Shinkai’s synopsis:
This is a storyboard prepared when starting production. The idea itself was in the summer of 1997. It was in early 1999 that I felt that I was beginning to gain the technical strength necessary for production, and this text has been elaborated several times since then, and when I made it into a storyboard, it was more detailed. Has been changed. In short, it’s just a text, but it describes the goals for the production.
“Voices of a Distant” is a personally produced full digital animation similar to “She and Her Cat”. In the early summer of 2000, I started production while working for a company, and during that time I was a little stagnant, but as I retired from the company in the early summer of 2001 and became free, I started to concentrate on production in earnest. I did. (Completed in January 2002).
“Voices of a Distant” is a story of a boy and a girl’s ultra-long-distance relationship divided into space and the ground with the motif of mobile mail (total length of the work is 25 minutes). The theme was to scoop up everyday emotions like “with her”, but in terms of visual expression, as a study of how much quality can be achieved with personally produced animation images by producing digitally. There was also a feeling of.
The script and video are produced by Shinkai, but the music is by Mr. Tenmon and the sound is by Mr. Manga Zoo, just like “She and …”. Although it is a small work that can be produced by an individual, I hope that it can be seen by as many people as possible.
The sound of “Voices of a Distant” has an original version (voice: Mika Shinohara, Makoto Shinkai) produced in the flow of independent production, and a voice actor version (voice: Sumi Mutoh, Chihiro Suzuki) recorded on the premise of DVD sales, etc. Are recorded in 5.1ch Dolby Digital Surround and Stereo Linear PCM, respectively.
