  1. For Utena magical girls = idols and ideal magical girl will NEVER surrender to the enemy(she must overcome every obstacle and enemy, become stronger)
But Sayo "folded like a paper" which was very disappointing for Utena – hence "disgusted look" from Utena in the end.
I think this episode put interesting perspective on Utena as character.
    Sorry for bad english(i tried)
    Nice reaction, keep up!

  2. Each city has its own magical girls and Sayo felt like she failed, like she wasn't living up to the ideal of being a magical girl.

  3. Utena idolizes magical girls, and her heroes just failed her by willing to join the dark side (her lewding them is like pushing them to be better). BTW the animators did a few events in the episodes out of order compared to the manga due to pacing. That whole scene in ep 5 where Utena stays up all night fixing the doll happened AFTER she mind broke Sayo. She was torn about it and felt like fixing the doll could make up for it a little (kinda like putting out good vibes into the universe).

  4. This is about the comment you made regarding the size of Utena's head at the 2:23 mark. You mentioned how people in your comments section told you about "cleaning stuff up" and you watching the "DVD version". Regarding the former point, not every single frame in all the episodes got a cleanup. There were some animation error visuals/poorly drawn stuff in all 13 episodes of the TV broadcast that the animators failed to make changes to in the BD release. The Utena small head thing is one of those animation visual errors that still made it into the BD/DVD. The head size error was never corrected either due to human error or intentional overlooking of the situatio. There was a Redditor who posted a video highlighting all the visual corrections they were able to find in all 13 episodes. The head size thing was not one of those corrections listed in the video. It seems to me the Redditor did not include the head size thing in their visual comparison video because they felt that the head size error doesn't count as a visual correction, more like an unedited animation error

Also, your commentors were wrong about the latter part, the thing about you watching the DVD version. You are watching the Blu-ray version with English subtitles, not the DVD version. I have the Blu-ray discs for all 13 episodes. I looked at the quality of your Blu-ray files and I can say with certainty that the quality of your BD files match the quality of my Blu-ray discs.

  5. A Redditor posted scans of the booklets that come with the Blu-ray. The title for each post goes something like: "Gushing Over Magical Girls BD VOL 1/VOL 2/ VOL 3 BOOKLET (SCAN QUALITY)"

  6. I kind of wish they kept this line in the Blu Ray Release "There is Subverting Expectations, Then there is this B u l l s h i t" actually hits you like a truck
