DUAL RULERS – Was The GUILTY GEAR anime Worth It?
[Music] Oh yeah, the anime world. I don’t understand if the opening is in English or Japanese. 10 out of 10. That’s pretty much like Guilty Gear. Now Kashito, I love you. Before we talk about the animation, let’s go for the artistic point of view. Yeah, the designs are even more anime and simplified than the owns in the video game. They are more akin to the models used during the fights instead of the close-ups, even having more familiarity with the art style of exert X. This probably is not only to have an easier time animating their faces while also letting them to be more expressive during all the screaming like anushu series. If we compare it to this type story mode, we’ll see that they are in opposite directions because one is more cartoonish and dramatic. Meanwhile, the other is more realistic and with a more introspectic tone. Their art styles fit their respective stories. They also tend to show this sketchy traditional style, greedy even pictures to represent certain scenes. Sometimes at the end of the episode and other times to showcase the abilities of a character instead of showing an animation. It helps them save time and resources, I guess, while also showing the impact of an scene. I’d say they are weak when it comes to flashbacks. But for the intense moments, they can elevate them if they are used for short periods of time. Like Uncle Soul fight with those unique and hollowike creatures. The issue is that the more often that there I use or together with others of the same kind, they end up looking like a slideshow. And since they are so sketchy, it can give the impression to some people that they were done rush. But to me, that’s just an artistic choice because then we have ones like the moment I scene was about to become justice or something. The ones used in this moment were really doing its purpose and they were not taking that much time. So, it’s a 50/50 to be honest. I love them because they remind me of old school anime like Hiuk sensei new the eldest Pokémon or Yoyo Hagushu where they did this still friends when there was a need for a more dramatic focus. So, it’s the same here. Other one of the best uses of this 2D image was when they told the love story of Dizzy and Key with a fairy tale like illustration and a narration. It was really beautiful and creative like a like a fantasy book and they are definitely better and more appealing than whatever they did before the grand beam battle outside of Nerville score where Ram and the others were against those slimy ugly creatures like that one I seen really looked so cheap like recall of Ragnarok or whatever that that one was called. It was just a bunch of screenshots which is a real shame. But the rest of the episode had some really good scene. And we also had El being the world ending rockstar that she is and that was great. Then after that you have fastpaced action sequences with lots of dynamic angles with the camera. [Music] Like for real, the camera direction in this show is actually pretty good in the most intense intense intense whatever. One of the show stronger points was the action. Like it was always over the top and exaggerated. So even if they had to work over the top, they really poured their efforts into making the attacks of the show as colorful and impactful as the ones in the video game. And the fights as a whole are full of this action. So, props to the people that work on it. It kind of reminded me of the fights in the XRD story mode. Maybe the choreography could have been better because it’s mostly just spamming combos and heavy attacks most of the time. Maybe something like the Slayer versus Bedman fight could have been great, but their fights were still great. Except the ones with these Nerville blobs. Those were just repetitive and annoying since Nerville has this really ugly design that in my opinion is the worst villain in the franchise and artistic wise too. Then he becomes a godly like horror picture out of a crappy basta that I don’t know how to take because we know that he’s like that due to experiments he did on his puppet doctor. And this spokey appearance is really good artistic wise. I guess many feeling uncomfy. That was the point. But besides that, shall we really believe that he reached that appearance just out of experimenting on himself with your DNA? It’s like there’s a step we are not being told because he became feels like it had something more going on which makes me not believe him. Like as far as I know, most godly like creatures have the connection with the back jarans and the universal will. So I don’t know. It’s like he didn’t do much to reach this level or something believable. Sometimes the more handdraw backgrounds clash too much with the 3D models. Especially in the first episode with Sin running away from that bird with the trees and the grass all looking too. and the border lines around scenes model kind of make it stand out even more than the others. But as the series went on, this became less of a problem. Still, it was clearly noticeable. And that takes me to how the characters interact with their surroundings. Everything feels dead most of the time because when you see a 3D model, you know that character will be appearing often and the rest are your going to be oneoff NPCs that remain still most of the time. that makes the Guilty Gear characters look like alien to all of them. The first scenes with Nerville interacting with DC sing and key were kind of offputting that and a bunch of others. In my opinion, they should also give them bolder lines just like the 3D models do not create this visual artistic dissonance between characters. There’s also this scene in the final episode where we see Elf and the rest of the characters in the wedding photo where El is crying and it’s hard to tell what’s 3D and what isn’t like only Yonyi and Bon look kind of 3D here. I wish more scenes look like this to be honest. Even if the models more Yanky sometimes, they still have life and that’s something I’m grateful for. It’s not the level of Haki nooni or triong stampede where they had human movements and rotoscopy to manage to to give this realistic impression. But it’s enough for us to believe that these characters are people inside their stories. And maybe with more time with the project, we could have seen more inepth writing for these characters because what we see in the series is mostly just a few layers of them. And for people who are new to the franchise, they are not going to get much of the dialogues in the series or the interactions. I really wanted a Gigi anime to be able to see these characters have more in depth interactions and see their growth, but there was not much time for that and not a proper story for that to take place. Take chapter 4 for example. After the intense fight between Unika and Sin, she’s hit by Saul’s bullet like a true American. He shots her and in the other side Tin is left unconscious trying to save her by activating his king of gear’s power. After this, the next chapter lacks action and is more slow paced. We see how everything that’s happening might be affecting the world. How gears might be reacted once more and how Sin has a huge responsibility now that he understands Spiken and Jony’s words better. More episodes like this could have done wonders to a show that mostly only focus on the action rather than telling us more about these characters. Unika sings are the stars of the show and surprisingly we must only hear Unika scream. A complete shame because her character is pretty interesting. She’s basically a parallel to Hamlet Little and Efeld and of course of her being of sin in a different circumstance. And this is also the time we see her motivation waiver, the loneliness she and her father felt. It can be filled not only with friends, but she also has to find her own shape and focus on the present herpedium. [Music] We do see a bit of this depth I was talking about in some other scenes like when Frederick has to take charge and hurt his own grandson. He doesn’t say much but is clear he’s going through the pain of having to sacrifice for the world. And where does that leave him? Does he always have to suffer just for everyone else to live in a peaceful life? Meanwhile, he has to endure all the pain. It was a great moment and I wish we could have seen more of scenes like this with less dialogue and more subtext but the narrator had to come in and often explain multiple stuff not only for the people newer to the series but also to fill certain gaps that they lack of animation couldn’t really show in the story still I don’t see newcomers getting into guilty girl throughout this anime just because some scenes or the adults may feel weaker due to not having previous context of what the characters had gone through. Like Saul’s resolve at the end of the series was great. When he finally decided to go to the wedding of his daughter and how she held him crying, that was really beautiful. This series needed way more chapters and a better use of his time. Sadly, we will never be able to know how messy the development behind the scene was because let’s be honest, it’s not an anime if there are not problems in the production. Can you imagine what the reaction of this key could have been after learning about Unika that could have made the hug that the king gave to her daughter from the future even more impactful than it was. It’s a short series that at first it felt like I really wanted to tell a greater story than what it ended up being telling. It’s just a promotional anime or extra material for the fans to enjoy and maybe a sneak peek to the future of the franchise with Unika and Sing taking the main roles. And in that sense, I’m really happy they fit their role really well. sin has been built up of the perfect lead character for the franchise taking from so key and dizzy into his personality and with unica despite being just introduced and already having many things that would sing took way more time she also has the potential to be a great second main character. I wish we could have seen more of her character more of her in a more slice of life setting to be able to see more layers of her. Now we wait for the stories that will be told with her. And I’m excited because I really like her potential as a new character. Wish we saw more of that though through interaction with other characters like with Bacon being able to connect with Unika’s hatred for Gears and show her how living in all that hatred will only blind her from the light and stray away her path into one of self’s destruction. All that stuff will have been good to see. Not only for the X running, it could have increased the complexity of Unika as a character. Can you imagine being revealed that you are something that you were always taught to hate? It’s a huge shock for your psyche, resonating with the worst of having to find your own shape. If I am what I hate, then what I can love. It’s an internal conflict we don’t see, even if it could have been made a lot of sense for her result. and separating from her father. Either Viking or Ramal Kong has been a good character to interact with Unika. A character can become a multi-layered one depending on how they interact with each other. It’s something we really needed. Yet again, that brings the question, why will the US government hire a bounty hunter instead or Yana or even use Gold in the show for something? Like where’s Gold Lewis in the White House scenes? They even made a 3D model for Leo and all he did was talk in song meetings. More focus on the characters on the cast that you are using could have been better rather than just poor action which don’t get me wrong the action as I have said was the best part of the series but this franchise has more than that to offer. There’s a reason why story modes are movies, you know, which I don’t think should be that way, but there’s a space for it to be that way. The cast they choose besides all seeing Unika and Bridget where the others really explore or where they really needed to appear. It’s like most of them could have been replaced and that shouldn’t have been the case because as I have said, Bacon, Rob Mlet, and could have done so much for Unika’s character development. They were used as dolls by their mothers. The two Valentines devoid of any human enjoyment. They still managed to change and humanize themselves themselves. I mean the new mind gear was treated like a mer puppet. How do you surpass that drama in less than a day when most of your life you were supporting someone who off love you back that only wanted the best for the world? How did you manage to stand strong and look at yourself into the mirror after such revelation? Sadly, in order to force Unika to act, they had to use Bridget as the woman in the fridge. A literary trope where a girl is harmed just used to motivate in most cases the male character. In this case, it’s not 100% the same because that trope is often used as something sexist. It wasn’t due to sex scenes or anything like that here, but it served the same purpose as Bridget is literally forgotten after all of this happens. Despite she being the one that also helped in Unika’s character change, I kind of went off track. What I wanted to conclude with is that this show is just a promotional anime, nothing too serious or ambitious, which is a shame because with all the second crusade stuff, you think it will be really big for the series at least, but it is what it is. I did enjoy it, but I don’t see myself remembering much from it or wanting to watch it again. I do hope this opens the door for more Guilty Gear anime though, even adaptation of the previous games. I think that will be for the best and I love to see that. Maybe not with animation, more like the xx opening. One can only dream. Yeah. Like always, I thank the Monday supporters. Thanks to abolition brea mindless freedom silver zero metal sonic dash player unknown se and element intervention for your constant support. Yeah, I’m really happy and grateful and and I love you lots. [Music] that I found. I didn’t [Music]
Moonlight! The awkard Grim Reaper that is trying to learn english and doing art, instead of doing reaper stuff! (low cost)
okay so, the guilty gear anime, dual rulers ended pretty quickly, and i wanted to talk about it since, it’s kinda, weird. So, i did enjoyed it but there are some issues and stuff that could have been done way better.

05:18 Ohhhhhhh! You just put into words why part of the show looks off putting to me at times! I never really noticed before, but I thought something looked off. It's weird cause some parts are well animated and look cool and others less so. I just chalked it up to a budget/time thing.
The show really seems like a bit of a mixed bag from what I've seen. It seems to do some stuff well, has some neat ideas, and also some not so great stuff or stuff that needed more time/refinement, unfortunately.
