Hello everyone,

Here’s my piano cover of the OVERLORD IV opening theme – “HOLLOW HUNGER” by OxT!

I borrowed a few ideas from classical music when writing this arrangement. One of them that I’ve used extensively is the descending chromatic motif from Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 (https://youtu.be/iQRhl5cnCto). I find that it suits the chromatic progression in the vocal line of this song quite well. See if you can spot it at 0:21, 1:29 and 2:19.

The insane left hand jumps after the chorus (1:13, 3:33) are also inspired by Liszt’s bravura style. Besides this, the one-bar “cadenza” at 1:26 is a transposition from the coda of the last movement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Overall, I think the contrasting dynamics and articulation between different sections is also quite reminiscence of classical music.

Of course, I have to mention the fact that I have re-written the bridge section (2:19). When I tried transcribing the original guitar solo for the piano, it didn’t sound good enough. Instead, I added a short cameo of the opening theme from OVERLORD’s first season (“Clattanoia” by OxT). Its chromatic progression fits in quite well with the rest of the arrangement.
