It is based on the novel Perfect Blue: Complete Metamorphosis (\u30d1\u30fc\u30d5\u30a7\u30af\u30c8\u30d6\u30eb\u30fc\uff1a\u5b8c\u5168\u5909\u614b, P\u0101fekuto Bur\u016b: Kanzen Hentai) by Yoshikazu Takeuchi, with a screenplay written by Sadayuki Murai. Featuring the voices of Junko Iwao, Rica Matsumoto, Shiho Niiyama, Masaaki Okura, Shinpachi Tsuji and Emiko Furukawa, the plot follows a member of a Japanese idol group who retires from music to pursue an acting career.
