\u00a0<br \/>\na drop or you see something or you come in from the outside and you&#8217;re wet so you take your coat\u00a0<br \/>\noff and then wore a Hunter Element um halo and it leaked at\u00a0<br \/>\nthe zip this is an Aquag Guard zip no leaking right we&#8217;re going to go outside i&#8217;m going to give\u00a0<br \/>\nyou a tour of the whole place cuz I&#8217;m hoping now\u00a0\u00a0 it&#8217;s pretty quiet out there because no one&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ngoing to want to be out in this weather it&#8217;s just so grim i mean look how it&#8217;s strong so it was\u00a0\u00a0 for a good reason oh there&#8217;s a lot of rain gosh\u00a0<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s still a lot of vehicles around i can see some are packing up and going though let&#8217;s have\u00a0<br \/>\na look let me show you the facilities not that there are many to be honest cuz it&#8217;s it&#8217;s all\u00a0<br \/>\nmainly shut [Applause] down one last look at my little private spot it&#8217;s quite good cuz I&#8217;m\u00a0<br \/>\non the top of the hill as well all this water is flowing downhill now I don&#8217;t know how many\u00a0<br \/>\nof these people are going to be staying here tonight the ranger last time this happened and\u00a0<br \/>\na big snow dump came the ranger came around and he actually kicked people out he kicked in fact\u00a0<br \/>\nI think majority of people out the camper vans anyone in a rental camper van he kicked\u00a0<br \/>\nout because they just wouldn&#8217;t have been\u00a0\u00a0 able to cope they didn&#8217;t have winter tires they\u00a0<br \/>\ndidn&#8217;t have the gear i&#8217;ve got a feeling there&#8217;s a caravan over there that was here when I was\u00a0<br \/>\nhere last time and I met the family just over there there&#8217;s a caravan and they chased the storms\u00a0<br \/>\nas well so that might be them the same people as last time lot of rental camper vans it says Maui\u00a0<br \/>\non the side of those vans like this is a private man he doesn&#8217;t look like he&#8217;s got any heating\u00a0<br \/>\nso he&#8217;s in for a rough night I think yeah cool so this place shuts down for winter it shut\u00a0<br \/>\ndown a couple of days ago um by shutting down I mean they switch off all the water supply\u00a0<br \/>\ncuz it all freezes i&#8217;ll show you what it says so this facility is closed for\u00a0<br \/>\nwinter you can pause that and\u00a0\u00a0 read it do not feed the kia those\u00a0<br \/>\nare the mountain parrots uh very inquisitive very cheeky birds let&#8217;s have a look around gosh I&#8217;m really surprised by all these\u00a0<br \/>\ncamper vans that have come out in these conditions so you see what I mean by that Maui van maui is a\u00a0<br \/>\nrental company just like that Star RV is a rental company that guy there it&#8217;s a private held one so there&#8217;s a kitchen block over\u00a0<br \/>\nhere which you can do prep in it is open yeah I&#8217;m sure that&#8217;s the\u00a0<br \/>\nsame camper uh caravan that\u00a0\u00a0 was here last year positive it is now that&#8217;d be funny and there are people in here\u00a0<br \/>\nso I won&#8217;t go in but yeah there&#8217;s a kitchen block in here toilet blocks\u00a0<br \/>\nbut the toilet blocks are closed so\u00a0\u00a0 there&#8217;ll be temporary toilets\u00a0<br \/>\nelsewhere around the other side no heating or anything it&#8217;s just dry oh the\u00a0<br \/>\ntoilets are still open interesting okay yeah yeah toilet blocks are still open uh not for much\u00a0<br \/>\nlonger i&#8217;m sure in in a few days they&#8217;ll be closed i think it&#8217;s just because there were workmen here\u00a0<br \/>\nso yeah that&#8217;s pretty much it a lot of vehicles people going for the walk they&#8217;ve it just dries everything out in here you get no\u00a0<br \/>\ncondensation no moisture at all it&#8217;s a really nice dry heat which is handy the only time I&#8217;m going\u00a0<br \/>\nto open up this door tonight is when I&#8217;m going to start cooking uh because that&#8217;s going to make a\u00a0<br \/>\nhell of a mess in the meantime still just sitting back chilling i&#8217;m watching a couple of movies\u00a0<br \/>\nand I&#8217;m about to have another coffee just relax so one thing I am going to do is use my tent\u00a0<br \/>\n[Applause] heater so keeps your feet warm this is such a forecast that perhaps uh way more snow than they predicted and\u00a0<br \/>\nthat we could be stuck here up to 5 days now it&#8217;s their job to give these warnings um\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s what the rangers do but they apparently no one else is being allowed to stay or if\u00a0<br \/>\nthey do it&#8217;s at their own risk they&#8217;re not going to be rescued most of these guys do not\u00a0<br \/>\nhave enough heating or food to last in case so I don&#8217;t know what they&#8217;re going to do hey look\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s snowing up the top i&#8217;ve just noticed it&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0 now covered in snow up there so just up there\u00a0<br \/>\nis snowing so it&#8217;s coming soon it&#8217;s coming down yeah all right so we could be here for the long\u00a0<br found a leak look water here so\u00a0<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s tracked through the zip somewhere here uh now the zips are always the weakest points\u00a0<br \/>\non Hillberg tents and this is the vestibule zip so it must just be pooling somewhere here and\u00a0<br \/>\ngetting caught and then coming in yeah I think it&#8217;s wet here on the seam but not here cuz it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ngot the rain cover on it&#8217;s where the rain cover ends which is just here oh well that&#8217;s what I\u00a0<br \/>\npredicted somewhere but yeah the zips are always the weakest point but the rest of it seems fine\u00a0<br \/>\nno leaking on the seams from what I can tell which is a good thing cuz I don&#8217;t want to get dripped\u00a0<br \/>\non tonight uh but I do have the big rain cover on as well i got to hunker down oh and in other\u00a0<br \/>\nnews my Stony Creek Stowit Pro also leaks oh man it leaks at the pocket this seam above the Aqua\u00a0<br \/>\nGuard zip is not sealed so it came hemorrhaging into the pocket which is also not sealed and then\u00a0<br \/>\nsoaked my top look at that what is it with you lot you just can&#8217;t create decent products so I&#8217;m\u00a0<br \/>\ndone with that jacket as well i should have just bought my first light the first light does not\u00a0<br \/>\nleak and neither does the Mont Bell but that&#8217;s it i&#8217;m now officially done with Stony Creek uh\u00a0<br \/>\nSturret Pro i tried it leaks like a civ that was a lot of water on my top there and I&#8217;m done with\u00a0<br \/>\nthe Hunter&#8217;s Element uh Halo i&#8217;m now completely going to the first light vapor and the Montbell\u00a0<br \/>\nwhat can I do i tried it i tried but they both leak they both suck sit rep more leaking this\u00a0<br \/>\none is not as good so this is the roof panel that&#8217;s meant to be protecting us and it&#8217;s leaking\u00a0<br \/>\nat the seam here look at that that&#8217;s quite bad so yeah that&#8217;s coming through the vent so if it\u00a0<br \/>\ndoes it on this side my bed is right above it so I&#8217;m hoping it doesn&#8217;t do it on this side as\u00a0<br \/>\nwell let&#8217;s have a look there&#8217;s some splashes so what I&#8217;m looking for is an accumulation of\u00a0<br \/>\nwater in the vent there&#8217;s a tiny splash here um is it leaking here as well yep that&#8217;s leaking\u00a0<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s Yeah that&#8217;s leaking at the seam actually is that I can&#8217;t tell if it&#8217;s condensation or if it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nleaking no that&#8217;s leaking that&#8217;s too much water to be condensation okay so the roof panel they\u00a0<br \/>\ndidn&#8217;t seem sealed that either typical i just I can&#8217;t catch a break uh as I said this is designed\u00a0<br \/>\nfor snow right so I&#8217;m going to have to be careful with this because I don&#8217;t want an accumulation\u00a0<br \/>\nof water in here um I&#8217;m hoping it will seal up a bit but look it&#8217;s going to stop as soon as\u00a0<br \/>\nit starts snowing anyway and gets to freezing so that&#8217;s my only saving grace but I&#8217;ve got a lot\u00a0<br \/>\nof things on here that I need to seam seal now that&#8217;s quite bad up there though that&#8217;s a lot of\u00a0<br \/>\ndrops so I&#8217;ve got to seam seal this whole tent at some point hey ho Hillberg not usually waterproof\u00a0<br \/>\nbut everybody really knows this it&#8217;s a sort of a a known thing about hillbergs is they&#8217;re designed\u00a0<br \/>\nfor snow not for rain hey ho zip wrap it&#8217;s about half an hour later uh something has changed i can\u00a0<br \/>\nhear a different sort of noise and now I&#8217;m seeing ice or something building up on the outside like\u00a0<br \/>\nthat that&#8217;s ice on the outside uh oh look i don&#8217;t know if that&#8217;s going to come out on camera but\u00a0<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s spldes so I guess we&#8217;re going to go and\u00a0\u00a0 have a look and see if it&#8217;s snowing which means\u00a0<br \/>\nI need to put my flipping rain jacket on again what I might do is cuz this rain jacket&#8217;s useless\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s leaked like a sie and it is soaked so if I run out to the car I have my uh -18 jacket which\u00a0<br \/>\nis waterproof uh my expedition jacket so I can put that on instead so I&#8217;ve just got to run out\u00a0<br \/>\nthere i&#8217;ll put my cap on and then we&#8217;ll do this okay let&#8217;s see what&#8217;s going on out here zip is\u00a0<br \/>\nso far away needs to put a string on it let&#8217;s see what&#8217;s going on no it&#8217;s still raining oh no it is\u00a0<br \/>\nsnowing that&#8217;s big fat clumps of snow here we go ah let&#8217;s get under the cover here oh man oh yeah that&#8217;s a bit of snow okay I need to Let me just put you there for\u00a0<br \/>\na sec let me just get my big jacket of course it would help\u00a0<br \/>\nif the car wasn&#8217;t locked [Music] oh okay so this is waterproof\u00a0<br \/>\nmy Stellar Expedition jacket all right that&#8217;s better oh man that&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nwarm wow that&#8217;s like getting into a warm bed okay right so let&#8217;s see what we&#8217;re dealing\u00a0<br \/>\nwith out here let me just clean the camera all right it&#8217;s a mix of rain and snow\u00a0<br \/>\nand it&#8217;s slushing up look look at that yeah so I think this is it this is\u00a0<br \/>\nthe transition now to snow that&#8217;s happened a bit quicker than I thought\u00a0<br \/>\nit was going to happen uh snow on the\u00a0\u00a0 mountains still hasn&#8217;t come all the way\u00a0<br \/>\ndown here so this is just wet stuff um but I&#8217;m actually kind of glad because it was\u00a0<br \/>\ndripping inside just not designed for rain i&#8217;ve checked my diesel heater i&#8217;ve still got\u00a0<br \/>\nloads of fuel but what I&#8217;ll do tonight before\u00a0\u00a0 bed is I&#8217;ll come back out and I&#8217;ll refill refill\u00a0<br \/>\nthe diesel because I&#8217;ve got a whole tank of it there that&#8217;s 20 L which is what 5 gallons yeah so\u00a0<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve got plenty so now nothing to do except wait for this snow to really kick in um and then we can\u00a0<br \/>\nhave dinner in the snow and cigar time in the snow i wonder how deep this is going to [Music] get\u00a0<br \/>\nall right bring you back later everybody okay I think the snow is falling uh quite consistently\u00a0<br \/>\nnow and I&#8217;ve got to go back out again it&#8217;s It&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0 quite late now i&#8217;ve got the light on uh and clear\u00a0<br \/>\nthe Starlink because um seems to have got blocked and then when I do that I&#8217;ve got to change the\u00a0<br \/>\nsetting on it to turn on the automatic heating function oh man I can&#8217;t win right here we go back out into the grim let&#8217;s see how\u00a0<br \/>\nmuch snow is on this [Applause] tent oh not much not much at all so let&#8217;s check\u00a0<br \/>\nthe Star Link and see what&#8217;s going on well there&#8217;s absolutely no reason why\u00a0<br \/>\nthat wouldn&#8217;t work very odd couldn&#8217;t get a signal thermometer let&#8217;s have a look h it&#8217;s just\u00a0<br \/>\nabove zero all right well that doesn&#8217;t make any sense very strange snow check it out oh this is going to look lovely when\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s covered absolutely lovely but it&#8217;s it is cold okay did all that for nothing right right\u00a0<br \/>\nlet&#8217;s go for a little wonder let&#8217;s go and see uh who&#8217;s left on the campsite i&#8217;m\u00a0<br \/>\nkind of curious let&#8217;s go have a look i can&#8217;t imagine there&#8217;s many people here now [Applause]\u00a0\u00a0 snow is starting to settle and if there&#8217;s no one around we can go\u00a0<br \/>\nand look in Oh look there&#8217;s rabbits we can go and look in the building the kitchen\u00a0<br \/>\narea and see what&#8217;s going on in there [Applause]\u00a0\u00a0 i can&#8217;t see any vehicles yet i think I see one H i mean these are grim conditions why would you want to be here at 930 m\u00a0<br \/>\nabove sea level in a what they&#8217;ve said is going to be a storm i&#8217;m pretty sure I see\u00a0<br \/>\none camper van parked over there maybe two it&#8217;s very very wet snow and I think it&#8217;s just\u00a0<br \/>\nstarting to rain again it&#8217;s going to be on and off like this for a little bit some people might still\u00a0<br \/>\nhave gone up to the track might be heading back here well the caravan is gone what&#8217;s that over there one vehicle [Applause] no nothing in this car park either h Wait am I all by myself how creepy is\u00a0<br \/>\nthat yeah everyone has been kicked out except me wow it&#8217;s just me and I know the gates\u00a0<br \/>\nare closed now and locked interesting and those ranger houses are only open\u00a0<br \/>\nin the summer so there&#8217;s nobody here well celibate right i&#8217;ll show you\u00a0<br \/>\nwhat the uh kitchen area looks like toilets are now closed that&#8217;s it\u00a0<br \/>\nfor the season but the kitchen area is open look someone left the door open idiots so this place does have lighting\u00a0<br \/>\num maybe it just it&#8217;s on a timer or something you can&#8217;t see anything in\u00a0<br \/>\nhere really yeah cool i can see my tent so there is lighting in here somewhere yeah\u00a0<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s LED strips i don&#8217;t know why they&#8217;re not working oh well we&#8217;ll close this door on the way\u00a0<br \/>\nout i can&#8217;t believe someone just left it like that so yeah this is the kitchen\u00a0<br \/>\narea with some bins very very basic that sink won&#8217;t work it&#8217;s all switched off there won&#8217;t be any water\u00a0<br \/>\nmaybe something left in there nope no all shut off but you know what but\u00a0<br \/>\nif it got really really really horrible out there you just bring all of your gear in\u00a0<br \/>\nhere and hunker down right back to camp then bring you back at the tent home sweet\u00a0<br \/>\nhome the Eagloo i think that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re going to have to call it awesome all right\u00a0<br \/>\nlet&#8217;s get inside out of this misery [Music] [Music]\u00a0\u00a0 yeah snow build up on the\u00a0<br \/>\ndoor makes it difficult to close okay and we&#8217;re inoo got damp because uh water seemed to have somehow got in as well\u00a0<br \/>\neven on these through the zips um and I think that was my mistake was because I hadn&#8217;t closed them\u00a0<br \/>\nup properly or something um yeah so it just it it trickled down which is a shame but anyway I&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\nnow got my ski pants on these things are so warm uh these are called 686 and yeah these are\u00a0<br \/>\nsuper warm right let&#8217;s go to the truck and because we&#8217;re going to be cooking I&#8217;ve got to open\u00a0<br \/>\nthis fully oh oh it&#8217;s a lot oh wow a lot of wet snow gosh let&#8217;s do that oh it&#8217;s a winter\u00a0<br \/>\nwonderland let&#8217;s turn the brightness up for you look at that awesome right let&#8217;s go\u00a0<br \/>\nto the truck cuz I&#8217;m getting snowed on i bet you can&#8217;t see anything oh let&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\njust check the heating see what&#8217;s going on here yep that all looks the same good\u00a0<br \/>\nokay creepy to think I&#8217;m the only one here all right so what we&#8217;ve got uh what\u00a0<br \/>\nI&#8217;m going to do for dinner tonight are burgers be nice and quick got buns burgers um I was going\u00a0<br \/>\nto have tomato and mustard but I&#8217;m just going to have tomato\u00a0<br \/>\nketchup do I want cheese on these um I can put a couple of pieces of cheese\u00a0<br \/>\nand then the rest of the food stays here all right okay so I&#8217;ll bring you back inside\u00a0<br \/>\nthe tent cooking some lovely burgers in the snow i hope you can see me right\u00a0<br \/>\nokay i&#8217;ve got to push the snow off cuz that was really drooping down she said &#8220;Okay we&#8217;re all good now.&#8221; Right can you see me i I honestly I&#8217;m just hoping\u00a0<br \/>\nyou can so I&#8217;ve got my cob drill every time I go out I just get covered in\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow and get soaked each time quite a pain so I&#8217;m just not going to be doing that\u00a0<br \/>\nmuch often anymore i&#8217;m going to stay in here okay gas okay flame on all right flame on okay we don&#8217;t need the pizza oven we just need the grill right that goes on there with Holy moly these flakes so I&#8217;ve got my little\u00a0<br \/>\ntent heater going here as well my towel that I brought with me is already\u00a0<br \/>\nwet from wiping condensation myself my jackets everything is just getting absolutely caked it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ncrazy but this is what I wanted with snow this is started quite a bit earlier than I thought it\u00a0<br \/>\nwould actually it&#8217;s4 to 8 i wasn&#8217;t expecting it to really really kick off until a bit later so\u00a0<br \/>\nis what it is right so as soon as this is up to temperature we&#8217;ll put the burgers on and the burgers we&#8217;re\u00a0<br \/>\nhaving are Angus premium Angus burgers right all right so just wait for this okay this is smoking let&#8217;s put the burgers on and I&#8217;ve got a couple of\u00a0<br \/>\nBrios buns that I&#8217;ve got to cut in preparation for our feast of burgers and buns so uh there&#8217;s been a weather update i think it&#8217;s going to be a lot\u00a0<br \/>\nless snow than they thought it was going to be i think we&#8217;ll be lucky\u00a0<br \/>\nto have 6 in i can&#8217;t see it being at at most a foot but they were saying\u00a0<br \/>\nbe prepared to be stuck here for 5 days i think they were just trying to scare\u00a0<br \/>\npeople out of the campground that&#8217;s what\u00a0\u00a0 I think i don&#8217;t think they really genuinely\u00a0<br \/>\never thought that cuz they&#8217;re right there as well nearby the rangers are nearby so I don&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nknow don&#8217;t know what they were thinking really so um after this obviously we&#8217;re\u00a0<br \/>\ngoing to have cigar time i just I just uh I&#8217;m just enjoying being in this snow\u00a0<br \/>\ni&#8217;m liking the fact this tent that I can sit undercover oh hudof that I can sit under\u00a0<br \/>\nthe vestibule and look out and the snow is not coming in it&#8217;s just coming in obviously\u00a0<br \/>\nunder the vestibule but that doesn&#8217;t matter\u00a0\u00a0 to me makes no difference cuz the floor&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nwet anyway so that makes no difference whatsoever this little heater it&#8217;s quite useful um okay i guess I&#8217;ll bring you\u00a0<br \/>\nback when the burgers are ready uh but it really is snowing\u00a0<br \/>\nproperly now there&#8217;s no more rain it was meant to rain until about midnight\u00a0<br \/>\nthen snow it&#8217;s already snowing at 8 i wonder how much snow we&#8217;re going to get\u00a0<br \/>\ni&#8217;m sure you already know because it will be in the thumbnail and it will be in the\u00a0<br \/>\nintro but it will still be interesting all right everyone bring it back for burgers oh\u00a0<br \/>\nand I might have a zesty drink vanilla Coke Zero i am going to keep that heater running\u00a0<br \/>\nall night so I do need to go out there and refill the diesel I think before I go to bed\u00a0<br \/>\nso I don&#8217;t want it going out it will be a condensation nightmare in here and freezing\u00a0<br \/>\ncold if that goes out a survival situation right burgers okay I think\u00a0<br \/>\nburgers are ready um let me just I&#8217;ve toasted the bottom bun oh oh\u00a0<br \/>\nyes i&#8217;ve put a piece of cheese on the burgers oh man these going to\u00a0<br \/>\nbe so good we turn this heat off okay one cool thing that&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nhappening is all the smoke is blowing straight out very cool right I need tomato ketchup i&#8217;ve been waiting for these desperately and I&#8217;m sure some people are going to say\u00a0<br \/>\nyou should toast the top bun honestly I\u00a0\u00a0 can&#8217;t be bothered i&#8217;m so starving now i\u00a0<br \/>\njust want them like this oh and here we go two delicious cheeseburgers angus cheeseburgers\u00a0<br \/>\nin a snowstorm great success one of tea everybody oh wow what more could I want burgers tent snow so if I was in Buddy right now if I\u00a0<br \/>\nbought Buddy here my camper van and\u00a0\u00a0 I parked in this spot I would just\u00a0<br \/>\nbe sitting in there you can&#8217;t have the awning out cuz it won&#8217;t be\u00a0<br \/>\nable to take the weight of the snow absolutely nothing would happen i&#8217;d just sitting in the camp ram and I&#8217;m\u00a0<br \/>\nsure you&#8217;d find that all boring buddy is good to be in for storms blizzards\u00a0<br \/>\ni wouldn&#8217;t want to be in a blizzard in this where the winds are howling i&#8217;m confident the tank can\u00a0<br \/>\ntake it i just don&#8217;t want to be in it i tell you what the condensation in\u00a0<br \/>\nhere is absolutely next level now wow i don&#8217;t know what it&#8217;s going\u00a0<br \/>\nto look like in the morning the trouble with this tent also is I\u00a0<br \/>\nthink the roof vent gets covered in snow i really wish it had the vents\u00a0<br \/>\nlike the Nage has the Hill Nage has these pop out vents they&#8217;re brilliant in the snow so good all right everyone bring you back for cigar time welcome back everybody to cigar time what else is going on ah uh the the\u00a0<br \/>\nnews that just came out a couple of days ago uh Ukraine managed to launch a drone attack on\u00a0<br \/>\nRussia that they&#8217;ve been planning for over a year this thing was insane like out of movie uh\u00a0<br \/>\nthey they managed to trick some Russian drivers into driving these trucks near these bases that\u00a0<br \/>\nwere in the middle of nowhere they launched all these drones remotely the truck drivers were\u00a0<br \/>\ntrying to knock them out the sky with rocks um and they blew up a whole load of Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nplanes long-distance bombers nuclear bombers and everything else it was audacious an amazing\u00a0<br \/>\namazing uh accomplishment for Ukraine they say they did it all by themselves without any anyone\u00a0<br \/>\nelse&#8217;s involvement seems a bit weird i mean the\u00a0\u00a0 drones must have come from somewhere else they\u00a0<br \/>\nsaid they made them but it was all in English which why would it be in English if Ukrainians\u00a0<br \/>\nmade them but anyway um pretty epic my concern now is what happens what&#8217;s the retaliation by\u00a0<br \/>\nthe time this video comes out you&#8217;ll probably already know so I don&#8217;t know look might maybe no\u00a0<br \/>\nretaliation at all i&#8217;m not sure but uh yeah look they had it coming so um good on him uh good\u00a0<br \/>\non Ukraine well done it was a a great a great thing to do and Russia definitely had it coming\u00a0<br \/>\nso you know mess around find out as they say um I&#8217;m going to keep this really short this one\u00a0<br \/>\nbecause I&#8217;d rather spend more time in the morning in the snow and I don&#8217;t want to make this video\u00a0<br \/>\nreally really long so just a couple of sporting things paris San PSG won the Champions League\u00a0<br \/>\nand then their supporters completely ruined it by rioting in the streets and I think someone\u00a0<br \/>\ndied or a couple of people died horrible why can&#8217;t\u00a0\u00a0 people just celebrate nicely i think uh weren&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nthere riots once where a few years ago when Philadelphia won the Super Bowl something like\u00a0<br \/>\nthat fans just go ballistic and I have no idea why i don&#8217;t know football and American\u00a0<br \/>\nfootball seem to bring out the worst in people when they celebrate uh also in\u00a0<br \/>\nFormula 1 uh in Barcelona the race there it was a crazy race but Max Vstappen had to\u00a0<br \/>\ngive a place back to George Russell because um he&#8217;d gone off track and and got ahead of him\u00a0<br \/>\nanyway those are the rules and he was told to do this he argued he hated it anyway so he did it he\u00a0<br \/>\nslowed down george Russer went past and then and then Max Stapen basically just drove into him\u00a0<br \/>\ndeliberately uh out of sheer petulence and red mist having to do it just sheer petulence kind\u00a0<br \/>\nof reminded me of the and center days and center used to do stuff like that but h got punished\u00a0<br \/>\nand he&#8217;s got three penalty points his license one more penalty point and he&#8217;s got a race ban\u00a0<br \/>\nwhich would basically be the end of his season So petulence never pays off it just doesn&#8217;t it really\u00a0<br \/>\ndoesn&#8217;t it was a silly move i can&#8217;t believe he did that so you know what that&#8217;s it very very\u00a0<br \/>\nshort cigar time because it&#8217;s cold i want to zip this tent up i want to keep the heat in\u00a0<br \/>\nget warm before I go to bed try and dry it out a bit i think once I seal it up this the diesel\u00a0<br \/>\nheater will dry it all up um but before I do any of that I&#8217;m going to finish the cigar have my\u00a0<br \/>\nhot chocolate and then we&#8217;ll go out and we&#8217;ll\u00a0\u00a0 fill up the diesel so I&#8217;ll show you me filling\u00a0<br \/>\nthe diesel up in the diesel heater uh and then uh yeah it&#8217;ll be bedtime and I&#8217;ll bring you back\u00a0<br \/>\nfor that afterwards but thanks again for coming\u00a0\u00a0 on this video on this camping trip everyone\u00a0<br \/>\ni&#8217;m discombobulated now i&#8217;m just looking at all this snow and um let&#8217;s see fingers crossed\u00a0<br \/>\nwe get a lot of snow for the morning any to be honest is good a good result for us with the way\u00a0<br \/>\nthe climate is going the way things are warming up in New Zealand we&#8217;re getting less and less\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow every year it&#8217;s getting less and less and uh to the point where ski fields are\u00a0<br \/>\njust bone dry no snow on them it&#8217;s crazy I think um New Zealand is\u00a0<br \/>\nparticularly vulnerable susceptible to what&#8217;s going on with the climate and uh yeah\u00a0<br \/>\nit really is warming up and there doesn&#8217;t seem to be anything we can do about it so doesn&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nmatter what we do now I think it&#8217;s all too late so bring it back for filling up the diesel all right time to put the diesel in the tank so I need to try and do this without\u00a0<br \/>\nshutting the thing off accidentally it&#8217;s a messy job and because it&#8217;s diesel\u00a0<br \/>\nand not petrol gasoline you can do it while it&#8217;s still running it&#8217;s fine not much is going to happen [Music] okay right so it&#8217;s here it&#8217;s used let me tell you how much it&#8217;s used i&#8217;d say it&#8217;s used just over half\u00a0<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s not bad not bad at all okay don&#8217;t do this with petrol or gasoline i mean so this has been running at full power all day and it&#8217;s used just over\u00a0<br \/>\nhalf that&#8217;s pretty good going and I think it&#8217;s a 4 and\u00a0<br \/>\n1\/2 liter 4 and 1\/2 liter tank so I&#8217;m putting the rock on just in case it&#8217;s windy okay all done so that&#8217;ll easily be enough\u00a0<br \/>\nuntil tomorrow morning um I don&#8217;t I won&#8217;t have to go and check it in the\u00a0<br \/>\nmiddle of night or anything but uh hey\u00a0\u00a0 it&#8217;s pretty amazing uh how it&#8217;s just running\u00a0<br \/>\nand keeping it all warm in there mildly warm it&#8217;s not hot in there at all but it&#8217;s better than\u00a0<br \/>\nbeing out here all right everyone bring you back at bedtime right before I go to bed I just want\u00a0<br \/>\nto clear clear some of 15\u00b0 C\u00a0<br \/>\ndown here i don&#8217;t know what it is but it&#8217;s a lot colder i&#8217;m glad I&#8217;ve got this zero degree\u00a0<br \/>\nbag uh zero Fahrenheit uh because So what is 0 Fahrenheit minus 12 uh oh &#8211; 18 something like that\u00a0<br \/>\ni don&#8217;t know but this diamond part bag is just been a lifesaver before i&#8217;ve used it in extreme\u00a0<br \/>\nconditions up on the mountains up on Mars so what I&#8217;m hoping is the heater dries it out in here\u00a0<br \/>\ncuz the condensation is biblical and what I don&#8217;t want is a whole lot of condensation condensation\u00a0<br \/>\ndripping on me all night so now that I&#8217;ve closed it all I&#8217;ve got a ground vent open just over\u00a0<br \/>\nhere but now that I&#8217;ve closed the top vents and\u00a0\u00a0 everything else I&#8217;m hoping the heat just builds\u00a0<br \/>\nup in here and it&#8217;s a dry heat so it&#8217;s fresh air coming in that&#8217;s being heated and then pumped into\u00a0<br \/>\nhere so there&#8217;s positive pressure in here so I&#8217;m hoping it will push the condensation out through\u00a0<br \/>\nthat vent down there at least that&#8217;s the plan i know that I filled it up with fuel so it&#8217;s going\u00a0<br \/>\nto run all night no problem at all um I don&#8217;t know if I&#8217;m going to sleep well tonight i honestly\u00a0<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t it&#8217;s bucketing down with snow out there i can hear it i can hear it because I I punched all\u00a0<br \/>\nthe snow off before I got into bed um but we&#8217;ll see how much the accumulation is i read somewhere\u00a0<br \/>\nthat this tent someone used it in Antarctica an explorer and said it withtood an incredible\u00a0<br \/>\namount of snow 2 feet of snow and gale force winds over 100 km an hour and it didn&#8217;t budge\u00a0<br \/>\nso I know it&#8217;s built for major major conditions i tell you what&#8217;s not going to be fun though\u00a0<br \/>\nis packing this thing down with all that snow gosh that&#8217;s going to be an absolute\u00a0<br \/>\nnightmare and it and this tent is wet it&#8217;s going to be carrying a lot of weight oh\u00a0<br \/>\nyou never know i might have to do two nights here we&#8217;ll see i don&#8217;t know it&#8217;s meant to get down\u00a0<br \/>\nto some seriously cold conditions tomorrow um or the next sorry the next night tomorrow night\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s meant to get down to minus 10 Celsius i don&#8217;t know what that is in Fahrenheit you&#8217;ll have\u00a0<br \/>\nto Google it but um that could worry me a bit if this is all frozen solid and how well is that\u00a0<br \/>\ndiesel heater going to work in those conditions everything&#8217;s going to freeze the ground&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ngoing to freeze solid it will be a chunk of ice oh man I do pick them all right\u00a0<br \/>\neveryone unless something major happens in the middle of the night\u00a0<br \/>\ni&#8217;ll see you in the morning good night everybody morning everybody oh it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ncold temperatures definitely dropped all the heating as predicted is right up there but\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s okay cuz I&#8217;ve got this really massive quilt i slept pretty well actually just the sounds of\u00a0<br \/>\nthe snow and stuff but I got to show you something we&#8217;ve had a bit of a catastrophic failure with\u00a0<br \/>\nthe vestibule so uh I&#8217;m kind of stuck i&#8217;m going to have to go out of this door but I&#8217;ll I&#8217;ll get\u00a0<br \/>\ndressed and I&#8217;ll show you what&#8217;s going on it&#8217;s now 7:30 so it&#8217;s only just starting to get light\u00a0<br \/>\nso let me get dressed and I&#8217;ll bring you back and show you the damage all right I&#8217;m suited and\u00a0<br \/>\nbooted so here&#8217;s the situation the vestibule has completely collapsed see um so somewhere\u00a0<br \/>\nunder there there&#8217;s a pole uh and I think the pole is now broken maybe the pole is snapped we&#8217;re\u00a0<br \/>\ngoing to have to go outside to assess the damage so I&#8217;m going to take my shovel we&#8217;ll go out the\u00a0<br \/>\nback way and we&#8217;ll go and see what we&#8217;re dealing with okay now the bigger issue I&#8217;ve got is\u00a0<br \/>\ntrying to find the zip on this thing cuz all the snow you could actually Let me turn you around so\u00a0<br \/>\nyou can see the problem I&#8217;ve got is all the snow has built up\u00a0<br \/>\nhere see so trying to get to the zip is a bit of a nightmare oh man didn&#8217;t foresee\u00a0<br \/>\nthis being an issue this is what it would be handy if the zip would open at the top okay zips at this end i got it that was cold you got to laugh that could\u00a0<br \/>\nhave been quite bad okay here we go let&#8217;s see what we&#8217;re dealing with outside okay oh that&#8217;s not bad at all that&#8217;s only This isn&#8217;t even half a foot of\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow this is like 4 in 3 in if that oh yay right let&#8217;s walk around\u00a0<br \/>\nand see what&#8217;s going on with the vestibule it&#8217;s a nice morning what&#8217;s going on oh gosh oh yeah the pole\u00a0<br \/>\nis completely buckled oh no right I&#8217;ve got to deal with this yeah the pole pole has actually snapped just\u00a0<br \/>\nfrom that amount of snow that&#8217;s it it&#8217;s snapped unbelievable they put these massive poles on here and then this one thin pole on the\u00a0<br \/>\nvestibule no wonder it snapped oh man that wasn&#8217;t much snow at all that&#8217;s very disappointing i&#8217;m very\u00a0<br \/>\ndisappointed in Hillbird this vestibule is not cheap so there is a sleeve repul uh repair kit that it comes with\u00a0<br \/>\nluckily so I will be able to fix that temporarily wow no more than 3 in of snow and it&#8217;s gone the rest of it is absolutely fine\u00a0<br \/>\nbut you can see on the truck there&#8217;s only about you know 3 in all right let&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nget on with it oh I don&#8217;t know where to start got to find the bottom of the fabric okay got the zip i mean look at this look at where it&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nsnapped and look it&#8217;s a piece of it it&#8217;s just It&#8217;s just gone this piece here wow let me just put this in the camera so\u00a0<br \/>\nyou can see it look at that can you see that it&#8217;s just sheared off the end so I&#8217;m going to need\u00a0<br \/>\nto use the pole sleeve repair kit to somehow combine this now I haven&#8217;t checked the repair\u00a0<br \/>\nkit so I don&#8217;t know exactly what it looks like excuse the R shot oh and this one&#8217;s bent of course it is\u00a0<br \/>\nso this is better to be all the way up here oh man oh this it&#8217;s slapped into three pieces look at that with the cord well I don&#8217;t know how you going to repair that right I&#8217;ve got to go and get the uh repair\u00a0<br \/>\nkit and see what I got to do okay this is the pole repair kit so they give you one extra sleeve and\u00a0<br \/>\na a joiner uh that that you can wedge around both so what I&#8217;ve got to do is work out which bits are\u00a0<br \/>\ngood so this bit is still good with the elastic in this one still seems to be good so what\u00a0<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll do is all I&#8217;ve got to do is make up for that one piece that&#8217;s snapped which is this\u00a0<br \/>\npiece here here well that replicates this piece so I don&#8217;t even think I&#8217;ll need the\u00a0<br \/>\npole sleeve strengthener i&#8217;ve got the end here i&#8217;ll just thread this through\u00a0<br \/>\nthis way and this should all link up okay it goes like that now it is bent a little bit but that&#8217;s okay okay so\u00a0<br \/>\nI should be able to uncip this because I don&#8217;t want to stress it here all right so this is going to want\u00a0<br \/>\nto fall off the end because there&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0 no elastic but that&#8217;s okay can deal\u00a0<br \/>\nwith that right so that should slot in yep and it should hold oops hold\u00a0<br \/>\non i need to wedge this bottom one in yeah so the the pole the whole pole is\u00a0<br \/>\nruined i need new elastic could do with a new pole but to be honest this whole thing\u00a0<br \/>\nshould be the same pole structure as these ones this is definitely a flawed design\u00a0<br \/>\nto make the vestibule weaker pulled than the others all right so let&#8217;s try again now\u00a0<br \/>\nthat I&#8217;ve repaired that sleeve now as far as I know Hillerberg are the only company\u00a0<br \/>\nin the world that supply their tents with pole repair kits i&#8217;ve never seen that in any\u00a0<br \/>\nother tent where it just comes with it by by standard and that&#8217;s what makes Hillberg Hill\u00a0<br \/>\neven if they should have used a bigger pole here and just like that the vestibule is repaired\u00a0<br \/>\nta okay it&#8217;s bent here i&#8217;m not going to try and fix that because I don&#8217;t want it to snap come\u00a0<br \/>\non Hillerberg 3 in of snow not even that cuz I cleared it off last night crazy absolutely\u00a0<br \/>\ncrazy i&#8217;ll write to them and see what they say that&#8217;s That&#8217;s nuts but hey we&#8217;re back up and\u00a0<br \/>\nrunning and it&#8217;s a lovely morning it&#8217;s not snowing anymore it says the highway is closed ah I don&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nbelieve that so what we&#8217;ll do we&#8217;re going to have a nice breakfast a nice cup of coffee and then\u00a0<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ll pack up and we&#8217;ll head off because I can\u00a0\u00a0 drive through this no problem at all um yeah let&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nhave a coffee right pole repair kit so even the big one I can&#8217;t even imagine there&#8217;s two massive\u00a0<br \/>\nsections in here for the the really huge poles uh I wish that&#8217;s that&#8217;s the flaw that\u00a0<br \/>\nthey didn&#8217;t use the same pole type for the vestibule they really should have done\u00a0<br \/>\nthis just isn&#8217;t strong enough not for a heavy load all right enough whining\u00a0<br \/>\nabout that coffee time oh getting hot now we&#8217;re going to go with Makona strong cappuccino yeah so the whole the whole vestibule was\u00a0<br \/>\nresting on the cooker now the funny thing is I didn&#8217;t hear it in the middle of the\u00a0<br \/>\nnight collapse that&#8217;s probably because I\u00a0\u00a0 had the diesel heater running and it&#8217;s quite noisy so how did I sleep well yeah I had a good\u00a0<br \/>\nsleep i was comfy i was warm i had to put my hood up so the temperature difference I did check\u00a0<br \/>\nthe temperature difference so down here where I was sleeping was about 1 2\u00b0 like 3\u00b0 just above\u00a0<br \/>\nfreezing up in the ceiling it was 16 17 degrees C again you just have to Google it i&#8217;m sorry\u00a0<br \/>\ni don&#8217;t know i could put it in the edit but the thing is people ask me why can&#8217;t I put the\u00a0<br \/>\ntemperatures in i forget that I&#8217;ve said things\u00a0\u00a0 and I don&#8217;t when I&#8217;m editing these videos\u00a0<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t watch every single minute on the on replay i just trim the beginning and the end\u00a0<br \/>\nbecause I want you just to have the authentic experience but sometimes I have to take\u00a0<br \/>\nsome other hours of footage and trim it down right i am now hot it&#8217;s official this\u00a0<br \/>\njacket okay it&#8217;s a bit overkill it&#8217;s designed for 8,000 meters so good\u00a0<br \/>\nsleep um the weather yeah that was average snow three four I mean I&#8217;m\u00a0<br \/>\nlooking out there it&#8217;s like 4 in uh okay five five inches of snow\u00a0<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s it i&#8217;d say most has fallen i can&#8217;t believe this collapsed with 5 in\u00a0<br \/>\nof snow imagine if I had had a foot of\u00a0\u00a0 snow this would just be completely pancaked\u00a0<br \/>\non the floor so Hillberg so Petra who runs Hillberg I&#8217;ve got to say to her look you need\u00a0<br \/>\nto redo this vestibule with the bigger poles one reason why they might not have done that\u00a0<br \/>\nis it&#8217;s too tight a space for that thick a pole that could be it but they could pre-bend\u00a0<br \/>\nthe poles then it would work but as it stands nothing I could have done would have stopped\u00a0<br \/>\nthat from happening nothing absolutely nothing\u00a0\u00a0 i&#8217;d have had to get up every half hour bash the\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow off um it&#8217;s just the pole just gave way such a shame the other thing\u00a0<br \/>\nthey could do is double pole it that&#8217;s an option two poles that might do it and I think two poles can\u00a0<br \/>\nfit in the sleeve and you just clip alternately um I&#8217;ll ask her anyway cuz to me the vest the the\u00a0<br \/>\nthe vestibule is essential and now I&#8217;m stuck with a pole that&#8217;s broken and I&#8217;m meant to do another\u00a0<br \/>\ncamp now but we&#8217;ll see if I do that or not it depends if there&#8217;s any weather coming in i think\u00a0<br \/>\nwhatever&#8217;s happened here is over because I can see a little bit of thin I can see a little bit\u00a0<br \/>\nof blue peeking through some thin cloud up there but just as I say that it&#8217;s now starting to snow again all right so plan today coffee essential then we&#8217;ll cook up some breakfast and\u00a0<br \/>\nI think what we&#8217;re going to do is have a waffle i haven&#8217;t had a waffle for a while i want waffle\u00a0<br \/>\nmaple syrup and I can just do that at the back of the truck plug it in i&#8217;ve got a a waffle maker\u00a0<br \/>\nrunning off the electricity no problem i&#8217;ve still\u00a0\u00a0 got loads of power left and then we&#8217;ll pack down\u00a0<br \/>\nwhich I&#8217;m dreading and we&#8217;ll head off i was going to take you for a walk some places but the tracks\u00a0<br \/>\nare closed um yeah all right coffee&#8217;s almost ready right i want a little bit of peace and quiet\u00a0<br \/>\ni don&#8217;t want to listen to the heater anymore so I&#8217;m going to turn it off because I don&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nthink I need it anymore on if I need to give\u00a0\u00a0 it one quick blast I will later so I&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\ngot the remote control just press the off button and that&#8217;s it that goes through\u00a0<br \/>\nits shutdown phase safely it burns off any soot and then after a couple of minutes\u00a0<br \/>\nit stops you&#8217;re not meant to just pull the power out of these things you\u00a0<br \/>\nhave to shut them down properly\u00a0\u00a0 uh or else yeah it soots up on the glow plug\u00a0<br \/>\nand it&#8217;s a on the glow plug and it&#8217;s a bad idea and it shut down now we can enjoy the\u00a0<br \/>\npeace and tranquility of this beautiful spot i have my coffee before we do breakfast so\u00a0<br \/>\nI think I&#8217;ve got to do the customary walk in the snow to hear the snowy footprints because it just\u00a0<br \/>\nsounds so great when you go for a wonder in the snow let&#8217;s go and have a look at the camp now wonder how my Starlink is doing look at that melt\u00a0<br \/>\nfunction on the Starlink this is why I&#8217;ve got internet wonder how much fuel I have left oh half a tank good job look at this see I told you that would be\u00a0<br \/>\ncovered in snow you can just see the ridge beautiful just beautiful\u00a0<br \/>\nand to have it all to myself not a soul around and in the distance you can&#8217;t really make it out but there&#8217;s the lake long long\u00a0<br \/>\nway away there started the lake Pukaki stunning i need waffles this coat&#8217;s so hot so it has a very different sound actually the\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow here to the snow in say Alaska or Canada because it&#8217;s so much colder and drier there\u00a0<br \/>\nit crunches the snow doesn&#8217;t go anywhere it just powders away you can&#8217;t make snowballs\u00a0<br \/>\nwith it here it&#8217;s wet big chunky snowflakes that you can easily make snowballs out of cuz\u00a0<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s a lot of water content so the sound is different doesn&#8217;t have that crisp\u00a0<br \/>\ncrunchy sound that I got in Alaska or Canada what a camp only one failure okay it&#8217;s a pretty big\u00a0<br \/>\nfailure to be honest but only one failure a pole snap but the main structure no\u00a0<br \/>\nproblem at all look you can see the bend look at that that&#8217;s where it&#8217;s bent\u00a0<br \/>\nthis pole here so that pole&#8217;s ruined the whole thing&#8217;s ruined really because\u00a0<br \/>\nyou got to undo it all rethread it and\u00a0\u00a0 everything else what I&#8217;m thinking is\u00a0<br \/>\ntwo poles cuz this sleeve can take two poles so two poles in and you attach\u00a0<br \/>\na clip on each different side of the pole two poles would hold it\u00a0<br \/>\nwhy didn&#8217;t they supply it with two poles or even mention two poles i\u00a0<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t get it i don&#8217;t understand that anyway enough winging about that so\u00a0<br \/>\nthis is the air vent I had open all night can see in but I had uh the it was\u00a0<br \/>\nventing on the top as well it&#8217;s a great tent i really like this tent if I hadn&#8217;t\u00a0<br \/>\nput the vestibule on I wouldn&#8217;t have had\u00a0\u00a0 a failure at all but it&#8217;s good to test these\u00a0<br \/>\nthings this vestibule is over $1,000 a,000 US just for that vestibule and the first bit of\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow 3 in of snow 4 in 5 in 4 in of snow and it broke i know I&#8217;m going on about it but\u00a0<br \/>\nyou know I hate gear failures i just do so the Stony Creek jacket that leaked like a\u00a0<br \/>\nsea was soaked inside gear failure hate it and now this over $1,000 snapped pole nightmare white waffles right time for waffles my trusty waffle maker by\u00a0<br \/>\nBreville this thing is so good okay so what we need to do is\u00a0<br \/>\nfirst I need to check you can see me it&#8217;s suddenly got really bright i&#8217;ve got to\u00a0<br \/>\nshow you this look at this look at that how majestic and there&#8217;s a peak start making a lot of noise okay i&#8217;ve got Edmund&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nbuttermilk pancake mix just fill it up to the line i&#8217;ve been making waffles or\u00a0<br \/>\npancakes at camp on these videos for YouTube I guess for 5 years now might have made this a bit too runny it&#8217;s cuz there&#8217;s this last bit\u00a0<br \/>\nthat doesn&#8217;t want to go out come on i always end up with this bit but that will thicken okay we just wait for\u00a0<br \/>\nthis to heat up and we&#8217;re good to go i got some delicious Queen pure Canadian maple syrup all\u00a0<br \/>\nrighty wait for the bing while this is doing it I was just checking my battery i&#8217;ll bring\u00a0<br \/>\nit up on the screen uh but it&#8217;s about 66% now um and it&#8217;s showing the state of charge that\u00a0<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve got a few hours left running it like this\u00a0\u00a0 but still having 66% after having run everything\u00a0<br \/>\nyesterday fridge diesel heater lights all sorts and the Starlink which was heating that&#8217;s great\u00a0<br \/>\nso I&#8217;ve got 300 amp battery here two batteries they&#8217;re also the new heated type so they\u00a0<br \/>\ncan recharge when I start the truck up\u00a0\u00a0 otherwise they won&#8217;t charge if they get\u00a0<br \/>\nto zero but currently they&#8217;re running at like 2\u00b0 yeah loads of power right we\u00a0<br \/>\nshouldn&#8217;t be long now until we get our ding there it is okay don&#8217;t overfill it Tony i think I do it every time all right it&#8217;s lifting all right so I wait\u00a0<br \/>\nfor that the toilet if you hold it all night\u00a0<br \/>\nyour body&#8217;s got to keep that warm so it uses a lot of energy and you&#8217;ll get cold quite quickly\u00a0<br \/>\nso pea bottle to the rescue i know people don&#8217;t want to hear about these things but that&#8217;s how\u00a0<br \/>\nyou do it you got to go otherwise you will get\u00a0\u00a0 cold in the night right this shouldn&#8217;t take long\u00a0<br \/>\nall right we&#8217;ve had a beep oh look at that perfect wower oh come on oh my goodness all right bit of maple\u00a0<br \/>\nsyrup got to slather that on waffle at 950 m in the snow check it out with maple syrup oh this is going to be good i&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\nforgotten my fork so spoon will do oh yeah I got to put another one on have to got to be dumb that&#8217;s so good oh why don&#8217;t I have waffles more often okay everyone i&#8217;m going to\u00a0<br \/>\nhave another waffle and then I&#8217;ll bring you back inside for one more\u00a0<br \/>\ncoffee and out of here i&#8217;m sure we can there&#8217;s just no way there&#8217;s enough snow here i know\u00a0<br \/>\nthey say the road is closed won&#8217;t be closed they&#8217;ll have opened it by the time I&#8217;m all\u00a0<br \/>\npacked up and ready to go definitely because\u00a0\u00a0 there&#8217;s just not enough snow to justify it and\u00a0<br \/>\nit causes such disruption and it&#8217;s a week day what is today i don&#8217;t even know what today is but\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s a week day so they won&#8217;t keep it closed for long so the reason I put the yeah heater\u00a0<br \/>\nback on is it just helps dry things out a bit and also I was getting a bit chilly i can\u00a0<br \/>\nfeel the heat from that thing immediately it&#8217;s incredible yeah so I&#8217;ve really thought about\u00a0<br \/>\nit two poles that&#8217;s the way to fix this two of these poles so I&#8217;m going to ask Hillerberg\u00a0<br \/>\nuh to send me two new poles to make up for this uh and then I think that will be perfect just the\u00a0<br \/>\nweight it just couldn&#8217;t handle it uh there&#8217;s such thin poles you know and it&#8217;s such an expensive\u00a0<br \/>\nvestibule i want this thing to work and I want\u00a0\u00a0 to know that I can go out in somewhere like\u00a0<br \/>\nMars on the top and it can take the storm but right now the way it is it can&#8217;t take the storm\u00a0<br \/>\nno way all right last coffee and then we&#8217;ll do packown ah beautiful right it&#8217;s that time time\u00a0<br \/>\nI dread every single time and that is packup time so I&#8217;ve just turned the\u00a0<br \/>\nheating off and it was 15\u00b0 C up here and it&#8217;s like 2\u00b0 down here big difference\u00a0<br \/>\nright as usual I will fast forward pack up starting from now okay all done except for the\u00a0<br \/>\ntent the big piece look at this wow so spooky with the mist that&#8217;s the\u00a0<br \/>\nfreezing air coming down it&#8217;s getting colder so two things I got to do i got to pack\u00a0<br \/>\nthe tent away and I got to clear the truck so I can see where I&#8217;m going it&#8217;s all empty in\u00a0<br \/>\nhere so what I&#8217;ve got to do is go around and just kick the snow away a bit all around the\u00a0<br \/>\nedges like that just to make it easy to get to everything believe me it&#8217;ll make it a lot easier and then you see here where it&#8217;s built up okay almost there quite a big bit here i&#8217;m getting wet in here showered with condensation right and then there&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\nnothing else to do in here really it&#8217;s all clear there&#8217;s no pockets or anything\u00a0<br \/>\ni&#8217;ll undo this vent just so it the air can come out through here easily actually\u00a0<br \/>\nyou know what i can&#8217;t do that cuz it&#8217;s raining it&#8217;s snowing it&#8217;s doing\u00a0<br \/>\nsomething right take the bag out we got to pull all the pegs out and then take all the poles off we used a lot of pegs all right that&#8217;s all the pegs so now I&#8217;ve got to undo it all in the\u00a0<br \/>\nsame order so backwards so vestibule pole first so I&#8217;m going to do this without breaking it\u00a0<br \/>\nfurther okay so this is the vestibule pole bag uh okay i&#8217;m not going to detach the vestibule\u00a0<br \/>\nfrom the tent i&#8217;m going to keep it all together because I think it will all\u00a0<br \/>\nwrap up together anyway quite easily wow the bend in this pole\u00a0<br \/>\nlook at that it&#8217;s pretty extreme oh my oh and the end has fallen off the\u00a0<br \/>\nother end now what oh because the elastic&#8217;s all gone wow it&#8217;s just completely\u00a0<br \/>\ncollapsed cuz all the elastic is now shredded oh man what a mess look at that that&#8217;s all the elastic and the pole yeah oh well two poles next time\u00a0<br \/>\npetra if you&#8217;re listening to this the vestibule needs two poles not one just\u00a0<br \/>\nsaying 4 in of snow isn&#8217;t a lot all right now the rest of the poles so oh actually we got\u00a0<br \/>\nto take the roof vent off first my fingers are going to\u00a0<br \/>\nget very cold i know someone&#8217;s going to say wear gloves but I just\u00a0<br \/>\nlose all mobility if I wear gloves so the roof vent this thing the leaking last\u00a0<br \/>\nnight is because where the pole goes through the sleeve look no seam sealant it&#8217;s not\u00a0<br \/>\nseam sealed so that just leaked completely the only thing I could do cuz I can&#8217;t really\u00a0<br \/>\nseam it on the inside I&#8217;m going to have to put uh some sealant on the outside of it\u00a0<br \/>\nwhich is never really what you want\u00a0\u00a0 to do cuz it won&#8217;t last very long that\u00a0<br \/>\nway but I don&#8217;t have any other choice really right poles lots and\u00a0<br \/>\nlots of unclipping to do now so we started the last one we did was the blue pole right now getting this out of this pole this this sleeve is going to be\u00a0<br \/>\ntricky because it&#8217;s right on the top you don&#8217;t really want to have to pull it out one down 1 million to go okay so the red ones were next these poles are insanely long oh let&#8217;s see if I can feed it through there we go okay that wasn&#8217;t so\u00a0<br \/>\nbad actually for a pack down the worst bit was just emptying everything out of the\u00a0<br \/>\ntent the actual tent itself that&#8217;s not so bad can you imagine how long this\u00a0<br \/>\nis going to take me to dry this tent out i mean the lockup that I\u00a0<br \/>\nrent is big but I can&#8217;t fit this What a pole look at that holy poly come on cold hands all done what a great tank what a\u00a0<br \/>\ngreat pack this thing&#8217;s a beast great success now we&#8217;re going to clear the truck oh yeah all looking good all secure fridge is secure locked all right need to clear the windscreen i\u00a0<br \/>\nthink first of all we&#8217;re going to start her up i need a broom all right that&#8217;ll do let&#8217;s get out of here [Music] and we&#8217;re off right all right you have to excuse the fan noise i see people around they&#8217;re\u00a0<br \/>\nprobably wondering how come I&#8217;m here they&#8217;ve walked here from the hotel [Music] no one has driven in at all not even the ranger i&#8217;m the only one who is allowed to drive Virgin Road Snow look at that awesome and there&#8217;s the hotel i don&#8217;t know if you can make it out on the right hand\u00a0<br \/>\nside the Hermitage Hotel that&#8217;s where everybody is that&#8217;s where they&#8217;ve\u00a0<br \/>\nhad to walk from cuz they&#8217;re not allowed in what a beautiful day [Music] what a great camp now I&#8217;m assuming the gate&#8217;s going\u00a0<br \/>\nto be closed at the end of this road heat heat [Music] there it is on the right hand side the\u00a0<br \/>\nHermitage Hotel at Mount Cook excellent yep gates are closed all right so I&#8217;ve got to pop\u00a0\u00a0 out open the gates and then we can go\u00a0<br \/>\noh and then I got to close them again [Music] i hope they&#8217;re not locked let&#8217;s\u00a0<br \/>\ndouble check they shouldn&#8217;t be locked there&#8217;s a queue of people looking at me\u00a0<br \/>\non the right hand side wondering if they\u00a0\u00a0 can go in look I&#8217;ll show you all look at all\u00a0<br \/>\nthese people they all want to come in but it&#8217;s closed sorry everyone you won&#8217;t make it won&#8217;t make it no\u00a0<br \/>\ntoo much snow up there is avalanche warning well you heard all that that guy uh\u00a0<br \/>\nsounded Korean I think anyway he wanted to get up to uh where I slept the night and he also\u00a0<br \/>\nwanted to go to Celitan steps which is 1,000 steps and it goes up to the tops uh unfortunately\u00a0<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s no way up there without snow you can&#8217;t make it uh too difficult too dangerous and without\u00a0<br \/>\nsnow chain uh snowshoes definitely can&#8217;t make it right we&#8217;re on our way out of here i&#8217;ll bring\u00a0<br \/>\nyou back when we get to the lake to say our goodbyes oh that&#8217;s chilly all right everybody\u00a0<br \/>\nhere we are at the end of the lake what a view unfortunately you can&#8217;t see Mount Cook at all\u00a0<br \/>\nit&#8217;s clogged in it was starting to snow again back up there but what a beautiful area and\u00a0<br \/>\nlook you can see all this weather&#8217;s about to come in as well that&#8217;s going to be snow and rain\u00a0<br \/>\ncomplete mixture well thanks for coming on this place called Hanma Springs uh and then driving off to a high altitude alpine\u00a0<br \/>\nlake uh where we&#8217;re going to do a wild camp not really a wild camp it&#8217;s a car camp but I
