Following the premiere of the anime series, evidence pointing to a Live Action Film based on the manga surfaced when Japanese studio Toho registered the website Ginsaji-movie.com and the Obihiro Tourism and Convention Bureau posted a casting call for extras on a film project on Wednesday. According to the casting call, the film is shooting in summer 2013 in the Tokachi area of Hokkaido (where the manga’s story is set) in and around Obihiro City. Just like the manga, the film will be a “portrait of teens set in an agricultural high school.”
The film was officially announced at the Nikkan Sports and Sports Nippon newspapers on August 7, 2013. Confirmed members of the cast include Nakajima Kento playing Yugo Hachiken, Alice Hirose as Aki Mikage and Tomohiro Ichikawa as Ichiro Komaba. Keisuke Yoshida is directing the film with the production companies TBS and Wilco and the distributor Toho.
