Astro Boy or Tetsuwan Atomu (Mighty Atom) as he is known in his homeland, Japan, first appeared in 1952 in the Captain Atom Manga.
Distraught over the death of his son, Tobio’s, death, Dr. Tenma built a robot boy in his image. He soon realized the little android was no replacement.
