Hachiko, a dog who has become world famous for loyalty to his owner, was born 100 years ago on November 10, 1923. To celebrate his birthday in 2023, locals and foreigners alike have been queuing up to snap photos with a bronze statue of Hachiko in the Japanese capital Tokyo. For a century, Japan has retold the story of how the faithful hound waited at Shibuya station for his master to return home, returning every day even after the owner died.

  1. I think the Scot have similar story. For those interested, that dog has a statue in a cemetery where few known Harry Potter characters are buried. Greyfriars Bobby is the name and the cemetery is in Edinburg.

  2. I was able to visit this statue In Japan. Although not a dog my wife went there to honor her black cat Boo-boo who was her faithful companion for 19 years. Even when he went blind he always waited at the door for her to come home. Thank you Hachiko & Happy Birthday!

  4. HAPPY 100th Birthday HACHIKO 🥰 🐕🐶. Its so nice to know that they gave time to celebrate & commemorate Hachiko's Centennial Birthday 😊

  5. For the last 3 years I always look to hachiko to find my way home from Tokyo when I'm in a pinch. To this day he's never led me astray

  6. Hachiko and Richard Gere formed a wonderful pairing of dog and owner. I was teary-eyed during both the movie and the original story about Hachiko’s birth in Ueno, Tokyo. Hachi’s memory is still remembered after 100 years of his birth.

  7. 0:38 "People are crazy about dogs everywhere"

Not in the middle east. Some old heads still think dogs are vessels of demons or Djinn.

  8. Imagine going back in time to Tokyo on the morning of May, 21, 1925 as the professor was on his way to Shibuya Station with his beloved Hachiko. Imagine tugging him on the arm and saying:

"You don't know this but this is going to be your last day on the planet. Your dog Hachiko will come to the station everyday for the next 9 years in hopes of your return but to no avail. He will eventually die on these streets in search of you and due to his unmatched loyalty, he will become a national hero and a symbol to all Japanese of family loyalty and love. Mothers will tell their children the story of Hachiko for generations. Books will be written about him, movies will be made. Your dog will become the most famous dog in the world. For the next 100 years, people will travel from all over the world to visit this spot and to touch Hachi's statue. Professor Euno, take a look at him now. And as you look into his trusting eyes, know that your dog will have more of an influence on peoples' lives than most world leaders."
