新進気鋭のチェリストとして注目の河内ユイコ（Yuiko Kawauchi）と多岐に渡るジャンルで活躍中の作曲家/ピアニストの後藤望友(Miyu Goto)からなる女性デュオ、Retrospective(レトロスペクティヴ)。
「前衛的かつポップ」なオリジナル作品を創作し発表する活動を”A面”、「日本文化を世界に広く発信する」もう一つの活動を”B面”と位置づけ、日本の代表的なアニメソングをリメイクした楽曲を動画サイトにあげたところ、総合チャートで1位を記録。楽曲のメロディを大事にしつつ、独創的なアレンジ、そして緩急あるドラマチックな演奏が加わり、最初から最後まで聴き手を飽きさせない魅力は、世界各国のリスナーからの反響を受け、日本のアニメ文化の新しい発信となっています。
今作は、大人気フィギュアスケート・アニメ「ユーリ!!! on ICE」からのカヴァー＆マッシュアップ曲「Tribute to ユーリ!!! on ICE」の他、誰もが知るジャパニーズ・アニメの代表曲を大胆なアレンジと超絶テクニックで”再構築”した楽曲群に加え、ラヴェルの「ボレロ」を”Retrospective”流に解釈した新録曲も収録。技巧的だが難解ではないアプローチ、国境を越え、開かれた音楽としてのJ-POP、ジャンルを超え自由で柔軟な耳をもつ全世界のリスナーに共感を呼ぶ、実にユニークなアルバムが完成しました。
Cellist Yuiko Kawaguchi, who has gained much attention, and Miyu Goto, composer and pianist who has found success in various genres, have come together as a duo called Retrospective.
Their musical activities have 2 different “sides”: their “A side” features “avant-garde pop” elements in their original music, and their “B side” focuses on delivering Japanese culture to people overseas with their unique covers of popular Japanese anime songs, for which they created music videos and made it to No.1 on the combined chart on a video streaming site.
While they respect and maintain the melody of the original songs, they succeeded in arranging the anime songs in their own unique way with breathtaking performances, sometimes passionate and powerful, sometimes beautiful and emotional. Thus their unique music entertains and fascinates many fans all over the world, letting the world know more about Japanese anime culture.
Featuring “Tribute to Yuri!!! on ICE”, covers and mash ups of songs from the big hit figure skating animation “Yuri!!! on ICE”, their new album includes more covers of other famous Japanese anime songs newly arranged with their original style and outstanding technique, as well as a new recording of “Bolero” (originally composed by Maurice Ravel) amazingly performed by Retrospective with their unique interpretation of this piece. With their marvelous musical technique that is easy on the ears, Retrospective has now completed their new album filled a new type of unique, genre-cross-over J-pop music that will resonate with worldwide fans.
