Trigun Stampede just released its first episode a couple of days ago and Noah gives his thoughts and opinions on it. Stampede has a lot of potential and some big shoes to fill, with the first episode doing a fairly good job.

I give Trigun Stampede Episode 1 a:

01:38 – The Good
02:31 – The Stuff I’m Mixed About

  1. It seems like this version is made more for the Japanese audience since the original didn't do as well there as it did overseas.

  2. After halfway into the 2nd episode I've started to not like it. It feels more tame story wise compared to both Manga & the OG Anime. Even the Nebraska Family is just comes up "short" (if you watch it you'll know). This re-imagining might be fine for some one that has never seen nor read the original, but if you have you may be as disappointed as I was. The overall art is good, but the "new look" designs are good for some while just okay on others. I can see why everyone is mixed on the whole thing.

  3. I love the original series but doing comparison shots with the OG series….yea…it will DEFINITELY benefit from this remake. Trigun is such a brilliant concept it deserves a second try. Cowboy Bebop is so timeless it wouldn't benefit from a remake like Trigun would. The CG is done in a unique way that it manages to catch the eye..they are doing some unique things with it.

  4. Idk maybe nostalgia is getting the best of me, but I’m not digging the reboot. I’ll give it a chance though.

  5. Personally I didnt like the 90's style and didnt make past episode 3 of the OG anime. But I am absolutely in love with Stanpede. Studio Orange once again proving its the only studio that can be trustred with 3D anime.

About the redesigns. It makes sense. Lets be honest, the 90's style animation is considered ugly by many people, specially younger people that are used to more modern anime. I can garantee that if they kept the OG designs, most new watchers would probably ignore the anime. The same happened with Banana Fish for example. The new designs appeal more to a bigger audience, and it makes sense to do that instead of risk using old designs that could appeal only to old fans of the OG anime.

  6. pretty amazing visually but it tells you major secret plotpoints in the first episode, and i didnt see trigun so it basically spoiled me trigun

  7. I read "roberto" and was like "aye we got some latinos in this one!" so that gave it some bonus points.

also I agree with everything you said bro! Hope your channel gets big 😀

  8. I disagree that Vash feels like Vash. He has a silly nature to him, but it seems too forced and inorganic. His serious side isn't really showcased at all. When it is, it's quick cuts and back to silliness. At no point did I get the sense that Vash had a clumsy and lucky side like in the original. There's a lot more to gripe about, but one good thing about it is creature animation, I suppose. Oh, and the fact that he doesn't hide his arm is very odd considering the value of old tech. It lessens any mystique Vash has.

  9. I think anime onlys are being too harsh on this but maybe I'm just overly optimistic. I love the original anime but I want to see an adaptation that follows the manga more and this actually seems like it'll take a lot from the manga while adding in some new stuff.

  10. Good review i really like anime of old Trigun and i hope this new Trigun 2023 don't go far from changing the source material of the story. Thanks and keep up a good review

  11. I literally never heard or saw TRIGUN before this adaptation, and I have to say this anime has me HOOKED on the story, so you can at least confirm it’s bringing in new dans

  12. I actually hate the new Trigun. Vash is so tame and generic now. Not as mysterious or edgy, and all the funny gags are gone. The art direction and animation is poop. The backstory episode with Rem from the original was a masterpiece. That was my fav ep as well. I was so sad how rushed and uncreative Rem’s introduction was the first episode of this one. Also the dope ass soundtrack is all gone.

The only people that actually like the CGI animation are “land of lustrous” stans, and of course they are going to back up the studio that animated their under-appreciated show. In reality, the new Trigun looks like a mobile gacha game.

Im sure the story will be engaging to some people to some degree for those that can endure it or arent bothered by anything.

  13. I love the old show, and yet I'm fine with the first episode and the CGI, some things in it are nice in regards with movement/facial expression. At least they're committed with it rather than some other anime that implement a weird hybrid with 2D that is way too jarring (like only monster fights). While I do like the exploration of CGI and CGI animation (hell, I make 3D art), it misses part of the point of why I watch anime in the first place, I enjoy 2D art and animation as well. So, I hope it's not too much of a sign of the future pushing for it in the way that Disney movies all go 3D.

I'm uncertain with Vash's design changes. Sometimes it feels like it's not Vash anymore personality wise or looks. Look wise, especially with his hair, it's like giving Goku a flat top or emo style rather than keeping his unique spiky hair because it doesn't fit the tastes of people today? It's weird.

I do miss the dynamic of Meryl and Milly, someone taking things serious versus the more friendly approachable yet reliable character but both in over their heads as young reporters. The new guy is fine but its like a realist that has been around or has experience and drinks out the flask. He could just tell Meryl everything she needs to know because he's seen it all. This would work more with a buddy-cop dynamic the way their relationship are but they're just reporters or journalists, so it's strange.

Episode 2s remake of the story of the city after his bounty and fighting the Nebraska family was just so rushed to me. Little things like nonsensical behaviors by the woman too trying to run and pistol whip Gofsef got me scratching my head. It lost a lot of the tension, emotion and the personality with regards to Vash, the conflicts between their extreme views, and losing his view on sacrificing for life at all cost is gone. Sweeping it all under the rug and being friendly, as if they weren't shooting each other a moment ago, was strange as well. The show is losing me here.

I'll keep watching a bit more but so far I view it as a low average grade.

  14. It's very mid. It's not bad, but its just very mid. I don't mind the new Vash, he looks cool, has goofy mannerisms. The storytelling is very mid, just.. "Hello, I'm the narrator in the form of an old drunk character, let me tell you about things and ask the questions so you don't have to think for yourself audience." and the cluster bomb that fell for 5 hours really jarred me. I'll watch it for the action I guess.

  15. No Milly isn't anywhere near a deal breaker for me.

I was also worried with the change to 3d, but I can see the studio is putting alot of effort into this.

    7/10 double dollars so far

  16. Man I do not like that they felt the need to add Roberto De Niro in. Millie and Meryl already had a great dynamic where Meryl was more the lead and Millie was more like the rookie. For whatever reason, they felt the need to strip away this rare area where there was good female characters in an anime, add in this Roberto character (who seemingly is replacing Millie). Then, to make him look “cool” they diminish and destroy Meryl’s character so he can take on this cliche veteran role. I fucking hate what they did. Roberto is completely unnecessary in this story and by adding him in Millie’s place and changing Meryl’s character to accommodate this new comer, they effectively destroyed both of the main female characters from the original show. Wow, great job Orange.

I will say, I do think the animation looks better. About the only thing that’s good about it.

  17. Idk, for me Knives in the original feels like he came out of nowhere with really jarring change of tone. First half of the anime is goofy lighthearted, almost pg13 fun, and then BOOM, Knives comes in, people die, backsty happens, drama, and the ending. Like I'm watching entirely different anime.
Moving backsory in the beginning I think gonna help setup what's gonna happen later.
