The sims summit teased a base game update for sims 4 babies- along with announcements like a tease for sims 5 and new expansion packs. But not all is as appears: babies will remain as objects as sims 4. Here’s the controversy, the guide to questions of how this will impact gameplay, cas, bb and bugs in sims 4.. there’s a lot to unpack and yet to learn about this new infant life stage.

Stay tuned for more sims 4 news, updates, reviews, and more. I post mods, cc, builds and let’s plays occasionally on my community tab. I also cover paralives news.. and have a paralives vs sims video coming up soon.

  1. PLEASE READ: This is my interpretation of what the gurus said and the blog post. You may interpret it differently if you wish. I will always do my best to update you if other information comes out!
Earlier posting time than usual since I'm late to this news. Hope everyone is having a good day ❤

  2. I already assumed this. Like others say; it would be weird if the baby could instantly move around. And it's probably impossible to remove the old baby code from the game without enormous consequences. And indeed, I fear new aging glitches and having to rebuild my savegame again, sigh. How can we ever progress when the savegame becomes unusable every time? I'm personally not interested in Sim babies at all but I can understand others are. I mainly play careers with adult Sims and recently got more into school as a career but babies can't do those things.

  3. Next pre teens maybe? because it will be weird to have infants without pre teens. I think if the community begged hard then we’ll get them but I feel that EA will do that on their own because again it’s weird to have only one of the between live stages and not the other one

  4. Imho, I believe the Sims team looked into updating babies, but for whatever reason, adding a new life stage worked best. I'm absolutely fine with the infant stage, and really looking forward to it. 💕 👍 😎

  5. I would have much preferred a preteen life stage but 🤷🏻‍♀️ the game will never make everyone happy

  6. I dont mind that its a different lifestage. Im hoping that they will add preteens in the future as well.

  7. Honestly, I'm not disappointed by this, I would hate for a baby immediately crawl after giving birth, it felt so off to me. However, I do think they need to update the newborn babies to give them more things to do, generics, and be able to change clothing they want, etc. I'm fine with this.

  8. I don’t see the issue myself. This was their way of making more playable babies. You have the stage in the bassinet which doesn’t have to be too long, then you get the infant stage where there (should be) more gameplay, which is what everybody wanted. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  9. I am actually happy about this because babies aren’t very active. Although I agree that the object should probably get an update I.e genetics fix and more skin tones. What I’m not happy about is I might have to break my no kit rule if the only content for infants comes in a kit.💀Hopefully Panda Sama comes in clutch for that life stage like she has for the birthing mod and toddlers.

  10. I've always been fine with the object babies, so this doesn't upset me personally. The only real thing I think the babies need is for them to fix the skin tone issue. I'm not a programmer, but I do believe the babies are at the very core of the game in a specific way and that "updating" them to be completely different could really break the game. We saw how much it broke the game just to change how weddings function, and that was just a party feature, not a life stage feature.

I think I'm more upset that they didn't announce a remaster of Sims 1 or Sims 2, which is probably a false hope anyway since I'm pretty sure they abandoned the licensing for those games.

  11. It scares me that I was right again. XD
I just hope it's not just a "Little Toddler", I still believe there should be one more stage of life after "Elder" to better represent those who are really old.

  12. I’m a little surprised, but I’m not upset about it — looking forward to Nooboos! People get so upset for no reason. Tho I do agree about more skin tones.

  13. People who are FINE with objectified babies in TS4, I wanna ask “Do you play the Sims 2?” If you do, Sim3 and 4 babies+toddlers are the ultimate letdown. TS2 babies and toddlers are super cute, adorable, awake love and affection in parents. And toddlers even make funny actions alone.

I loved to put camera on them and watch what they did and I giggled so hard. They talked to themself, thought the provocative thoughts, played with toilet water, crawled to explore, searched for their family etc. The true simmers love TS2 babies, toddlers and children! Period!

  14. While I’m neutral to babies still being coded as objects, infants being a new life stage does worry me.

Many “new and improved” things that are added into the game end up being half-assed or mostly unusable.

  15. Newborns literally can't do anything. It makes perfect sense to leave them as is for the first few days at which point, they'll become infants for a week to ten days before becoming a toddler. All of this makes perfect sense if you understand how a baby develops. A newborn does nothing but eat, sleep and dirty their diaper for at least the first month. Infants become toddlers once they're a year old.

  16. I will admit I don't care if babies stay as is… however I'd love to have a stroller so I can use it. Or if this new life stage allows me to walk around with it, maybe put it on a bike, just do something other than flibbin cry.

  17. It’s hard to not look at this as another regression from past games. It gives the vibe that instead of fixing bad game components they just make new stuff to say “look new content” to look good. It seems along the same vein as splitting the same content into more parts to make more. Hence why they’ve made the base game free because they know it’s not fun to play without EPs and that’s where they make their money.

  18. I'm not usually one to rag on the complainers here, but seriously!? They're ostensibly giving people what they want and people are STILL complaining.

  19. I was actually expecting the current object babies to remain objects while the infant life stage would be something to age up into. I think it’s fine because newborn babies don’t move around pretty much so the newborns can remain objects while infants are the stage where they begin to move around.

  20. Ts community likes to complain waaaaaaaaaay toooo much about everything, even the good things. You guys , ts4 is an excellent game, with stunning visuals . Bugs and all still love it

  21. im excited for this update. to have a massive change like the toddlers is a huge game changer. i took months off playing the game because it was the same thing over and over again but now i can't wait to re-load it again. i understand why they are keeping the object babies in the game because when a baby is freshly out of the womb they don't start crawling and are most likely to stay in bed for a couple months. i just hope we don't get any glitches or bugs to do with them and we get to customise them in create a sim. Well done sims team!

  22. It's fine! It's a free update! Babies/Infants not a big deal to me so this just seems like a plus- nothing to complain about.

  23. If they get the proper skin tone as their parents, I'm happy.

I remember the first time my pale af sims birthed a dark skinned baby.

I started to wonder if the mom was stepping out while I took the husband to his cop career lol.

  24. I'm not mad about this at all. I think it's pretty accurate. New borns don't do much, just eat and sleep. Then they become infants and gain small movements and such. There will always be 1,000 simmer sub-tweeting game gurus with complaints. I don't think anyone will ever enjoy this game. We're just gonna keep asking for more free stuff, and as a result, the game will be worse because they're going to focus on giving us more "stuff" to be "happy" but the game itself will remain broken.

  25. I mean they're newborn babies what do people expect to do with them??? It makes more sense to create a new life stage to do all they want with it. Plus it's probably hard to reprogram how babies are

  26. I can see the infant stage being just as annoying as the toddler stage. Why it is so difficult to feed the child without it constantly getting interrupted 😠

  27. I was never on the 'make babies not objects' train because real babies are frankly not that interesting either (so it tracks 😆) but I do like the suggestion to make them more customizable… it sounds like it shouldn't be so hard either, but seeing as my sims often have the wrong shade baby 8/10, maybe it is harder to code than we realize 😅

As a storyteller I don't mind a new lifestage, I just hope it's interactive and integrated well enough, and adds gameplay.

And afterwards please please please show the child stage love, there is so little to do with them gameplay wise.

  28. I don't super mind babies being objects – but if the infant stage comes stuff like change tables, I think it could be nice to be able to change babies on it too.

  29. Hey Erin, my partner is a developer (not on the sims) and he says looking at the game files for the sims, that it would not be possible to remove the current baby without breaking the saved games of users. It would only work if they took the object baby out of the game and all users start a new save file. That wouldn't be something that EA would be prepared to do, as with myself, many simmers have spent years working in their save files and there'd probably be a riot.
