“Witch Watch” Japanese voice actors

Welcome to the deep dive. Okay, let’s jump right in. Today we’re going uh deep into the world of Japanese anime voice acting. Yes. Specifically focusing on a current show, Witchwatch. Exactly. We’re going to explore the Japanese voice actors, the VAS, bringing those characters to life. We’ve compiled a bunch of info on them so you can kind of connect the voices to well, not faces, but the characters and maybe some of their other big roles. It’s all about those aha moments, right? Recognizing a voice. But first, for anyone maybe not watching yet, Witchwatch. It’s this really fun, magical comedy from the creator of Sket Dance, Kandashahara. So, it has that uh similar feel, humor, but also some serious action sometimes and that dynamic between the main characters, Nico, the witch, and Moryo, her protector. Some budding romance there, too. Definitely. And like you said, that sketance vibe helping people out, but also loads of little homages and parodies of other uh jump series. Oh, yeah. Super fun for manga fans. You’ll spot little mods everywhere. It keeps things interesting. It really does. Like maybe something feels a bit Hunter X Hunter or you see a background that kind of reminds you of Demon Slayer. Little Easter eggs. Totally. And hey, if jumping straight into the anime feels like a lot, there is a voice comic version right on YouTube. It’s all in Japanese though, so you need like the auto translate captions, but it’s an option. Okay, so let’s get into this amazing cast. Starting with the main duo, Niko Wakatsuki, the witch herself. She’s voiced by Reena Kabaguchi. Now, she might be familiar to some as Iugaruka in the Idolmancer, shiny colors, right? And she was in that Ail project group, too. It’s interesting cuz um sometimes fans might feel a bit of a disconnect maybe between her idol image and Nico. Well, it shows range, right? Moving between genres. and her idle master character, Ruka, wasn’t actually in the latest Idle Master anime series itself. Ah, okay. So, unless you’re really into the game, maybe you wouldn’t know her from that specifically. Possibly. But here’s a really neat thing happening in Japan right now. Commercials for the Idle Master game featuring Kawaguchi’s character are airing during the Witchwatch broadcast slots. No way. Seriously? Yeah. Likely because she’s starring in Witchwatch. Yeah. And apparently it’s getting a lot of chatter online, especially from Idol Master fans noticing it. Huh. That’s pretty cool. Shows how interconnected things are. She’s also currently in uh Himitsu. No, I pre idol show. Yep. Voicing Roku Eru. So definitely leans into those idol themed projects quite often. Okay. Now for Morihito toi, the stoic guardian, the straight man to Nikico’s antics. Yeah. He’s voiced by Rice to Suzuki. People might know him from uh Brave Bang Brevern as Aisami Sami or maybe Uric Kamate and tying the knot with an Emagami Sister. And what’s funny is in both of those he’s kind of the straight man too. Huh. Seems he’s got a knack for it. That dead pan delivery. He really does. It’s a specific kind of comedic timing. But he’s not just doing comedy. Oh yeah. Well, he recently voiced Hisuk Moshimo the sniper. Yeah. In that Sakamoto Day’s voice comic adaptation. Very cool character. Ah, nice. Versal. And right now he’s also Tuma Haragi in Windbreaker. So yeah, showing off different sides. Cool. Okay, moving beyond the main two, we’ve got Koni Kazmatsuri, the Tangu, voiced by Kuhei Amasaki, who uh people might remember as Haru Yaguchi in High Score Girl. Great show. Loved High Score Girl. Or uh Will Surfer in Wtoria one and sword, right? The magic school one. And here’s a fun fact about scheduling. Play it out. Wtori airs on the same Sunday slot as Witchwatch and it’s getting a second season. So maybe it’ll air right after Witchwatch finishes its run. Could happen, huh, interesting timing. Amasaki’s also been in Formagio recently and he’s playing an evil prince this season in the two perfect saint. But the best part about him voicing Kani Kani speaks with a kai dialect, right? And Amasaki himself, he’s from Osaka. Oh, that’s perfect. You can probably hear that authenticity adds so much. Totally. Okay, next. Kigo Magami, classmate voiced by Kaido Ishiawa. I mean, this guy’s everywhere. Seriously, obvious one is Tobio Kagayyama. Hey, hang in the court. An absolute classic role, but also completely different. Sakura Azu Sagawa in the Rascal does not dream series. Much more understated. Yeah. Dealing with all that weird puberty syndrome stuff. She has his range. And hey, good news for Rascal fans, right? Oh, yeah. The new University Arc anime is coming this summer. People are hyped. Nice. Ishiawa also did uh Kiyoka Kudu in My Happy Marriage. Beautiful show. And he’s currently in From Old Country Pumpkin to Master Swordsman. So yeah, busy talented guy for sure. And rounding out that initial core group, Nemo Meow, the transformation witch, voiced by Tamori Kuseninoi. And I mean, if you know Chainsaw Man, Makima, yep. Instantly recognizable, chilling performance. Totally. And the Chainsaw Man movie, The Rescue, right? Yep. Can’t wait for that. Kuseninoi really made a splash with Makima. She did. But she’s done other big stuff too like LNN in Gunale online. Ah, the SAO spin-off, The Pink Blur. Exactly. And right now she’s Hanakos in Aharan Sanwauri. A much lighter comedic role. Wow. Okay. Makima Hanakos. That’s some serious range right there. Definitely showcases her versatility. All right, let’s shift to some of the supporting cast cuz there are some uh really big names here. Oh yeah. Let’s start with the teacher Yuri Makua. Turns out she’s a huge manga nerd. Voiced by Mikako Kumatsu. People might know her as Cure Seline from Star Twinkle Pecure or uh Maki Zenan from Jiu-Jitsu Kaizen. Very different energies there too. Definitely. But here’s an interesting tidbit. Connects back to that voice comic we mentioned. Kamasu actually voiced Nico in the YouTube voice comic version of Witchwatch. Ah, so if you watched that first then heard Nico in the anime, you might have noticed the change. That explains it exactly. Voice actor switch for the full anime adaptation. Happens sometimes. It does. Good detail to know. Okay, next student. Kukumi Udashino, voiced by Konomi Kohara. And here’s another connection. Kohara was also in Star Twinkle Pure with Kamasu. Huh. Small world in the VA industry, huh? Seems like it. And Kohara right now she’s the main heroin in Summer Pockets, the new key anime. Oh, right. Key stuff always hits you right in the fields. Usually looks gorgeous, too. Typically. Yeah, expect some emotional moments there. Okay, another classmate, Karamani. This is a big one. Ri Takahashi, huge Ihoshino and Oshino Co. I mean, what a role. Incredible performance. And also Cure Miracle in Maho girls procure. Wait, so that’s Takahashi, Komasu, and Kohara. That’s three voice actors from the Procure franchise in this cast. I know, right? It’s like a mini Procure reunion. That’s kind of funny. Must be a coincidence. Or maybe not. Who knows? Also just great to hear Ret Takahashi back and sounding fantastic after her throat surgery last year. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Glad she recovered well and is back doing what she does best. For sure. Okay, moving up the ladder. The student council president, we haven’t seen her properly yet. Tenri Kumia, voiced by Yoshiugu Matsuoka, the man, the legend. Belr from Dan Machu. Inoske from Demon Slayer. Kyito fromo. I mean, the list goes on. And speaking of Demon Slayer, that new movie is coming up soon, too. Right now, here’s another voice comic. connection. Guess who Matsuoka voiced in the Witch voice comic? Uh-oh, let me guess. Ki. Nope. He voiced Morito, the straight man. Get out. So, he went from playing Morito in the comic to the student council president who seems kind of goofy in the anime. Exactly. A complete role reversal. It’s fascinating stuff. That really shows their range being able to switch archetypes like that. Okay, the rest of the student council, brace yourself. This is like an all-star team. Seriously, the lineup is kind of nuts. Ibara Ibu, vice president. Miyuki Sawashiro, Kurrapika from Hunter X, Hunter, iconic syrup, the secretary, Rugia, Kagura from Gintentama, Sunder Queen, Legendary Status, Burst, Public Relations, Kentyak, All Might from My Hero Academia, Leo S Ultior, Daiki Sakai, Mark 2, General Affairs, the voice actor for Tian Shinhan in Dragon Ball, a veteran, Kuritsu, another secretary, Msaki Kuno, Hawk from Seven Deadly Sins. Wink. Yizuru Kimochi and other vice president. Jun Fukuyama. Cororo Sensei from Assassination Classroom. Delos. Unforgettable Voice. Rio Takumi the treasurer. Noro Hidaka. A Tendo from Ronma Half. A true classic. And Ketchki Psycho General Affairs. Jun Fukushima. Naruko from Yomushi Pedal. Wow. And get this. Jun Fukuyama who voices Kenmoi. He voiced Koni in the voice comic. Okay, my head’s spinning now with all the swaps and connections. This cast is stacked. It’s like a weekly shooting and jump hall of fame with some Sunday legends thrown in. Right. It really shows they pulled out all the stops for this adaptation. Speaks volumes about the manga’s popularity. Absolutely. You don’t assemble a cast like that lightly. Okay, nearly there. Let’s touch on family. Nico’s mom, Ibuki Wakatsuki, voiced by the amazing Nan Mizuki. Yes. Famous singer, famous VA Fate Tesserosa from Magical Girl Lyrical Nooa, which wow is celebrating its 20th anniversary. 20 years. Incredible. Mizuki also voiced Seiko in Dandadan last year, right? And Dandadon’s getting a season two this summer. Looking forward to that. It’s interesting. She was an older sister in Tying the Knot with an Amagami sister. Now she’s playing a mom here. Shows that career progression moving into different kinds of roles. Exactly. And Morita’s dad, Radio Ti, Katsuyuki Konishi, Tangenuzui, the Sound Hashira from Demon Slayer. Flamboyant. Can’t mistake that voice. And fun fact, Konishi is also currently in Uma Cinderella Gay. Oh, yeah. And Uma Musu airs right before Witchwatch in Japan. Huh. So some viewers get a backto-back Kenishi hour pretty much. Though sounds like his role as Ray might be pretty brief in Witchwatch. Still landing Konishi even for a smaller part. Again shows the production value. Definitely committed to quality across the board. Okay, finally looking ahead. Right. Witch is confirmed for two cores, roughly 6 months total, probably with a break, which means more characters are coming, specifically Miharu Kiru and Momo Kuramochi. Big additions to the story and their voice actors haven’t been announced yet. So, that’s something fans are uh eagerly waiting for. Probably closer to the second course starting. Builds that anticipation, right? Keeps people guessing. There’s even some online chatter. Pure speculation, though. Let me guess. Another voice comic connection. Maybe Yumiri Hanamorei voiced a character in the voice comic. Some fans are wondering if maybe she’ll get cast as Miharu or Momo. Ah, that would be neat if it happened, but yeah, just speculation for now. We’ll have to wait and see. It’s always fun to guess, though. Well, phew, that was quite the tour through the voices of Witchwatch. It really was. Yeah, it just highlights the incredible talent pool in Japanese voice acting. They bring so much life to these characters. Absolutely. their skill in conveying emotion, comedy, everything. It’s a huge part of why we love anime. Couldn’t agree more. Their performances are essential. Well, thanks so much for joining us on this deep dive today. I hope you found it interesting. Yeah, it was great digging into this aspect of the show.
