The problem is they didn't adapt the story, they adapted bits and pieces of it in a disconnected fashion with lots of plot and character development completely removed.
CGI in anime is always shit. It never looks good. I do not care. People (teenagers) are hyped about demon slayer and aot cgi backgrounds spinning the camera around the character 20 times in 3 seconds…. gimmicky animation
I have 0 Hype for the Memorial edition, I liked those few extra minuts but what I really want will never come.. (1v1 anime 2D adaptation of Berserk) We were lucky to have had Berserk 1997 which, for me, is the best adaptation to date (mainly musics and ost 10/10).
I really don’t like how 4C animate some of the characters, especially Guts. Guts in the movies does not look like manga Guts, I like to call him Nuts. Plus there’s the excessive cgi and pacing that puts me off, the 97 anime is the best current adaptation by far. Captures the essence of the golden age very well
I loved the movies, specially reguarding the superb directing treatment given to the most important scenes(like when Griffith invades Charlotes room, or the whole eclipse sequences). The memorial edition is for me a very good excuse to rewatch this amazing adaptation. But, when it comes to the whole debate about CGI, I just accepted that if we are gona have a new adaptation, it's gonna be a full CG anime again. Studio orange is the only studio managing to make great animation using the technique, but if Dorohedoro taught me something, is that CGI can be very enjoyable when you have good character models and proper cell shading with good outline work. And the campfire of dreams scene gave me just that. So, yeah, I'm quite optimistic about it.
People really need to stop shiting on the CGI of the movies, it's a better one that most CGI we have in the Anime world today. The bonfire of dreams was entirely CGI because it was an ADDED SCENE, they didn't have enough time (or maybe money) to put real quality 2d drawings, and it yet looks amazing. If you guys hope for a full 2d berserk anime, then just go and play video games or read books, just…. Please leave Anime world because it seems you guys can't understand something actually simple : a full 2d berserk, with all those creatures and all, will never exist, not because it's impossible, but because it would ask the animation studio in charge to be composed of people with Miura's talent, and it's impossible (in terms of time, money, material etc…) If the countdown means the upcoming of a new adaptation by 4C, I'll take it because, and that only is my opinion, they're the best studio to animate berserk. The sound design, the general quality, the scenery, the art, the musics, everything is good, and it looks to me like it's THE official berserk anime. Now if you guys don't like it, I can totally understand, but rejecting it because "there's CGI" is like asking for an artist to stop using paper to draw, it makes no sense. If we ever have a new anime (and nothing proves it), it will anyway never be worse than what Liden Films delivered six years ago. Just enjoy the Berserk universe damn.
For real, at this point, we need a Berserk fan/s rich enough to afford & make a deal of proper quality anime production project. Basically same thing with Vampire Hunter D. Although at least VHD has lengthier & better anime show with a very special anime movie.

honestly the most offensive thing about the movie trilogy is how much they either skipped or glossed over. Guts backstory and the queen even if the animation wasn't that great if they accurately captured the essence of the manga I would be happy.

Hopefully, it is an extra thing, like a movie or an anime.. bc, my reasoning behind it was that I thought they went very cheap on the memorial edition and the reason on why they even published it to begin with was because they already allocated all of the budget for a newer and bigger project.
I would prefer if they just added really good voice acting and music to the existing amazing manga artwork. If any animation was added on top of that I would want it just as flavor like how Bakemonogatari adds a few seconds of complex animation to its shows on the Blu-ray releases
I don't know much about the studio making the Berserk animes but it seems like money isn't really the only issue here. The studio has experience making CG animations, not hand drawn animations. To get a 2D Berserk anime, you'd just essentially have to fire the existing team and hire a new one. That would kind of suck for the animators. But it is also what I think it would take to get a better adaptation. And a lot more money and time as well of course.
Personally, I'm content with the manga, I don't need there to be an anime in the style I prefer, the team can make what they want with the means they have and I'll be fine with it 🙂

Wyald is not important and they shouldnt bother with him. My problem with the memorial is that the structure of the film is already bad and impossible to work around. We need more time with guts meeting the members of the band of the hawk in the beggining, and we need the full sex scene between casca and guts, with all the trauma involved. For that, we need gut's flashback, which i doubt they will be adding.
Berserk is about characters and these movies didnt understand that. The memorial edition doesnt either.

I honestly think studios should stop trying to adapt Berserk and we accept as fans that it is simply unadaptable with the current climate of the anime industry. A proper Berserk adaption would have to be one of the largest scoped animes ever made to do it justice and there just isn't a studio willing to do it and honestly probably justifiably so. If Berserk did have this amazing incredibly well animated and directed anime would it be profitable? The material and themes of Berserk don't lend themselves to wide spread appeal and perhaps studios are worried it simply wouldn't make money.
As a mexican, the best thing Memorial has done is finally giving us official latino spanish voices to Guts and Griffith. Fun Fact: Griffith's dub actor is the same as Kirito.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Berserk is unadaptable for its entirety. Certain arcs, such as Lost Children, Guts's childhood, Wyald, etc. cannot be edited down without diminishing the effect of the events surrounding them, to say nothing of how bad it is to outright remove them. With that said, the original anime is as good as an adaptation for television could ever hope to be, given the constraints. If I were to become an ultra, mega-millionare (or even more than that), I'd personally see to the production of an anime and give that shit away for free, with the unfiltered story fully intact. I'd do it all out of pocket. Everything. The planet, with all its anime-only simps, needs this story to reach them. Even if they're too much of a gaf to read the damn manga. I'm a merciful soul like that.

They are using fully CGI models but they are touching up the faces using 2d, that definitely means it's costing less money to create. At least the CGI is trying to emulate the 2d look so it's definitely an improvement from the 2016 anime.
I really hope if it is a new anime.. idk.. just, somebody PLEASE do a good job at it. no more relying on 3D models. they look terrible. they move like marionettes. and stop cutting crucial plot points. is it really too much to ask that they just make a regular ass anime of it? every other anime adaptation is usually fine. Can't we just get some regular ass animation?
whoever is running Berserk Film Partners has their fucking head up their ass. It's only by the grace of God and sheer luck and passion that 97 was as good as it was. God knows they didn't put money into it. They cut corners in all the right places (i.e. NOT the character stuff), so it works really well as a story. Except the ending. They really should have budgeted for a proper ending.
I was pretty excited for the memorial edition.. but I'm just kind of disappointed after seeing 6 episodes. And that makes my stomach drop for what the announcement might be. Unless they announce that some awesome studio is doing it like Bones or Madhouse or some shit, I just don't think it will be very good.
Somebody needs to fire those execs who run Berserk's TV/Film stuff.

The movies are basically like sped up OVAs recapping the story of the original series with a lot of stuff taken out and some smaller scenes added.
We need a wealthy person within the Berserk Fandom wholl cough up enough cash for a truly accurate adaptation.
