  1. i take the priests words as indiscriminate love like thors wouldnt kill anyone it didnt matter, that was love. snow and the sun is love because it lands on everything without discrimination.

  2. The priest's meaning of 'love' is simply care for others just like how nature indiscriminate of how it has been used or use their surroundings just like how trees can be cut down to be logs or home for birds nest. The philosophical theme through out this season is to be content and accepting instead of war, pillaging, and revenge out o hatred and greed.

  3. The priest is basically saying that love is not selfish, love does not allow innocents to be killed (like Ragnar allowed the villagers to die) in service of their own loved ones. He’s saying death is love because you are giving everything you have back to the world and returning to God. A dark way of putting it but it’s not negative, he’s saying you need to love and protect everyone

  4. Canute's awakening always gives me chills, the king has finally awakened.

  5. The priest simply considers "unconditional love" as true love of God.
Which is impossible for humanity to attain.

  6. ive never watched a reaction that fully understands the priests perspective on love. how dissapointing

  7. Meaning about the prince and the priest conversation is not about the truth of this world or what is right or wrong,
It's about why the priest think that way and why the prince agree with him.

  8. "damn it! i wanted to see the rest of the fight between thorfinn and thorkell" – this line right there tells me u really only care about the action scenes. No wonder u didnt understand the priest and canutes conversation. The themes in this show are so powerful, its a shame people ignore them to this extent.

  9. Canute's realization is by far my favourite moment in the anime it's so damn clever and unique, love accoding to the bible is something that is equal to everything and everyone but that it's impossible for us and compared to that idea of love we only have preferences and that's why the priest says that we are only capable of discrimination, i have never seen anything like Canute's view of religion because he didn't lost faith he still believes in God but he HATES him, he hates god for giving humanity false hope on coming to paradise he hates him because god gives men impossible task that as humans we will never be able to achieve.

  10. I feel like you completely missed the point of the priest's argument about love. It's not about affection, which is what you have in mind, because that's beautifull, but brings people to cherrish a person over every other. Ragnar sacrificed dozens to ensure the prince safety. A father might kill to defend his sons. But going on like that, the world is in constant war, revenge and affection pushing toward violence. What the priest want is generalised love, complete acceptance of the other, no matter what. Is defending what's yours, while not putting your necessities over the other's. is not chosing to kill to protect someone, because no one is more important than someone else. There is no one it is ok to kill, even if it is to save someone else.

  11. 8:29 please note that getting hit in the leg is still considered a vital area due to the large amount of blood vessels and arteries in the legs. Not to mention that there is a high risk of infection, especially in the time period this story takes place in.

  12. I feel like the priest’s definition of love went over you guy’s heads. If you only thought just a bit about it then it would’ve made more sense. But i get it tho, it can be difficult for most people to understand. 😁

  13. The priest is saying true love is unconditional love. The snow, the sun, the dead body, etc. does not discriminate. The sun shines on everyone. People, on the other hand, discriminate about who they love. Ragnar loved Canute over the lives of 50 innocent villagers. We love our family and friends over the homeless person we walk by on the street.

The juxtaposition between Canute and Thorfinn is not accidental. What is a true warrior and what is love is the same question. Canute found the answer while Thorfinn did not. Thorfin is still in the cradle.

  14. The Bible is very very cruel? Ironclad? By Gods standards we’ll never know how to love indiscriminately. The most kind person is still a sinner, no matter how small the sin. Living by the book can be frustrating that way.

  15. The priest is basically saying that human love is not indiscriminate which is in his opinion "pure love" or the love that Christ/God showed, so the world, god's creation, loves indiscriminately, it treats everyone the same but humanity doesn't do this or, as the priest thinks, can't do this. That's why when he hears the story of Thors and how he behaved he was so shocked because Thors was really exercising that "pure love" as a human in what he calls being a "true warrior". It's a very interesting perspective on the world and love and how it relates to Christian thought.

  16. Episode 18 is the best in English dub also if you think about it hearing viking and the British speaking Japanese just doesn't sound right
