Groundbreaking series following the work of midwives across hospitals in the UK. This episode focuses on the busy delivery suite at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester. Lesley used to be a dental nurse but when she had a difficult delivery herself she was so inspired by the care she received that she retrained to become a midwife. She knows just how unpredictable and difficult the job can be. Lesley is looking after Neelam who has type 1 diabetes, pregnancy is putting increased strain on her already fragile kidneys which needs to be constantly monitored.

Midwife Gemma is looking after Helen who is having her fourth baby with husband Ben, she’s anxious about the birth having previously lost a baby 21 weeks into pregnancy. In tragic cases like this, bereavement midwives like Vicky and Emma can try and help couples to come to terms with their loss. Meanwhile, Liza is expecting twins but Lesley must keep a close eye on the situation as her pregnancy becomes increasingly complicated.

  3. Midwifery, was my chosen path in health. Knowledge pushed me to have my last baby before my 30's & out he popped 3days after my 28th. I never made it back to the access course. Hated maths & that was all i had to do then apply for uni.
Im 46now, what a waste of an opportunity I had. The words spoken by the midwife that ended this episode brought tears to my eyes because I threw it all away. Im now 12yrs diagnosed with MS so fate sealed, chapter ended, pick another book from the shelf Nikki. My brain function is too effected by the relapses over the years, if I was dumb before, im WAY DUMBER NOW!
However, within my written guilty conscience & doom, I did deliver my grandson for my daughter in her sitting room. Aided by my 3yr old granddaughter who was OVER THE MOON with delight.
Ive written this to process my emotions, kind of a therapy session. Anyway, throughly enjoyed this ep. Love for all in tbis ep & their futures ♥️🤗💙🤗

  4. Am I the only mama that cries during these EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear a baby cry it’s first cry😅

  5. There is no greater feeling of relief than hearing that first cry from your baby

  6. How Ridiculous & Self-absorbed that Asian Woman is. She was more Concerned about her Make-up than she was about her Babies.

  7. I wish they had of explained exactly what happened and what went wrong. Im so glad the twins were ok. 🙌

  9. These midwives shown are so beautiful and caring of other women becoming new mothers and mothers birthing again, a sacred duty to enable a sacred experience for mum and baby.

  10. The couple should not have terminated their pregnancy at 20 weeks. They were misadvised by their doctor. If that little girl breathed for an hour at only 20 weeks, she would have survived, if allowed to go to full term. Organs can catch up. She obviously already had a strong heart and lungs. They killed her, with the early delivery.
