This is Rofalmonger, my friends. This one is a doozy. So, you&#8217;re probably aware of the latest DLC character coming to Guilty Gears Drive. That is Unika, who is also featured heavily in the anime Dual Rulers. And there&#8217;s been a little bit of an oopsy as far as leaks go. And not so much like, well, there&#8217;s a piece of footage that shouldn&#8217;t be out there. It&#8217;s evil Japan right now. the characters playable and they asked for no cameras or footage like and that was always an escape anyways, but this is a bit bigger than that as the entire source code for Guilty Gear Strive has leaked and from that well a lot of things not the least of which is Unica is, you know, fully playable and seeable before any trailers even out and so is Lucy from Cyberpunk who is a good deals away. And well, we&#8217;ll get into it. There&#8217;s more stuff going on. So, first off, no, I&#8217;m not here to provide you any links to this. Uh, I&#8217;m here to report the news as it is. As far as I can tell, this source code leaking is a criminal matter as uh there was a hacker and an inside man at Arc System Works. And what leaked out was some older beta builds and the actual game&#8217;s source code in full with a lot of assets from this year. So obviously not ideal if you are Arc System Works. So what&#8217;s everything that&#8217;s going on here basically? Well, there&#8217;s Unica. You can uh apparently just boot up the Unreal editor and just kind of go like actually like you can just get into the game and play unreleased content. So uh this is why I mean the leaks kind of scary here in fighting game land. Usually a leak is like, &#8220;Oh, a trailer got out a bit early.&#8221; Or, you know, &#8220;Someone said something they&#8217;re not supposed to versus boot up the actual game and play unreleased characters and view more things behind the scene at that.&#8221; Like, I saw the one thing and they said Unica, they were not showing uh gameplay. They were not allowing, you know, photography and video at EVO Japan cuz they&#8217;re worried about spoilers because the anime is not done yet and the character has spoiler moves. And I unfortunately saw one of those spoiler moves and kind of yeah, I guess I don&#8217;t know everything that&#8217;s happening, but if you have even a cursory understanding of Guilty Gear and its characters, uh there&#8217;s definitely some spoilery stuff going on there. So, uh surprise, sort of ruined. Uh once again, I&#8217;m just here to report the news, so I&#8217;m not showing it here, but yeah, it&#8217;s once again, it&#8217;s a big deal. And once again, big deal. It&#8217;s not just Unica. If it was just a character that was coming out later this month, sucks. But well, there&#8217;s Lucy. Uh, apparently mostly finished version of Lucy is also a part of this and she&#8217;s much further down the line. So that double sucks. And once again, this isn&#8217;t just a building. The source code itself has leaked and that has some potentially major repercussions. Like the fact that it&#8217;s all out there and you can boot it up in Unreal Editor apparently means you can just build your own Guilty Gears drive because all the assets and all the code is right there. like this tweet from Hackdev. I do gamedev in Unreal and this is huge. You can port the game to different systems now. You can easily make your own character by using the code as a template. You can just compile a completely different game if you want. Never seen before. And uh terminology here, Beyond Cooked. I don&#8217;t keep up with the kids these days, but Beyond Cooked doesn&#8217;t sound very good to me. That sounds like kind of a bad thing. So, it would seem that very potentially in the future, you could see other like actual games release using stolen code or stolen assets straight from Strive. Certainly a thing that&#8217;s happened in the past with other games. And once again, uh this very much seems like it&#8217;s a criminal matter. Uh cuz uh it was certainly not intentional that this stuff got out there. And of course, with stuff getting out there, people can poke around the files. And one thing that seems to be getting out there, uh, this one actually is a non-starter, though. So, uh, there is a lot of code in the game going all the way back to season 1. We&#8217;ve covered a lot of data mining for this game back in the day when the game was newer, right? There is a lot of code and characters for the game from Exard. And a lot of people are reading, well, all these Exard characters are here, so this is guaranteed season five characters and maybe not so much. Ren, who I very much consider an expert on these things as far as like data mining in the FGC goes, says this is just all old code that&#8217;s been there since the start. So, take that as it is. Like all the way back at the start, even like Super Saiyan Goku from Dragon Ball Fighters was in the files and in the code, right? So, uh just cuz the characters there doesn&#8217;t mean they&#8217;re necessarily guaranteed to be DLC. There needs to be a little bit more meat on the bone. Although there is some credible stuff in those files pointing that yes, there will be a season 5 and of course there would. Strive is a successful game. So all righty, we got a whole roller coaster of stuff going on and there is more and unfortunately potentially from a security point of view as it&#8217;s been well known in the past. Guilt Gear Strive has had some issues with online security. You might remember the whole hacker man saga which lasted way too long. And uh since people have access to the actual source code itself, people are worried that a wide variety of uh system breaches or security breaches could be possible. I&#8217;m definitely not wellversed on that end of things. All I know is Arc System Works has not had the best track record on that and this certainly won&#8217;t make it any easier at the very least, right? doesn&#8217;t make things better for him on that front. Potentially, a malicious actor could use the source code to just kind of deep dive in and figure out any uh security flaws and then mess with people and their online states. But then again, potentially maybe nothing, right? Uh certainly not my area of expertise. But yeah, all in all, like all this like it definitely sucks for Arc System Works. Like there&#8217;s no other way to put it. This is not ideal. like even just your next DLC character being playable somehow, that&#8217;s already a disaster and a half than the next one that&#8217;s supposed to come out way later also uh being fully exposed to the internet and like people being able to look at the move sets and all that. I once again I don&#8217;t think Lucy is 100% complete but obviously like the model&#8217;s done and some of the animations are done and Unico was supposed to be extra secret to you know protect the sanctity of the anime uh and its plot and well yeah that that just sucks and then of course the files the source code getting out there it&#8217;s going to be a lot of stuff. Uh this I do want to put out here just as a PSA again I&#8217;m not here to provide you no links and no source code that stuff is illegal for sure. You might be able to build your own game now with all these stolen code and assets and all that. Probably not the best idea, though. This is definitely something Papa Arc System Works will be latigious about and will come after you about. So, I&#8217;m here to report the news of the situation cuz uh this I think is very newsworthy. But maybe look don&#8217;t touch is what I&#8217;m trying to say here. Uh but once again, this is disastrous. It&#8217;s like as someone you know follows the fighting game news, this is uh the biggest disaster to happen for a fighting game company in a good long while. To say it&#8217;d be frustrating for Arc System Works is uh certainly underelling it by a good amount. The thing I&#8217;ll say is Una looks cool. Like I look forward to the character coming out on the 27th. I think it&#8217;s really cool that Guilty Gear is still going strong after all this time.
