Can’t begin to describe my disappointment when I saw both miniatures were two different flavours of dwarf. Team Knife-ear all day.
Gw makes a blood bowl fiery skeleton with chainsaw.
Me: hey look, a spectral sister of battle skeleton ghost.
The Admiral is cool. Too much fire on the skeleton. Not a fan of the heavy armor Votaan.
on the paint thing yes I agree and I wish that GW would do at least some color variant on each model.
just so that we get a feel for how it will look as some color choices can have some profund effect of ones opinium on a piece.
nice that the squat's gun look like it might work. also that skelie on fire makes me wonder about the history of chainsaw now. i mean, that must've been a horrendously expensive when it was made the first time. but then, when they invented barbed wire, they were marketing is "cheaper than dirt" so who knows.
Edit: What I found was truly grimdark.
Besides the weird neon lime color, a lot of the fire’s sculpting just looks more like frosting that was just squeezed out of a tube onto a cupcake.
I now want models and rules for Ataraxian Fur Dragons.
If I was gonna play Space Dwarves (and the only reason I'm not is cause I just can't afford to get into another army) I'd have to kitbash the Khradron and Votan!!!
The Admiral's helmet would not fit his nose. Compare the half-helmet picture with the full helmet: his nose overhangs the sculpted moustache more than the sculptednose on the helmet does
For that skeleton, it does not look like "fire" at all. It looks like it is enveloped in ectoplasmic mist or gas… but that is just my opinion.
I just started putting together an Ironclad for my wife yesterday. I am now required to get the figure holding the model ship 😊

That green fire should have been regular red yellow blue white flames. The flame sculpting just looks plain lazy.
Dunno if you noticed but Bryce 'The Slice' Cambuel is an homage to Bruce Campbell's character Ash in The Evil Dead. If you look at the art for the player at the bottom of the article his right hand is actually replaced by the chainsaw just like Ash, whereas the mini is holding a chainsaw.
As remnants of an old earth empire I imagine that the league of votann do know what there heraldry represents but they have never actually see any of them.
Then again as a clone species them selves perhaps the votann has access to a variety of animal dna to print for sustenance of pets?
What if.. They're not lions, but Manekin. And in addition to AI Ironkin, the Votann have committed heresy by genesplicing literal cat-girl-dwarfs.

Last years exclusive 40k inquisitor was great. This year I think is a bit meh. If I was to get one I think I'd get the kharadon overlord as something different, the votann don't really appeal. The blood bowl one looks good though, though perhaps too heavy on the sculpted fire.
BTW, the beard would be mutton chop I think if it was just the side burns, I think it had a different name with it being full.

Here's the meta question of the week: Did Torrk Lennsen there paint his own miniature Iron Clad to play an in-world version of Age of Sigmar?? Could you give that tiny model to say your Chapter Master Marneus Calgar model and imagine that he's still playing Age of Sigmar in the 41st millennia?
the fire thing is stupid
I was so happy when I saw the anniversary minis because I would rather walk to Mount Doom than deal with the pain in the butt drive to the nearest GW store. What's worse, I have several different ones I could drive too and ALL of them are so inconveniently located from where I live that it would take one heck of a model for me to make that trek.
I was excited for this years store anniversary, but it seems that excitement has come up a bit short…
None of the models really do it for me and the accessories are kinda meh to what do even some of these do? and our stores anniversary is near my birthday (usually) and I'd rather spend the 200 on something else for myself.
As for lions in 40k, there are the "hulking" black lions that the Brazen Minotaurs Chapter hunt barehanded on their home world of Taurine and wear their furs over their armour.

I love the anniversary models, I want them both for their respective armies. Haven't really started on my Kharadron Overlords army yet, I have finished the smallest ship and tried to paint one troop choice but still haven't found out what my color scheme should be. Have bought a lot of the models I want though, so I think I just need to decide and get working. Will not get these new models until late October though as then is when the only store in Norway have its anniversary. Luckily the store is just an hours drive away from where I live…
Don't like any of these models. It could be I just don't like the squats in general but I'm not keen on the fire on the skeleton figure either. I does seem to me that GW are a bit marmite like on models at the moment. There have been some great models over the last couple of years but there are some really quite awful ones as well. Loved the new chaos stuff, loved the avatar and new eldar stuff, hate the squats – I just don't get the appeal at all.
